Ever since the PS5 released, fans had been pondering whether a PS5 Pro would follow. We didn’t find out officially until 10th September, when the system was announced alongside its unprecedented $700/£700 price point. Reaction has largely been mixed since then.
While the reviews have largely been positive, and tech experts Digital Foundry say the system actually offers a larger leap than the PS4 Pro did in 2016, many have been unconvinced. Some feel the base PS5 has not reached its full potential yet, while others believe the emphasis on small details like ray tracing and resolution are too small to matter.
The PS5 Pro introduces three major improvements on the original console: a larger GPU for more graphical features, advanced ray tracing for better reflections, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (or PSSR) for AI-based upscaling.
The latter technology is perhaps the most interesting inclusion of all, as it will likely form the foundation of the PS6 as well. The upscaler works to resolve clean image quality from imperfect sources, allowing developers to spend more computational resources on other aspects of their games.
As of publication, almost 100 games have been officially enhanced for the PS5 Pro, with non-patched titles benefitting from a ~35% boost in performance. Older, unpatched PS4 games also see some improvements, thanks to a system-wide upscaling toggle.
Moving forward, all games will be designed to support the PS5 Pro, and Sony is hoping that the system will blend the best of both Performance and Quality graphical options, providing best-in-class visuals at smooth frame rates. It will, ultimately, fall on developers how they want to support the device, though.
We’ve received multiple systems here at Push Square Towers today and will have a ton more coverage over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you’ll find loads of other PS5 Pro coverage all around the site.
Did you also buy a PS5 Pro today? Has it been delivered yet, or are you waiting anxiously by the door? Let us know if you upgraded to the most powerful console ever in the comments section below.

Got mine about an hour ago, much slicker machine for size & looks and you can feel the weight difference (not that you will be carrying it around🤣)just an all round better finish. Can't get my data to transfer though but no biggie, about to start up Alan Wake 2 for the first time, can't wait!!
@Mostik Glad to hear those positive things about the build quality. Excited to hear everyone's impressions!
I am indeed anxiously waiting by the door! I have to go out towards the end of my delivery window, so I'm hoping I don't miss it!
Honestly I like the design of this, followed by the Slim, base PS5 should've looked like these 2...why? The strip in the middle makes all the difference. Base PS5 is just too plain. If you're going to have a flat bland surface, there should be some sort of line across or something - like the PS4. Just the art side of me observing.
Staring out my window waiting for the postie to come, any minute now….
I haven't ordered one.
I might just colour on some black stripes down the side of my base model to make it look like a Pro
Hell no I don't have that kind of money lying around 😅
Mine is here and the data is transferring...
It is smaller than I thought it would be.
Also, I should be at work.... shhhh, don't tell anyone.
Waiting on delivery, a lot of the negative comments are from those who lack knowledge about technology, just moaning about the price
@Medic_alert Are you transferring over the network with Lan cables?
Enjoy your new hardware guys and gals, always fun getting new tech. 🎮
I thought it looked a bit tacky in the DF video unboxing. But in the flesh (plastic) it is actually really quite nicely made. And it is as light as a feather, which just seems so weird considering the base PS5 can throw your back out if you even look at it the wrong way 😅
Hopefully be able to get some games on it tonight to try out 😁
Mines on the way, just a couple of stops. Guaranteed I'll be in the middle of some meeting when it arrives... I ordered an Odessey G9 OLED as well to complement the Gigabyte M32U that I currently use for my PC and PS5. I'm going to give the PS5 Pro sole use of the M32U when I get it all set up. Though I might need a bigger desk... It's getting a little crowded (3 laptops, 1 desktop, 2 monitors and my PS5)
@Mostik yes. Only have 13 minutes to go.
Should get it done in my "lunch break"
Booooo...
Kidding ^__^
For myself I don't see a reason to spent 800 Euros, but congrats to those that ordered one!
Enjoy!
Mine is at home and I’m at work damn you liiiiiiife
@Mikey856 i think id have to fake a migraine or something 🤣
Mine was delivered at 10:35am by DPD I am setting it up later today.
