Sophie Turner, best known for her work as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is reportedly taking strides towards playing the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider TV series from Amazon Prime. Deadline reports the two parties are "in negotiations" to hash out a deal that would see Turner star as the famous dual pistol-wielding explorer, a move that would see her bring to life a script written by Phoebe-Waller Bridge.
Very few other details concerning the project have been made public, with a release date not yet set. At the time of the official announcement back in May, Bridge said: "Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats 'n all." Tomb Raider has also just been adapted into an anime series from Netflix, which we said "does a good job of moving the character’s story arc forward".
While the role of Sansa Stark is what Sophie Turner is most famous for, the actor has also played Jean Grey in two X-Men films and starred in various TV shows across multiple roles, many of which as the lead. For her work in Game of Thrones, she's won awards as the Best Global Actress, Best UK TV Actress, and Best Supporting Actress in years past.
Do you think Sophie Turner is a good pick for the role of Lara Croft? Let us know in the comments below.

Good fit tbh. I think she has charisma
Good call in all honesty
Edit: For those who are saying she can't actor, clearly haven't watched Joan, do yourself a favour and watch it 👍
Good call - hopefully she'll be more of the sassy Lara rather than the whinging one.
Don't care for this choice to be honest. For Lara personally I would've picked Daisy Ridley
Terrible casting, if true...
I would rather see Peter Dinklage as Lara Croft than Sophie Turner. Without a doubt, the weakest actor from Game of Thrones.
I hope she gets back the ott posh English accent
Meh, I don't see it but that's just me. I imagine more of a Naomi Scott type when I picture live action Lara. Never liked Jolie in the role, thought Vikander was better suited.
I would rather have Camilla Luddington. A gorgeous woman, actress, and an English woman as well.
And did a great job voicing Lara to boot.
With this casting choice, at least she will have her knockers...
That's a terrible choice tbf
Come on. Be honest with me now: no one here has ever imagined this woman as Lara Croft. Not the 90s fans, not the 10s fans, not the film fans; no one.
Anyone else smell that? Yep. It's the whiff of subverting our expectations. Because that always works out well.
Perfect. Extremely talented and stunningly beautiful actress.
@LifeGirl I never imagined anyone as Lara Croft 😅 That’s such a specific thought to have.
Good way for Turner to work out all of her divorce anger. An angry Lara is a good Lara. 👍
Angelina Jolie is still the best live act Lara Croft imho. Although, i'm probably in the minority, i quite enjoyed Alicia Vikander performance as Lara.
For Sophie, i feel like she's not fit as Lara. But again, i'm not gonna completely write her off until i see the movie...
This is awful casting, not sure what glue some people in the comments are sniffing 😂😂
terrible casting for me, always thought she was a shocking actress, bad in GoT and woeful in the xmen flicks.
I can't say I see it. Her acting isn't anything to write home about, nor does she strike me as being especially physical. For the purists, she's lacking two other important qualifications.
@Keyblade-Dan I like Sophie. But not for this. Daisy Ridley resembles the character more. Darker features.
Not keen on Sophie Turner, personally. I think she was solid in GoT, but I've never really thought she distinguished herself in other roles.
Should have just made Bella Ramsey Lara.
@AhmadSumadi Agreed, Rey Palpatine's faults were no fault of her actress. She has the looks and the athleticism to play the modern version of Lara.
Jolie was the perfect original Lara pick, the modern equivalent imo would be Gal Gadot.
@AhmadSumadi She does Daisy has the look and I think she's a really good actress and she's charasitic too she would've been perfect
@PuppetMaster I also thought Vikander did a good job as Survivor-trilogy Lara. Certainly put a lot into the role.
That said, I miss old Lara. Not everything has to be serious. Given the decline of the Indiana Jones franchise, I dare say there's room for a more playful, adventure focused film.
@Dimey I don't know man. In GoT she was given one direction from S1-6 which was be sad and abused. Then thanks to extremely poor writing from S6-8 it was "Boss B*tch".
X-men from Apocalypse - Dark Phoenix, everyone was awful lets be honest. She isn't a bad actress, just was in some pretty big middling movies.
Why when Hayley Atwell exists and is already playing Lara in the animated show.
Amongst other things, she's not really got the "assets" for it...
Get Lily James! She's also being doing her own stunt work on Cliffhanger remake. Ideal.
@LifeGirl You’re conveniently forgetting that Gal Gadot can’t act.
