Fans of Bigby Wolf will be glad to know that a murky report from the depths of Reddit (since deleted) has been refuted. Developer Telltale insists that the long-suffering The Wolf Among Us 2 is not in danger of being scrapped and that the game will be out when it's good and ready. Still, something is starting to feel off.
As Eurogamer chronicles, an alleged whistleblower managed to get the attention of the developers themselves, claiming that Telltale was at a "critical point where they might have no choice but to shelve [The Wolf Among Us 2]." They claimed that the game is in serious danger due to budget constraints, that "the studio has been struggling with funding for a while, and there are internal discussions about whether they can realistically continue development".
Telltale refuted the report, providing Eurogamer with the following statement: "As a rule, we don't comment on rumours and unsubstantiated Reddit threads. But development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues, and we're excited to share more about the game with Telltale fans and our community when the time is right."
We sift through this sort of thing for a living. Typically, we'd put the initial rumour straight in the "trust me, bro" pile. A couple of things give us pause, however. Telltale, in its original incarnation, did financially implode, unable to make the episodic narrative thing work. We've seen little success under new owners LCG Entertainment, and Telltale did decide to refute this minor Reddit story rather quickly.
In this new form, Telltale released Batman: Shadows Edition in 2019 and The Expanse (which we liked) in August of 2023, which probably did not do well financially, as the team suffered a round of layoffs shortly afterwards. Whatever is going on with The Wolf Among Us 2, we can't imagine Telltale is currently making bank or sitting on a lot of cash, as that is the total of its releases in recent years. We got some screenshots in April, but it's now late October, and we haven't had as much as a trailer. The project has already been delayed under LCG Entertainment, and we still don't have a release date. Considering all that, we would not be surprised if a cancellation announcement was forthcoming in the current industry climate, regardless of what the studio says.
What do you think? Will we get a release date for The Wolf Among Us 2 at some point, or is there perhaps something to these anonymous allegations? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

"Don't worry everyone, The Wolf Among Us 2 will be Among Us soon."
I love the first Wolf Among Us, but I've reached the point where I don't even want to hear about this project anymore until it gets a firm release date. Maybe Telltale would be in a better position if they hadn't wasted time and money on that Expanse game very few people wanted and strictly focused on this instead.
I thought this game has been cancelled years ago?
iirc, they announced the game back at TGA 2019 right? That's like 5 years ago.
At this rate, i think it's best to forget this game exist. I mean, i love the 1st game and would love to play the sequel. But i don't think Telltale can finish and deliver the game with the quality similar to the 1st game.
The first game was great! It ran rough on Vita, but I am looking forward to the sequel! I hope the wait pays off.
I agree with @RBMango , they should have released the game before The Expanse, not years after. I’m 100% sure this will be a hit. I have dozen of non-gaming friends who would buy it day one as they loved the first episode (which they played during Covid).
Strangely it’s a title that reached beyond the gaming barrier, and LCG doesn’t seem to understand how lucky they are to own the IP.
And I’m surprised to see they are encountering funding problems. Are Warner and DC Comics doing nothing about it ? The game is a derivative from a Vertigo comic series, surely DC has to know its existence. And the second game could boost sales for Fables collected editions, so it really doesn’t make sense to me that DC is not making sure is gets over the line.
James Gunn, if you ear us, do something about it.
I loved the first one and would love a sequel, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.
I'm really intrigued by this game, I wasn't a huge fan of telltale games back then, even though I love point and click, I found myself being bored by their style, so never got a chance to play wolf amongst us.
It would of been better if they had remastered the first game to help fund a sequel.
Considering the fact many people now probably haven't played the first game and it's stuck on ps3 if my memory is correct.
Definetly not cancelled but not in development either
The best Telltale game was The Walking Dead and its following parts were not so good.
