There are some fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 who are absolutely irate the game is not getting any DLC expansions. Insomniac Games never explicitly announced any additional content for the game, but without getting into the weeds of stolen information, the big hack that impacted the developer did mention plans for post-release support. Those plans have obviously changed, as it’s since announced it’s moving on from the game.
We’ve seen some claims on social media that the sequel feels unfinished as a result, as there are plot threads teed up which will now no longer be resolved until the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 – or a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales-style spin-off, like the oft-touted Marvel’s Spider-Man: Venom.
To be honest, the reaction has surprised us somewhat. While the original Marvel’s Spider-Man did receive post-release DLC as part of the trilogy of City That Never Sleeps episodes, we didn’t rate them particularly highly here at Push Square, as we felt they did very little to meaningfully advance the story or established gameplay formula.
While we felt the core Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 experience was familiar, we never felt short-changed by the experience, and rated it a sturdy 8/10 as a result. Personally, with resources limited and development cycles bloated, we’d much rather Insomniac Games focused its attention on Marvel’s Wolverine and whatever’s next for Spider-Man et al.
But we’re curious how you feel about it. Do you think the developer should have made Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC? Are you frustrated by the fact it hasn’t? Let us know in the comments section below.
Should Marvel's Spider-Man 2 have received PS5 DLC? (1,071 votes)
- Yes, this is a huge missed opportunity
- Maybe, but it depends what was planned
- No, it's fine to move on to the next game
- I don't know

Why does it need a DLC? I finished the game and the story was complete. It was a perfect way to end Peter Parker with a great segue the next part of the story with Miles and the symbiote wars.
Some gamers really need to ***** chill sometimes.
I am more than happy for Spiderman 2 to miss out on DLC. I am a bit of a trophy hunter and like to get my games to 100% and I don’t really like when games get DLC that gets me back to a game. Don’t get me wrong, post release content is a good way to extract the longevity out of a title, but with the backlog of games I have building up and the fact I like to move onto new game after I have finished something, it’s good to hear a developer moving on to its next thing with some clarity!
What's better, Insomniac working on the next game (Wolverine) or having to pay extra for a game you already completed? Lol.
i called it a long time ago . spider-man 2 was mediocre anyway . one of the better spiderman games but that’s not saying much
the arkham games on the other hand are masterpieces
People (citation needed) on the internet furious? Nope, don’t believe it.
"Spider-Man 2 is one of the most disappointing games in recent history"
That person needs to play more games if they think that Spider-Man 2 is one of the most disappointing games in recent history
Spider-Man has already been oversaturated to me personally
Anyone "furious" that their insanely high-end AAA lavish, several-years-in-production New York City superhero simulator doesn't have more content cranked out for it in under a year really needs to acknowledge the definition of a First World Problem.
"To be honest, the reaction has surprised us somewhat."
A polite way of saying this reaction is silly?
Plans change in the creative process on a good day and after all of their plans were revealed by those scummy hackers (can we just start calling them thieves btw), there were always going to be changes.
Spider-Man 2 is one of the most disappointing games in recent history
90 metacritic rating, 8.8 user score and multiple game of the year awards and nominations say otherwise.
These are either some entitled salty gamers or just trolls.
I think the only real issue is that they waited so long to reveal this. People have been asking about DLC for almost a year and instead of telling people sorry we aren't going to do DLC for SM2 they ghosted the fans for like 9 months only to then go oh yeah nah we ain't doing that. It didn't help that a lot of people understandably found the base game quite disappointing. We know thanks to Tony himself that like 75% of Venom's screen time got cut and then there was the game constantly putting Peter down to prop up Miles and then followed by the ending left a sour taste in some fans mouths and they where probably hoping for some DLC to provide a little more
Unless it's made by CDPR, just move on 😛
I’d much rather get the rumoured Venom expandalone than any dlc. The industry keeps moaning about dev costs… well knock out expandalones using the same engine and assets. Most people I interact with would be far more keen on a separate game than dlc.
Because DLC worked out so well for the first game... It's okay to move on people. There other games to play you know.
@Keyblade-Dan yeah tbf to those disappointed or upset, this does feel like a last minute decision and when you consider some, albeit probably a very small amount, of resources went into a PC release that maybe could have been committed to DLC I can see why some might feel let down.