I would rather have casted Daisy Edgar-Jones or Hailey Atwell, but some people are judging Sophie way too early and writing her off prematurely, I still remember how forum users on the internet reacted when Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman, same way fans reacted when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker, fans aren’t always right, so I’ll happily give her a chance here, especially seeing as the series is being headed by the marvellous Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Ah, the comments section. You don't disappoint.
"Great, yay!"
"S***, boo!"
🙄
I remember that her acting combined with the character combined with the adaptation made it so I just hated Sansa (TV series), then the new X-Man happened and same thing happened (I didn't even see it because of the casting choice).
However, seeing it again (GoT) changed my attitude towards her acting completely. Maybe the only time that a revision made me do a 180 in opinion.
@DonJorginho That's your opinion. Mine is that she can.
Her acting was more akin to solid oak that action
Not my first choice but she was great in the recent Joan she done and i did like her as Sansa.
She was very good in Joan and in GoT in my opinion.
Whether this role fits her I don’t know, but she may excel at it.
I feel the woman who played the female terminator in dark fate would be a good fit!
I don't think I've seen her do enough different roles to say whether this could be good or bad but would not pre-judge.
I just think the IP is well known enough that why not try and discover some new talented young actress to fit the role rather than finding a 'famous' person who might work.
If I were pick from known actresses, I think Kaya Scodelario or Sophie Cookson could be interesting choices.
Oh god she is not a good actor and would def not make a good Croft
Ohhh that’s not good.
She was never a very strong actress and she’d have to bulk up an awful lot to carry this. I’d personally rather somebody more muscular, Lara Croft runs and jumps enough to make her look more like one of the Gladiators than a model.
Shame I had my hopes up for Katie price
Oh god no. She’s so wooden. She always looks miserable.
After what she did to Xmen, I don't know.
"Sophie Turner, best known for her work as poor 2D renditions of what should have been engaging, exciting characters"
People can't honestly think she would be a good fit.
You have seen her on game of thrones and on X-men dark phoenix.
Did she exude sex-appeal to you? Cause she just came off as awkward to me.
This couldn't be any more of a miscast.
They love making terrible Tomb Raider movies. When will they learn they don't work. Put the money into good games instead.
People are brutal if you get caught in a hatred loop you are screwed as a company. No idea if she will be good i really liked the last Tombraider movie. Th people really hated that one too somehow even my older dad had a blast watching it with me.
@PuppetMaster Jolie is the perfect cast for the PS1 version of Lara Croft, Alicia Vikander was a good fit for the latest version of Lara Croft i think she really sold it to me. And who knows maybe this casting choice will be its own great thing atleast it's not that latest Resident Evil nightmare that you have to be reminded that you are watching a Resident Evil movie.
Terrible choice imo, they should find someone who looks like Lara Croft, or pick someone else
@Weez Yeah it's weird that nowadays we didn't get many fun-lighthearted adventure movies. For me, Uncharted live act movie is pretty enjoyable to watch especially the set pieces despite i don't completely buy Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. I kinda hope in the sequel they make the story and set pieces more loose or not a copy from the game as well make Tom do more funny quips like Nathan.
@Flaming_Kaiser I think Vikander deserve a second chance but with this news i guess they already decided a new actor for Lara.
And talk about RE last live act movie, Imho they did some interesting things with the story. But man, they miscast plenty of characters especially Leon and Wesker. Then combining RE 1 + 2 in one movie is just a bad idea. At this rate, we'll probably never get a solid live act movie adaptation for RE outside fans film like The Keeper's Diary which is excellent.

@PuppetMaster Leon was so miscast they wanted to make Luis Serra RE4 or Carlos from the RE3 remake and mixed them up. 😐
Wesker yeah let's just forget that Sony totally dropped the ball there for me Jill was a bad choice too the only thing they had in common was the name. They could have said it was Sheva and it would have been more acceptable.
I don't like that main characters have to be totally changed. If you are going for that then just make a new movie with new original characters. Dont diversity just to tick of some boxes and im not saying woke because that word lost all it's power because it's used for everything now.
Don't change the characters completely and only keep the names Raccoon City was done so terribly. And the Series on Netflix the only reason you would know it's Resident Evil was because they brought it up during the series it was horrible.
Not a good pick. I don't see her being tough like the character and the wooden acting in GoT wasn't that great and neither was she in Phoenix.
Yeah seems about what they would pick for a Lesbian Lara. Another talentless hack who can't act or deliver.