My PS5 Pro should arrive any day now and I'm excited to play some games I've had sitting in my backlog for a while waiting for that day. Top of my list is Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth!
I was fully expecting the PS5 Pro to be bigger than my original PS5, but it's actually smaller. Nice!
Mine is here, got the disc drive and SSD installed and those little feet are actually way more stable than the stand of the base model when Horizontal.
Now just installing games but have had a quick go of Resident Evil 2's RT mode which locked to 60fps and The Last of Us 2 which looks razor sharp
Wow! Living up to my username today, DPD dropped my Pro off at 815am and have just popped on to say I'm very very impressed.
Worth every penny (to me) and yes, I'll be buying a PS6 too whenever that appears.
Gaming is good today, now back to Dragon's Dogma 2 (which is sooooo much better now!)
Have fun everyone
I see no reason to buy one. The PS5 has yet to even slightly live up to its full potential - and now Sony wants me to buy its discless PS6 test bed for 800? A device which seemingly has no exclusive games and is just a graphics amp for the last decade of games?
I found this insulting a couple of months back and I still find it insulting now.
Mines waiting for me at home right now. Just hope there’s not cat litter in the box instead. 🤞🤞🤣🤣🤣🤣
To actually have a bigger overall upgrade I'm upgrading the TV from LED 60hz 2020 model to 2024 OLED 120hz VRR supporting model alongside the PS5 Pro itself. Can't wait!
UPS says today between Noon and 4:30PM. I gotta leave work a bit early not to miss it.
'PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution' is the key feature, it is Sony's DLSS or FSR. And in the case of DLSS especially, AI up scaling has been proven to be massively effective at boosting graphics whilst not requiring a building with a supercomputer in it. It seems to be the solution to the problem as consumer GPU's have a limit of power and thermals and space, and price although Nvidia cards get silly.
I may have to take a look at the review vids of the new Pro.
My pickup is not confirmed yet and even though I'm at the office for another 2.5h anyway, I'm kinda going crazy here ;]
@mrmartinrohr Wow! Very exciting day for you!
@LifeGirl Its devs as much as Sony, these days they've grown to become lazy and rely too much on power and VRR to properly optimise their games. Sadly. So if you want best graphics and performance on PS, the devs won't help you, you'll need a Pro.
Mine already arrived, now I just have to go through work!
First game I want to play is do the plat trophy on The Last of Us Part 1!
Mine just arrived and i'm about to do the data transfer.
Still waiting for mines to arrive. Debating what to try out first. Some games seem to have issues on the pro like alan wake 2, dragon dogma 2, and veilguard. Which were games I was really looking forward to on it. Maybe I'll start that 3rd playthrough of rebirth I've been itching to do. And stellar blade is apparently amazing on it. Can't wait.
We barely started the PS5 era with the PS4 lurking in the background. Maybe with a new iteration we can finally leave the 11 year old wedge behind.
Good luck getting data transfer to work because it doesn't.
Anyone else clean their room really good while waiting or are you normal?
My order status magically got changed the minute I asked support about it
This is the 2nd time this happened in this specific store, too
What a coincidence!
ITS HEREEEEE
Best Buy says my preorder is ready for pickup! Too bad they don’t open for another couple hours. (US east coast)
The most expensive console ever and without disk drive.
@Splat Always, it’s called nesting. With any new piece of tech I always prepare and thoroughly clean its new home.
@DonJorginho Wow! What a haul! Have fun!
Royal mail emailed me yesterday saying delivery today. Checking the tracking it's still sitting in England. So probably tomorrow or Saturday before I get mine. 🙁
@mrmartinrohr OLED is the best! You're going to love it!
@get2sammyb Thanks bud, also got the stand and loads more discs but couldn’t fit it all on frame, now to set this baby up! 🍻💙
@mrmartinrohr What TV did you go with, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m tempted by the Pro, but given the age of my current TV I don’t think I would get the most out of it.
Sony loves their pointless remasters so much they even did it to the console.
I'm all set up and ready for when my kids go to sleep lol. It's a very sleek machine, feels abit more refined than my launch model.
