According to Martin Griffiths, the Engine Programmer at No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games, the PS5 Pro “absolutely rocks”. In a post on X (or Twitter), he explained that he’s “been through all PlayStation iterations” and appears to have a very favourable impression of this one. And yes, No Man’s Sky is on the list of All PS5 Pro Enhanced Games.
We don’t yet know how No Man’s Sky will take advantage of the PS5 Pro, although we know Hello Games has been working with it for a little while as dataminers found some code pertaining to the supercharged system in an old update. We’d expect higher quality graphics settings at 60fps, which is the goal of Sony’s mid-gen refresh – although there may be a few surprises, too.
We should point out that the picture attached to the tweet is a screenshot from the existing version of the game, and not the PS5 Pro – despite what it may seem.
It’s worth noting No Man’s Sky also supports PSVR2, so it’s possible the virtual reality mode will be enhanced with PS5 Pro as well. Hello Games’ enormous sci-fi escapade has gone from strength to strength since it launched, so we’re excited at the prospect of further improvements on the PS5 Pro.

Sounds good, but bit of a random post from Griffiths... only the first sentence actually responds to the previous post and the screenshot. The rest just seems to be him lauding the PS5 Pro, apropos, apparently, of nothing.
I've never been on X/Twitter, is that normal?
Imagine how it has been a cutting edge graphics showcase from PS4 to the PS4 Pro /PSVR1-combo over to PS5 -PSVR2-combo and now the PS5 Pro/ PSVR2 combo.
They just improve that engine over and over following Sony's evolution of PS-consoles.
No Man's Sky universe is on another level imho. I love to lose myself into that world for hours at the time.
Wow this was already achievable on pc before and the 4090 will make the game look better than this as higher resolutions than 4k. This is just 4k60fps max settings that wasn't achievable on ps5 before.
@OthmaneAD and?
@Zeke68 have you tried NMS with PSVR2? Was it good?
@OthmaneAD Oh, "just" a 4090?
Like, my man, I'm not a fan of PS5 Pro is not great and it is pretty expensive, but you can't compare a sole graphics card that costs x2.5 times the cost of the entire system and say "well that does it better". Well duh.
@Tomato_Goose Yes I thought it was great with 1st PSVR2 patch, but a few months later they released a revamp of the entire PSVR2 ingameengine in a new patch (current version) and it looks so much better imo!!!
Edit: That said, I only played PSVR1 before so I can't compare it to any other VR-headset on the market.
Edit 2: And to answer your question, yes I pretty much only play the game on my PSVR2, have a few hundreds hours in it (since PSVR2 launched). So yes, I assume I think it's good in VR
@Pranwell Wrong about what though? He hasn't actually said anything beyond "it's better". This is near enough a non-statement. We do not even have a Pro screenshot.
And btw, the issue was never "is it better?" The issue is "is it $700 better?" And nothing I am seeing here proves it one way or another.
@Zeke68 nice to heat this, thanks for the answer! I've just ordered PSVR2 and was trying to figure out what games to try in the first place. I've spent decent amount of time in non-VR version of NMS and it looked / played great.
I mean, of course “it rocks”…it’s new tech! Guess what? He’ll be saying the PS6 rocks when it comes out, too.
@Tomato_Goose If you already own the game on Playstation you have no excuse not to check PSVR2 out for free!! I think you'll love it!
@Tomato_Goose And if you own GT7 you just MUST try that out in PSVR2 too!! Just saying.
Yeah, yeah everyone can make the biggest PC rig ever.
Show some games that actually use that rig to the last drop then. Sony's most impressive game is last gen. Scalpers can shove this useless hardware up their behinds
@StrickenBiged i wouldn't say its not normal, but it is smart. Twitter/X (and threads) just seems to be full of people trying to start arguments over every little thing
@LifeGirl caveat there is ‘to you’. Everyone has different levels of ‘worth’.
If it sells 10% of total lifetime ps5 sales I can imagine Sony would be happy enough.
People wanted options, Sony gave them the option
@Tomato_Goose I tried it and it was blurry as hell
@Bobtheking If so, you havent set up your gear correctly.
Wow, he must have it on a really uneven surface. Stability will be most people’s desire
@DrClayman I'm saying he can't say this is the best no man sky has ever looked without mentioning on consoles because higher levels of fidelity has been reached on pc
@OthmaneAD doesn’t say best ever?
@Pranwell
The DF article Pushsquare referenced yesterday includes a section where he is talking about the inability due to cost of doubling the GPU when making this gens Pro machine (as opposed to PS4 Pro from PS4 which did). He then goes on to state that despite this, the addition of machine learning / AI hardware this time has given an upgrade which gives "similar, if not outright superior results".
So its not just the odd developer that thinks its good.
It’s a crutch. Optimisation is dead.
To be fair. No one thinks it sucks. They just think it's too damn expensive. That being said. Can't wait to get him hands on one!
For the Payers.
I respect Hello Games immensely, but I always find these comments from devs weird. They make a multiplatform game. The game already does way more on PC than it can do on the Pro. There's nothing new the pro introduces it just does more than the previous console did, but still not as much as the game already does on PCs that are higher end. "For a console, it's really good" makes sense. A blanket statement that sounds like it introduces new capabilities to the game that didn't already exist on other platforms, no, that makes no sense. There's so much hyperbole around this thing already and I'm not sure why devs throw themselves into that, though Hello of course has a close history with Sony, I doubt that still applies currently.