Also let's not pretend like DLC isn't fairly standard for this type of release. So if you know you aren't putting any out, probably a good idea to state that up front which they didn't... most likely because they had every intention of developing DLC but dropped it cause nah, we owe you nothing.
In short just communicate. You're not gonna please everyone but communicating at least shows some effort.
I should also get an X account and furiosly shout out what I don’t like about PS gaming. Maybe PushSquare will cite me.
I'm perfectly ok with this tbh. They can put all focus onto their other games and Spider-Man 2 is coming to PC at the end of January anyway so it's possible that played a role in them not wanting to make DLC too.
@Max_the_German Don't bother with Twitter/X you won't even be able to properly block people on there soon. You're better off joining Bluesky.
The simplest explanation I can think of for why they axed the DLC is that they wanted to use the resources elsewhere. They already spent over $300 million on Spider-Man 2. It makes sense they would want to move on to something cheaper to make (Venom?) or invest more into something creatively different (Wolverine).
Man, it's sad that these entitled "gamers" lack self-awareness and their moronic opinions are given attention.
Insomniac doesn't owe anyone Spider-Man 2 DLC.
It sucks being a gamer sometimes. Being bundled with people who complain about everything lol
Let insomniac cook. If we get a great Vebom and Wolverine game out of this we should be grateful
Wish they were moving on to go make Ratchet and Clank again.
I love R&C. The games were a huge part of me becoming a PS-based gamer, and when we get a year where the only PS first party game is a Marvel game like last year, that pushes me away. Sorry, but Spider-Man 2 is a 7/10 game at best. I won’t be getting another Marvel title from PS, no matter the hype.
There are several obvious reasons why DLC isn't coming.
1. This will sound harsh, but I think it HAS to. SONY's Playstation branch is a somewhat failing company with a near incredulous strategy of paying crap developers a ***** tonne of money for absolutely nothing in return (proof: see Haven and Concord. Concord is the biggest disaster in gaming history that just keeps getting bigger (every month, 700-1200 developers are getting their very high salaries in return for absolutely nothing. Same as Jade's crew of crooks and *****)). Just remember this when, in three years, all these Haven and Concord employees are going to be without jobs and they will bitch and moan about it. They will be among the last people in the world who are deserving of our sympathy.
2. Insomniac employees are literally carrying everyone else on their back, so they have to work on experiences that are short and expensive. This means no dlc, because sales numbers will tell you that the adoption rate is between 20-40 per cent for owners of the original game.
3. The dlc of the original Spiderman was cheap and very boring. The original game was not expanded, and for me at least I hate DLC that tacked on the main game as an afterthought. For it to work for me, it HAS to be integrated into the original game. Now, it sounds like the sequel, at least for some, sorely needed to expand upon the original story. The holes will be filled with new full-price entries.
has if any of the plot threads they set up would have been concluded in f**king dlc lmao. Those were set up for Spider-Man 3 and even though I liked the city never sleeps dlc more than most I’m happy they are moving on to Wolverine and Spider-Man 3 instead of wasting time on some dlc
@Papa_Emeritus I know its unheard of right? Love the ghost avatar by the way. I've only recently started listening to them but they are really good.
Complain if it gets DLC and complain if it doesn't. You can't win on the internet.
SM2 is one of the best games this generation, so of course its a shame its not getting DLC.
'Furious' seems a bit far though.... unless its aimed at the hackers.
If the game was way better than it actually was, I'd have cared. But it isn't and I don't care.
I'm still waiting for a Spider-Man game with better swinging physics and more intuitive wall running than SM2 PS2
@Enigk
It's almost as if the internet is full of people who have different opinions
I don't like DLCs
"There are some fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 who are absolutely irate the game is not getting any DLC expansions"
These people really need to get a life. Irate over a game? 😂😂. Bloody well pull yourselves together.
What I don't get is why the plot threads in the side quests need to be tied up before the sequel? If anything, these unfinished storylines make me more interested in the sequel, not story DLC
When I heard that SM2 wasn't getting any sort of story DLC, I wasn't upset since I didn't really like the ones in the first game. Though Silver Lining was the only one I kinda enjoyed thanks to Spidey and Silver Sable. I think it would've been better if Insomniac put certain stuff from Spider-Man 2 and put it in 3 if it does get announced at some point.
