Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, in addition to being awesome, is a major hit, with publisher Focus Entertainment revealing more than 4.5 million genetically engineered super soldiers have heeded the call. That's a pretty impressive effort in just over a month and best of all; there's plenty more carnage to come, entirely for free.
In a surprisingly involved update, Focus revealed the happy news and outlined just a few of the features either enlisted or prospective Astartes can look forward to facing. A Lethal Difficulty is being added for those requiring further penance and new cooperative Operations. One will feature the colossal Hierophant Bio-Titan and a return to the swamps of Kadaku. Fans of the Dark Angels will be pleased to know that the sons of Lion El'Jonson will be next to receive their cosmetic due, and the Neo-Volkite Pistol is also being added to the Battle Barge's armoury.

To some publishers, 4.5 million doesn’t meet sales expectations.
Glad this one is celebrating the success of the game. I dabbled in the original game, but it didn’t click with me.
FOR THHEE EMPORAAAAHH!!! 😬
In an alternate and much better version of the multiverse, these numbers belong to Concord and Space Marine 2 gets scrapped
@Czar_Khastik lol. Almost all of the guys that play this game wouldn’t touch concord. Unless in that alternate universe concord was made by guys whom don’t embody today or an East Asian studio.
It’s a good game. There is always a demand for masculine games like this that represent brotherhood so to speak. Just as there will always be a demand for games that are cool with attractive female characters like the characters in Stellar blade. It’s really that simple. This game reminds me of Gears of war 1-3. Which were badass.
New content? Finally. All my Marines are at 25 and there's nothing to do. And that's a compliment to the game. Love it.
If this content is free, what is the season pass for? I bought it, such is my enjoyemnt of the game, but im not sure.
Its a really fun game and well done to all involved. For the emporer!
@Vaako007 It's just a game. Let's not start that nonsense with games now.
I'm really enjoying it as I love the Gears of War games.
I don't get many full price games at launch, but this was worth every penny in my opinion.
@LowDefAl it’s both. An almost throwback 3rd person balls to wall action game, but if you’re a Warhammer fan you’ll love the realisation of the setting.
Not a fan of Warhammer but glad of the success of this game!
I´m playing it right now and it´s badass...really hope that MS will bring Gears of War 1-3 collection on playstation one day, a lot of MS games have been rumoured in this matter, but for me personally just Gears 1-3 would be really the one I really want on ps
Removed - unconstructive
@LowDefAl I play it because it's a good game. I'm not into Warhammer, though I do love sci-fi.
I bought the game because its plays like a pre-internet game, in that it's not bloated with unnecessary systems and yank. It's straightforward, visceral gameplay, with almost tangible heft and weight, and an excellent sense of place. It's so well realised that I can appreciate, without knowing anything about it, that it is true to the lore and presenting it in spectacular fashion.
It's actually made me want to properly understand the history of the game's setting because it's a fascinating idea that humanity has evolved to become a ultra-religous, militaristic galactic empire spread across millions of planets, and the entire society is focussed on perpetual war.
Not into warhammer but really looking forward to playing this game sometime.
@LowDefAl I think that's sensible. It doesn't have a lot of content at the moment. I've spent 200 hours on it to level up all the marines, and that meant repeating 6 missions probably about 250 times, at least (I don't play the MP section of it. I much prefer the co-op)
And the servers are a little flakey. Get disconnected and you're thrown out the game and wasted all the time you spent. And it happens often enough to be a problem.
I found this game really overrated in my opinion....in as few words as possible I found it repetitive and boring plus I was expecting it to be a looker on my big oled but it really wasn't.....well they can't all be winners!
@ROTTIEMAN16 it's definelty repetetive, but to say it's not a looker is harsh. The game is pushing a lot of enemies on screen and still delivers epic vistas. I can appreciate that can be lost on someone who isn't familiar with the lore. From what I've read, there's a lot of details that fans can marvel at.
@riceNpea I found it a not great version of gears of war!the looks part is each to there own but I'd just played astrobot which is really bright and pops but I found this bland and nothing really stood out for me
@ROTTIEMAN16 I think the difference between the 2 games is one of scope. Astrobot can direct more resources to making the game 'pop', graphically speaking, and it fits the nature of the title to be bright and colourful. Space Marines, on the other hand, is necessity gritty with a muted colour pallette as per the source material. The devs chose to emphasis the scale of a galactic struggle against hordes of enemies against a backdrop of a ruined planet. It's the level of lore-rich detail in the backdrops alongside the sense of being in a huge conflict that is impressive about SM.
The interiors, I can appreciate, are more muted in scope so are less impactful, but I think if you're comparing it to GoW, which is fairer than to Astrobot, overall SM is still more accomplished in what its trying to do.
But like you said, we don't all have to agree.
4.5M is no joke, but according to Square the game did not perform well
Jokes aside, congrats to Saber and Focus Interactive for reaching that milestone.
SH2R, Metaphor, Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin, and now Space Marines 2 also sold well.
And a bit off topic but still about sales, RE4R just passed 8 million copies.
The success is deserved. The game is a banger and they did everything right with it.
@riceNpea I wasn't comparing them I was saying because I'd just played astrobot maybe that's why it all seemed very muted
@ROTTIEMAN16 ahhh....yes I can see that would be the case! ☺️
