You may recall a new Death Note game was rated recently, with many pondering exactly how the manga masterpiece would be adapted. There were a handful of visual novels for the Nintendo DS, and many anticipated publisher Bandai Namco could be creating a new one. Instead, itās opted for a 10-player social deduction experience ā in other words, this is Among Us: Anime Edition.
āThe key to this game is the Death Note, for the human whose name is written in this note shall die,ā explains brand manager Duy Pham, rather dramatically. āBut beware, this deadly note lies hidden among you and the other players, setting the stage for a thrilling game of strategy and deception. Play as Kira and judge other players with the Death Note or play as L and gather clues to arrest the killer. Get ready to uncover the truth and outsmart your opponents to win.ā
Youāll need to pick from one of four roles at the start of each game: Kira, Kira Follower, L, or the Investigator. Youāll be split into two teams depending on your role, with one side tasked with eliminating L and the other tasked with arresting Kira. Much like in Among Us, youāll gather clues and complete tasks during the first phase of each game, then convene to discuss who is acting suspicious.
Thereās quite a lot going on here, and if youāre looking for a more detailed gameplay deep dive, we recommend reading through the PS Blog post which digs into in-depth detail. Perhaps the main things youāll want to know, however, is that the game will launch on PS5 and PS4 from 5th November ā and itāll be available day one as part of PS Plus Essential.
One other thing worth noting is thereāll be crossplay across all consoles and PC, so this should help to establish a relatively large player pool, which is obviously essential for an online game like this. This is oddly timed, I just started rewatching Death Note yesterday.
This game is not for me, but Death Note will always remain one of my favorites.
@shonenjump86 this was my exact same thought
I will try this out because Japanese games are usually genius and I really like Death Note. It's included in PS+, so a really low barrier to entry.
It is an interesting twist on the Among Us formula and Death Note definitely works. I don't have interest in playing it but hopefully it's fun for those that are interested.
This is actually a good fit for Death Note. At least its not another arena fighter.
@ATaco Uncover Kira by spamming X and deducing his FACE with your FISTS in this spectacular action-packed adaptation of DEATH NOTE
@ATaco my thoughts exactly.
Loved the films and the Anime but not for me.
I've never really played these type of games, do I actually have to talk to these people or is it a text/gesture type of thing?
Iām a bit too introverted for this type of game. My anxiety would be at peak ADHD if I attempted this. Good anime though.
Not the death note I was expecting.
Nice, releases on my Birthday AND Free through PS+ š Only thing is that it's an Online game š¤·āāļø I'll give it a shot anyway (have also been contemplating re-watching the Anime for the billionth time recently too, so good timing)