@Bobtheking It was unusable blurry at launch. It was basically broken from Feb 2023-April 2023. Had a big improvement in May. They patched it multiple times, added foveated rendering, etc, it's now one of the sharpest games on the platform with draw distance for miles and miles. The Jun 2023 patch turned it into pure eye candy.
@Tomato_Goose NMS is, IMO, the PSVR2 system seller.
@Pranwell is it me or are people misunderstanding your comment entirely?
Huh, why should I listen to someone who actually makes games? All the real experts are surely the loudmouth-moaners-who-haven't-even-see-the-PS5-Pro-in-real-life on Twitter, who confidently tell me it is unnecessary, offers no real benefits and no one actually wants it. They're the ones whose views we need to listen to!
In fact, I'm going to cancel my preorder right now!
I think I know the meaning of that emotional post. It's about usable real time ray tracing.
From what was published so far, it seems that PS5 Pro allows to just turn on ray tracing for reflections, shadows and global illumination by lowering rendering resolution in comparison to base PS5. But then upscaling kicks in and produces very good final result.
I fully expect "ray tracing" or "path tracing" to be the major marketing point in next gen consoles. And that's a big deal. It has the potential to tremendously simplify the work of artists.
Also, mad respect to engine programmers at Hello games. Those guys made the impossible, possible, all on a penny budget.
I don't get the excitement. It's a better GPU and uscale tech, who cares? Using procedural generation is one thing versus hand drawn, SW BF3 and Haven Call of the King tried to achieve space travel/ground in more primitive ways to getting up there. No Man's Sky's current update with the visuals (besides the other ones since) are fine but hardly made me care about the game more but impressed many going OH MY it's like the trailers or oh it's visually interesting with a whole bunch of garbage on screen. Like I don't hate primitive worlds if the gameplay is fun.
More objects/visual details makes me want to play less, more plants, more dust/sandstorms or so on they can add to it but also make me want to play less, I can't see, it's a hindrance of objects or dust or other nonsense filters and things to get through worlds and I want to play your game not stare at all the garbage on screen. I can look at Pikmin 1 & 2 and go I don't hate the obvious grass textures. I play the later ones and go eh it looks fine but at the same time 4's gameplay was so bad I hated it in every new feature way they added because they didn't turn out fun to me.
I find it just as bad as real life these devs want, when others can say gameplay first, idiots go oh squeeze more visuals out of it what for you or for idiot customers with no artistic brain and just visual understanding then game tropes and good game design. Your impressing your brain with shiny colours or having logical gameplay design happen. If the programmers are going for that then get out of here.
I don't want real life or fancy garbage visual things in games. I want a game to PLAY no matter how primitive looking the worlds are it's why I play old games is mechanics and level design first not stupid visuals and nonsense, I want it to be FUN not an art gallery and boring people talking. I don't care about worlds like everyone else it seems i care about the techniques. I don't find visuals that are distracting or 'immersion increases' fun. I find it less immersive after playing games for years.
It's like UI design, a mess of small/large images and captions and other garbage on a news site or a more clean easy to read, understand and so on. May art asset flare besides just generic boxes modern design has I hate so much.
Wow so those that did Ray Tracing and Performance combo modes can do it now more. WOW. Like just don't care. You have quality and performance and combo at what 40FPS or something and now 60FPS because more offloaded onto the GPU or something or uscapling doing the work.
Part 2:
Like why would I care. The artstyles/objects on screen and upscaling and what not. Just make the games fun and the worlds filled with 'enough' not everything and the kitchen sink these programmers and designers/artists want. I as a newb programmer don't care for this in worlds, getting something to work I do more than how it looks, function over shiny things on screen or to impress audiences with no game design interest just whatever looks cool/shiny. I'm sorry but 'making fun experiences with the shininess sure' but shiny first and less impact pass. Substance.
There is a reason gameifying things is fun, it cuts the nonsense so why can't visual details be considered the same way not just gameplay?
I don't want realism or 'everything' I want enough balanced to other areas. People with more realism or we need more power and more of this in the work.
Well work with the limitations, you did for years, you keep begging for more. Just work with what you have or remove other garbage you don't need. Sick & tired of developers no matter the role always asking for so much when just make it better not go oh we couldn't do this and this. That's the whole point is to sacrifice things, it happens for a reason not because oh we can finally fit everything in those additional trees/shrubs. Change your render distances/fog, change the ray tracing, change the art style, change the detail of the objects, change other things and work with it. It's just pure laziness and constant wants when the game isn't getting better it's those who want the art to look better.
I want the game to be better not the art to be better. Sick and tired of devs with graphics and near realism and all this non-gameplay focused designed. Some of it is sure but enough to make a difference for the same worlds just more in the world to be immersive I was already immersed enough with the limitations because of the game design not the other visual garbage on screen or dust in the worlds and other realism or overexaggerated visuals and particle garbage on screen.
Make it have gameplay purpose only not visuals to satisfy some thing in their brains.
This is why I care about gameplay/movesets and more, impactful stuff not something that has no impact and is just wow it looks nice, normalises or looks worse and people move on/forget about it when a gameplay thing can stick with people and is more core to the experience.
For the price of the Pro model it should rock 😂