I don't understand the people defending this. They have just realized they can sell $50 DLC length games like Miles Morales instead of $20 DLC. This is absolutely a bad move for consumers. Screaming about it is weird too but defending a company is weird bootlicker behavior.
Sony release a complete game and people are furious....
Same people who probably post makes about how when they were younger games were conplete and you unlocked things by playing through the game...
As I posted on the last relevant article, this is fantastic news for trophy hunters. All too often devs will shoehorn in terrible trophies alongside new DLC content, sometimes based around game modes many of us have less than zero interest in. The Uncharted series springs to mind; I bought, played and loved the original for its single player story. I expected more of the same with Uc2, and I got it—but then they crammed in some multiplayer mode I didn’t want to bother with, but was forced to because of a slew of accompanying trophies (some of the most ill-conceived, poorly designed trophies ever to stain a Sony console, btw).
Trophy hunters want nice, neat, clean, concise lists that can be accomplished in a single playthrough so that we can move on to the next game. The last thing we want is to have to trudge through something we’ve already played and shelved just to get back to the ideal 100% trophy completion for that title.
Why can't a game be standalone without dlc?
Bunch of crybabies. Like seriously sad. Im not even sure if these are real opinions, or just some bad agents trying to discredit Insomniac. It just seems too wild of an opinion. I mean, the most disappointing game in recent history? Because its not getting DLC? Wow.
How about maybe a part 3 might resolve some of those so called unresolved plot threads? Damn, consumers nowadays have some highly unreasonable standards
I do hope the Venom game goes through though!
I really want them to move on and do something original, rather than move on to just another iteration of the formulaic Disney filtered marvel drivel.
Such a waste of talent to see them trapped in this greed driven marvel assembly line purgatory.
The DLC for the first game wasn't that good. I'd rather they concentrate on Wolverine and whatever other games they have in the works.
While no dlcs.i believe insomniac is focusing on wolverine right now.so it is what it is.word up son
So many entitled people. If they don’t want to make dlc they don’t have to. It’s that simple. Move on
Honestly it doesn't really need DLC. I know a lot of people are disappointed by that, which I understand, but I wouldn't say the game is "the most disappointing release."
I’m not disappointed in the lack of DLC but the main story and the game itself feels really cut short, and we know from the leak there’s indeed lots of cut content, when I replayed the game in NG+ focusing only on the story I noticed how badly it’s paced and some bits feel like they just stitched it together, that just didn’t happen on the first game nor even in Miles Morales which I’ve replayed both for 3+ times, I didn’t noticed it that much in my first playthrough since I was doing side content at the same time than advancing the main story.
It gives me the feeling that Insomniac are being rushed around, they got SM Remastered, Miles Morales, R&C Rift Apart, SM2, Venom and Wolverine all launched in around 6 years while many other studios haven’t been able to deliver ONE game for the PS5, but it’s clear they needed more time for SM2 and I hope they give them enough time for Venom and Wolverine, as they plan to release them a year between each other.
Absolutely love the game! But I never play DLC for any games I love. I skipped Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, both Horizon games, God of War, etc. I usually just move on to something else.
I do feel some are in ire because they've been hoping for so long, but I never expected it. The game was what it is, no promises made so none broken.
I enjoyed the game, and apart from a few minor issues don't really need it expanded upon. Yes, extras are always nice and there are elements left unanswered, but post launch DLC isn't required to finish the game. I'm glad it's getting a Pro enhancement though, finally I might get around to NG+...
I much prefer insomniac moving on from this to focus on other projects, a smaller Venom game should be cool and I have high hopes for Wolverine.
@Max_the_German Rampant racism and sexism is totally out of hand there it seems that there is no moderation there at all. That platform will blow itself up with how it goes.
It would be bigger news when nobody would be mad on the internet.
@NapoleonDynamite Just give them the finger, that'll do 😉
Some people really can't wait for the next piece of news to come around, so they can start complaining again...
Insomniac should do no DLC. SM2 already feels a bit... less... than expected for a sequel. It's fun but also a bit stale, too similar to the previous 2 games, SM1 and SM-MM.
It would certainly benefit from a few years break, and a fresh new direction.
