Today's the big day, with the PS5 Pro making its way into the hands of those willing to shell out for Sony's pricey mid-gen upgrade. While the main reason to pick one up remains the robust, muscular graphical gains the system provides, there is another: PS5 Pro owners can exclusively enjoy a fancy animated boot screen and background image for the Welcome Hub, as YouTuber Shannon Grixti demonstrates in the above video (thanks, PSLS).
Between testing the games already enhanced for PS5 Pro, we repeatedly return to the Welcome Hub page to stare at the pulsing microchip, lulled by the comforting system music, at times approaching a trance-like state. This thing did cost a lot of money; was it worth it? Who can say, but at least we have the Welcome Hub, our new digital happy place.

Did you manage to secure a PS5 Pro? Do you find yourself unable to enjoy the labours of the architect Mark Cerny, having lost whole hours (again) staring at the Welcome Hub page? Let us know in the comments section below.

No offense guys but you’re getting ridiculous with the Pro, not even with the OG PS5 you wanted to generate such a fuss when this ain’t it.
Wasn't sold on the PS5 Pro until I saw this awesome animated background, it must be worth $700!
Should probably be enjoying all thems graphics if you've got the Pro instead of watching the home screen. But then, I really liked the Wii's home menu/music, so I get it... I guess.
I'm already waxing poetic to the wall about the smooth sounds eminating from my new console. I agree- this is truly a killer device. CINEMA
It is definitely a boot screen like no other.
@IOI it just came out its a big deal
I'm still playing on ps4 and I'd say the anniversary theme, ffvii theme and undertale theme are pretty hypnotic. Does ps5 have themes? Genuine question.
Just a PS3 theme from 2010
@IOI The machine just got out so yes it's a big deal.
But you don't need to click this if you don't like PS5Pro or don't have any interest about it.
I will just stick to Eve and her knockers on my standard PS5 for now.
Just how much is Sony paying you per PS5 Pro article?? Haha.
The title and such of this article is a joke, right? It has to be a joke...
Assuming this article is not a joke, something is off about pushsquare these days. From calling people who didn't like Concord as haters and giving it 7/10 to this article.
@IntrepidWombat Push Square being paid to fully cover a newly released PlayStation console!? sellouts!! If they don't cover the Switch 2 like this then we will know they sold out 😤
There have been some great themes over the years. I loved my Aqua from Kingdom Hearts background on my ps4 and the Paul George background that came with the Nike shoe collaboration. Set up my ps5 pro today and almost didn’t notice this cool animated background and all the other background options when you customize that page. I really like the battery charging meter window.
£700 for a boot screen seems steep.
@IOI the PS5 came out and was announced nearly 5+ years ago. Had big hype. Every time there is a mid life cycle product that is updated there will be coverage. It’s the same for other industries. I don’t see people getting so mad about their favorite phone brand releasing products quite often which they want people to update 8 months later.
This has to be a troll article.
Oh 😮
I was against the pro, but this changes everything, an animated boot screen? Why didn't Cerny say this sooner? Not since the Xbox One have we had the console bliss of animated boot screens. And every UEFI ever. Sony take my money!
@crashcontrol that's £800 if you want the full feature set
Really your writing articles on boot screen, this better be a troll article, in the line of the running joke that you haven't stopped yakking incessantly about the pro for about a solid week
How much you been paid to push the pro around...🤦♂️
@Vaako007 maybe it's because the articles are so heavily slanted it's obvious
Why so many articles when there is very little hype around for the pro at all. For the PS5 it makes a little more sense but the last few days have been borderline psychotic with the hyperbole
Okaaaay….now PUSHSQUARE saying that just a background is worth buying the PRO 🤣🤣🤣
Very sorry for off topic but Sony confirmed from their financial report that Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies for 9 weeks since release
https://www.gematsu.com/2024/11/astro-bot-sales-top-1-5-million
Good news 👏
@Shad361 Hey, you want that official numbers for Astro Bot right? There. I hope now you satisfied.
This is like a Babylon Bee or Onion headline.
They did this for clicks and views right? To troll the community. To incite violence in the comments. All publicity is good publicity etc. Right?
They’re not becoming the tabloids of the gaming world are they?
I have so many questions.
And I think I fell for their trap…
The PS3 had lots of dynamic themes you could have gotten from the ps store. I'm sure more satisfying than this.
That's the same boot screen the PS5 has always had.
That’s the only reason why I got one yesterday!
It's a cool theme and I've kept it for my welcome screen. the OG Destiny 1 theme complete with original music is my all time favourite and still in place on my PS4 Pro!
Very happy with my purchase, I hope they do a white Switch 2 to go next to it!
@IOI I agree, the bias has been unreal lately. I can only imagine those top down internal meetings they had to encourage this.
People, you are on a Playstation dedicated website and you are surprised to see a lot of news and articles about the just released ps5 pro? You’ve got to be ***** me
As for this article, its pretty funny. Dont take everything you read literally!
It is nice.
(Forget the naysayers, keep the articles coming)
@IOI Fully agree. The amount of “this game is also PS5 Pro enhanced” articles is getting silly now. What’s next? An article about the inside of the box it came in?
Love it . As soon as a saw it it was on my Home Screen 👊
Are some of you mental? The site is called PushSquare, it's PlayStation-centric by definition. A new console is out, of course PS is going to write lots of articles about it. How is that unexpected or annoying? Why do you even come here if something like that bothers you? Weird.
The animated screen is cool, and what's best is that means there'll be more.