Looking forward to playing silent hill on this thing, enjoy your new toy everyone who's bought it!
Size and weight massive difference had the launch Ps5. Disc Drive easy to install and just doing my saves from The Cloud. Silent hill 2 installing now
Mine arrived a few hours ago - just in the process of transferring games from my external hard drive to the new 4tb ssd I fitted (so glad the plate came of easier than the base PS5 😮💨) and then I can get started on downloading the games I’ve purchased recently but didn’t download - thankfully I have decent internet speed and I’m off work tomorrow so I should be able to actually get some gaming done then 🤣
@Member_the_game Can recommend electricians tape. Go faster stripes all the way
@DonJorginho Have a ton of fun!
@DonJorginho you have excellent taste in games. Enjoy.
@Papa_Emeritus Appreciate you pal, the backlog is growing more with everyday 😭
Congrats to those who got one, for us who decided to stick with the regular… we all win together by just being Team PlayStation! (:
@Amnesiac https://www.lg.com/eg_en/tv-soundbars/oled/oled65b46la/
Most reviews view the LG B4 line of OLED TVs as the best bang for your buck. Also, I really like WebOS and the magic remote controller that goes with LG TVs.
@danzoEX Definitely man, whatever resolution/frame rate you play on, we all still get to experience these gems with many more yet to come! 🍻💙
@DonJorginho
That gave me Poltergeist vibes.
@JohntheRaptor worked fine for me....
Arrived, on it and love it.
The definitive quality gaming console.
@Mikey856
Where you live, I can pop round and look after it for you 🤣
Got mine great console no complaints from me.
@JohntheRaptor Mine must have worked. I just got a PS app notification that says "Data transfer from PS5. Transfer completed." as I eat fish and chips in town.
@Loamy FF7 Rebirth most likely.
Got mine and kinda feel as if it’s been almost under-sold on how good an upgrade this is. Had my base PS5 since launch too, but the Pro really is next level. Also traded in a bunch of things so managed to get it for £300, which, at that price, is a no brainer.
May cop some heat for this but I’m currently playing through Veilguard and am super hooked on it. But the upgrade on the Pro is incredible. Excited to now finish Burning Shores and pick up Lords of the Fallen again on this console. Just waiting for it all to download!
I'm still sticking with my Slim, but I'm happy for everyone who got and enjoys the Pro.👍
@Orochilocka I think the same, glad you are loving it as much as me. Like someone else on here I also bought myself a new Sony OLED few months ago to replace my existing set so I can benefit from 120hz and VRR. Feel very fortunate.
So far it's Dragon's Dogma 2 that has impressed me most as it was so awful on my base PS5 and I loved the first game so much. Now, even with ray tracing on it looks great and holds 60fps. Anyone who has that, DO go back and see for yourself the difference is huge!
Can't wait to try some other stuff over next few days.
I want a job that pays whatever @DonJorginho gets.
@S1ayeR74
It's true. Devs want their games to run like ass. /s
@HappyGamerGirl so happy to hear this as I bounced off DD2 hard. I’ve got it redownloading now to test on the new machine. I didn’t get a new TV for it; but have a Bravia that supports 120hz. Next upgrade will be an OLED panel though!
Can’t wait to try Stellar Blade as well. I think if you have the money, there is a clear difference between the Pro and base. Very happy. Keen to hear any other games that you’ve been surprised by too!
Not enough on offer to even consider upgrading, if I want better graphics I'll use my gaming pc which obliterates the pro
I find surprising that this new console is not bundled with a new first-party flagship game.
I didn't get a Pro in the mail but a new PC case and some new parts in anticipation of me building a new PC on Friday.
Look, it's not a Pro but it's still new tech for me lmao.
Anyways, hope everyone enjoys the Pro consoles they receive.
@OldGamer999 I’m very close to Alton towers that’s all your getting 😂😂
Most powerful console ever! Yea right there are no leaps and bounds with this machine, ps4 pro introduced hdr and 4k upscaling which made a bit of a difference, but this so called most powerful console ever is another step for playstation to recuperate losses they have made and make false claims, there is no way this machine will do 120fps in 4k, playing last of us 2 had stuttering issues day one.
