The Wolf Among Us 2 PS5

Fans of Bigby Wolf will be glad to know that a murky report from the depths of Reddit (since deleted) has been refuted. Developer Telltale insists that the long-suffering The Wolf Among Us 2 is not in danger of being scrapped and that the game will be out when it's good and ready. Still, something is starting to feel off.

As Eurogamer chronicles, an alleged whistleblower managed to get the attention of the developers themselves, claiming that Telltale was at a "critical point where they might have no choice but to shelve [The Wolf Among Us 2]." They claimed that the game is in serious danger due to budget constraints, that "the studio has been struggling with funding for a while, and there are internal discussions about whether they can realistically continue development".

Telltale refuted the report, providing Eurogamer with the following statement: "As a rule, we don't comment on rumours and unsubstantiated Reddit threads. But development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues, and we're excited to share more about the game with Telltale fans and our community when the time is right."

We sift through this sort of thing for a living. Typically, we'd put the initial rumour straight in the "trust me, bro" pile. A couple of things give us pause, however. Telltale, in its original incarnation, did financially implode, unable to make the episodic narrative thing work. We've seen little success under new owners LCG Entertainment, and Telltale did decide to refute this minor Reddit story rather quickly.

In this new form, Telltale released Batman: Shadows Edition in 2019 and The Expanse (which we liked) in August of 2023, which probably did not do well financially, as the team suffered a round of layoffs shortly afterwards. Whatever is going on with The Wolf Among Us 2, we can't imagine Telltale is currently making bank or sitting on a lot of cash, as that is the total of its releases in recent years. We got some screenshots in April, but it's now late October, and we haven't had as much as a trailer. The project has already been delayed under LCG Entertainment, and we still don't have a release date. Considering all that, we would not be surprised if a cancellation announcement was forthcoming in the current industry climate, regardless of what the studio says.

What do you think? Will we get a release date for The Wolf Among Us 2 at some point, or is there perhaps something to these anonymous allegations? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