For now it's best if they concentrate all of their efforts on Wolverine until it's out, and make it the best it can be.
Nowadays, i wish more single players games released in a complete state where i can play it from start to finish without the need to pay more for additional story.
But i guess some gamers, possibly they're Gen X, already embraced the idea that they must spend more money to get DLC stories and if they didn't get their DLC's they will complained like an entitled babies which is sad.
@QiaraIris I actually like the idea of a big AAA game NOT getting DLC for once. Just shows that someone actually made a fully finished product for once, updates aside.
@LowDefAl But how else are they supposed to gets clicks for articles?
@PuppetMaster Exactly! What I hate is when games are advertised now with DLC BEFORE they even come out. To me it just feels greedy and scummy. If all that is planned, just put it straight into the base game. It’s actually nice to have a full big budget game for once, even if it wasn’t exactly what I wanted story-wise.
@Savage_Joe Those were the days, that’s for sure.
@mariomaster96 tbf in order to be disappointing, it has to be something you're hyped for in the first place. So something like Concord or Suicide Squad really wouldn't qualify for most people. Not that I'm saying I agree with them or anything.
@Max_the_German Huge bummer that so many articles now quote random Twitter people. Also apparently Twitter is the number one source people use for news? Oof
Every week there's a story about entitled brat gamers that makes me ashamed to be gamer.
Review bombing, whining petulant babies
Just give me a Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart sequel already... I'll take a "Rivet & Kit" spin-off even.
While I like Spiderman well enough I couldn't give two Fs about Wolverine or really anything Marvel, especially at this point 🤷♂️ Could also bring back Resistance or create a New IP like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are seemingly doing 🤔
I don't really care. I thought the story of Spider-Man 2 was very lackluster. Kraven the Hunter was done dirty, Venom was too. The gameplay is superb, but the story was pretty bland compared to most other Spider-Man iterations. Finish Wolverine
@Bionic-Spencer Do you lose your Plat when dlc is launched? Honest question, not a trophy hunter myself.
@mariomaster96 He wanted attention, likes and shares. He got a mention on an article, he's winning (in a sense). People flame up their opinions to stand out and seems bold.
I bet they'll have a Miles Morales style game, perhaps a bit after Wolverine and might even have a link (since they're all Marvel). It's a longshot, but wanna bet this same guy will say they're so cool and amazing etc?
@QiaraIris Peter hasn't quit he's taking a break and considering who the big bads of the 3rd game are its clear Peter will be back as Spidey in the 3rd game.
Need more side missions with the deaf girl
People complain about DLC in that everything should be included in the game you purchase especially with the costs of the game. Now people complain about no DLC.
The City that never sleeps DLC was the weakest part of the OG Spider-man, better to avoid that. Also isn’t everyone’s always complaining there aren’t enough new Sony games? Do you want Insomniac to work on DLC for a year or a new game?
@Whately86 No. What it is that throws me is I play my games to the platinum, move on to another game and then I find having to come back when a DLC gets released has me relearning games. I want to keep my account as close to 100% as possible, so I’m compelled to go back. This usually happens on games I can’t wait to play. However with a big backlog, I have been playing games that all the DLCs have been released so once I am done with a game then I can move on to a new game without worrying that there will be an incomplete list down the line! 😅
@EfYI Haven is developing Fair Game$, which isn't out yet. Firewalk made Concord, which was indeed a massive swing and miss.
Lol... i dunno at which point expressing disappointment became "furious". I guess i am furious at the click baity title. 🤣
It must be nice to have so few problems in your life to be "furious" about not getting some Spider-Man DLC.
Sony must have decided they can make a ton more money with a full Venom spin-off than DLC.
The game is great and feature complete, DLC isn't necessary. That being said, given that we know where the DLC would've gone, it's disappointing. I'm sure Chameleon and Carnage's stories will continue on the eventual sequel, but something tells me we're not getting that spider-verse mashup, which is a shame.
They never said it was getting DLC, just another useless media article trying to make something out of a bunch of vocal crybabies, they’ll survive!
I am a bit sad because i wanted an excuse to replay the game and do the new content, I guess i'll replay anyway but not the same.
On the other hand, usually I preffer that studies does not invest time in dlcs and focus better in new games, so maybe it's really a win.