Could probably sleep to that 🤔
@Mr_B021 There was an article on how the slim and proi boxes are almost identical.
To me the problem isn't reporting, it's the obvious pushing of
a product. This site isn't meant to make sales, it's meant to talk about Playstation stuff.
You can talk about something without actively trying to forcibly push it. It stands out because it' so artificial. That's the problem.
PS5 UI still sucks compared to PS3/4.
Personally, I'd be more impressed if they ported the Virtual Earth or the whooshing and swirling PS2 theme...
What about this is a „boot screen“..? I‘m not a gaming expert with a website dedicated to playstation but I would guess this is a „home tab wallpaper“
@mac_da_man I‘m following some apple-dedicated websites too. not a single one has like 564378 articles per day saying „WOW! the new M4 mini has THIS new wallpaper!“ or „App XYZ was just updated for the new M4 Mini!“. This IS getting ridicolous at this point now. I could easily skip those articles but you habe to scroll a LOOOOOOOONG way to see content that has not the word „pro“ in it. They could easily rename the website to „PushPro“
It's a big deal because Sony told us it is
OMG I must go and spend 700 quid now on this upgrade. Lol 😆 🤣
@Cerny The difference there is that Apple releases a LOT of new hardware; and each OS has new wallpapers, so its not a rare or unique event; where as the console manufactures do not do this kind of thing nearly as often, so its notable when they do.
And for what its worth, there used to be a lot of discussion about new Mac OS version wallpapers. If there isn't anymore, its probably because it has become boring and routine.
With that said, I am not a fan of this wallpaper, its too colorful and busy, it feels like clutter.
@WizzNL Right now i see news about
All these non-PS5Pro news are in the first page. So, if you claim "there's not much to click" then i'm questioning if your eyes are working properly or you're too lazy to scroll down and just wants to complaint about PS5Pro.
Just waiting for the article that tells us all how good the PS5 Pro smells.
Seriously guys, find something else to write about.
@Mr_B021 https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/11/ps5-pro-unboxings-now-online-same-box-basically
@thedevilsjester Apple releases about 10 new devices per year. If you add up all the news articles about these 10 products, there are still much less than in a week here for the Pro.
@WizzNL „But at which point theres too many articles about the Pro?“
I think you can tell when the point has come. Little hint: If 80% make fun of it in the comments and think that Sony bought this site.
@WizzNL "Im not the only 1 complaining or getting tired about all these articles"
You and some people are 'getting tired' for clicking a news thread and complaining about a plastic box that you don't have any interest? Lol you Gen Z are really sad.
"Do you really need an article about the package being the same as the PS5 Slim?"
I don't need it but i'm sure somebody wants to know about it. If you don't need it then don't click it. It's not that hard.
@Cerny But those 10 new devices are less different year over year than the PS5 to PS5 Pro. I agree that there are way too many PS5 Pro articles; but comparing a mid generation refresh (the second one Sony has ever done) to a company that releases minor incremental changes in a yearly cadence is unfair at best.
It must be an image of an empty wallet and buyer regret
It's not April 1st. Say sike.
@PuppetMaster Sure - we can all just read all the other articles which aren’t about tiny details about ps5 pro upgrades.
OH WAIT … THERE AREN’T ANY
Personally I’d really like to know about which exact plastic has been used for the upper casing of the ps5 pro. Gotta be worth an article surely!
I'm starting to avoid reading stuff on this website.
Sony console is my main gaming hardware, I love Playstation franchises and all... but the way this page is trying to promote the Pro feels unprofessional, fanboy-ish and makes me question the promotional money influx it gets from Sony.
Please, try to be more neutral and direct on your news or comments about this console. It is looking amateur and a sellout.
@Totheteeth You needs to check your eyes to the doctor.
Putting aside the issue of how many articles there are about the Pro, the biased, hyperbolic way in which you're trying to push the hardware is seriously disgusting. Is Push Square committed at all to presenting information independently from how it might benefit Sony? I'm really starting to doubt it these days.
Booted up my pro the first time and didnt even realize the background was unique. Didnt realize anything actually since i really cant tell a difference with it operationally outside of hogwarts
Dear God. Some people can't help but be negative. This is an article written as a joke to attract more traffic and people fail to realize that they totally fell for it. I swear, they're so easy to mess with that they irony is completely lost on them.
ITT - lots of dorks who don't understand satire.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@naruball Thank god some people can still see the obvious!
To be fair, it is rather nice. I did remove and shrink some of the widgets so I could see it better
Got my Pro and I love it. Just wish it was the 30th Anniversary Edition.
@crashcontrol as someonewho has got it, it totally is
@twitchtvpat all that glitters isnt gold
The day before my PS5 Pro arrived I sold my original PS5 console at a local video game store, and having watched them test my PS5 console I can assure you that's the exact same boot screen the original PS5 has.
@evasdf nah you guys are just being crazy, like i said the ps5 pro just came out , its their job to cover this stuff. obviously bringing clicks/views to the site is part of their job. this pays their bills. it feels like people think they do this just for fun or something.
Hey. Probably not news worthy. But since today the shadow overlay over the (non-animated) pictures got a lot stronger. Really noticeable on my custom backgrounds (screenshots from games).
I liked it more before. It's too much now. Only with the bright spot being in the right side center.
This thing is truly for kings! What a boot screen!!!
@MaelysLeFleau sounds like you accidentally sold the Pro and kept the original
@gipsojo Fortunately not, the background the article mentioned is indeed unique to the PS5 Pro but both have the same boot screen.
