There are some fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 who are absolutely irate the game is not getting any DLC expansions. Insomniac Games never explicitly announced any additional content for the game, but without getting into the weeds of stolen information, the big hack that impacted the developer did mention plans for post-release support. Those plans have obviously changed, as it’s since announced it’s moving on from the game.
We’ve seen some claims on social media that the sequel feels unfinished as a result, as there are plot threads teed up which will now no longer be resolved until the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 – or a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales-style spin-off, like the oft-touted Marvel’s Spider-Man: Venom.
To be honest, the reaction has surprised us somewhat. While the original Marvel’s Spider-Man did receive post-release DLC as part of the trilogy of City That Never Sleeps episodes, we didn’t rate them particularly highly here at Push Square, as we felt they did very little to meaningfully advance the story or established gameplay formula.
While we felt the core Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 experience was familiar, we never felt short-changed by the experience, and rated it a sturdy 8/10 as a result. Personally, with resources limited and development cycles bloated, we’d much rather Insomniac Games focused its attention on Marvel’s Wolverine and whatever’s next for Spider-Man et al.