@symmetrian Did I say that? No, if you had an ounce of a clue you'd realise how I'm right. The OG PS5 and Series X have tons of performance left on the table, because devs don't optimise their games. Instead they rely on VRR to uplift them. The same will be true you this new Pro model however due to its much more powerful hardware, it'll give a boost to games. Devs will 'enhance' games but not push the console hardware.
Mine showed up a coupla hours ago. Unboxed it and plugged it in, fired it up and my TV decided to have a hissy fit and not display owt, after rebooting that cranky bugger I'm still waiting for my data to transfer (no games, they're on the SSD, which we'll worry about later).
Frustratingly I have gigabit LAN yet it's been at it for over an hour and a half. And jeez did the two consoles not wanna okay nice. You'd a thought it should be a simple process..!
I'm impressed with how much lighter and shallow it is though, it doesn't look quite so imposing sat underneath my TV between my PS3 and PS4.
All I gotta do now is find a frigging disc drive. 🤬
The most powerful... until the next one. 🙃
Welcome to the e-penis measuring contest, folks.
Congratulations to everyone getting theirs today! I have to wait until the 21st for the 30th edition Pro to get here… so I’ll try to be patient until then! Definitely holding off on a couple new titles just to start them on the Pro.
where did you all get your pro from. sadly i preordered mine with amazon uk. Still says delivery by 10pm tomorrow (friday). Not even dispatched yet.
So it's arrived and I'm setting up. Downer is that it isn't transferring anything from my NVMe in the OG PS5, only from the internal drive.
Does anyone know if I can just plug my old nvme in and copy everything from that to the internal drive in the pro?
All set up and rolling here. Data transfer was smooth and surprisingly quick and my 2tb SSD was installed and works with no issues.
One thing of note - the new SSD cover from the pro will not fit the OG models. As I use the Sabrent PS5 replacement cover/heatsink, I moved this onto the pro with no issues, but could not put the pro cover on the OG PS5. I had anticipated this and had another Sabrent heatsink on hand so I've put that on the OG unit to sell it.
@cuttlefishjones Yes mate - your old SSD can plug straight in and all the games can be played fine as long as you are the same account. If you dont wish to keep it in the pro, you could always copy the games to the internal ssd, but who deosnt want 4TB of storage eh? 😊
decent guide on this very site: https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/how-to-transfer-data-from-ps5-to-ps5-pro
Got mine this morning! If I didn't have a loan client coming in today I'd have taken the day off of work lol.
@DragonSlayer1759 Thats why I didnt order from Amazon, they were only delivering on Friday onwards.
I got two today. One from Sony Direct, one from Argos. Both shipped with DPD so they both arrived at the same time..
@Titntin Thanks for the reply. I've bought a new 4TB for the Pro, my OG has a 2TB in it. So I'll just do the manual transfer.
@DragonSlayer1759 Ordered my from Sony Direct.
@Titntin
I never had issues with amazon before. God knows when they are going to dispatch it. I wont be able to relax until that happens.
They improved the SSD speed a bit and it has Wifi 7. You should add that to the article.
Currently working from home, waiting for the FedEx guy to drop it off. Lol.
@DragonSlayer1759 Fingers crossed for you mate.
@EVIL-C
Or you know, reality, where technology endlessly improves.
@symmetrian Hence my original point, advertising the most powerful of something is the mootest of moot points.
@EVIL-C until the ps6 in just 3 years lol
The box never mattered, it was always the content.
They have not even come close to justifying a new console release this generation.
This is for the iPhone generation.
@Pepsiman_100 Hence why I'm waiting! 🧐 😉
@Fishnpeas That's the mentality now, fast everything. PS5 hasn't even hit its full base potential. We're so wasteful.
@DonJorginho wow congrats man. I can understand the excitement feeling when the thing you are excited for are now arrived.
@Orochilocka You're ok you can still benefit from 40fps modes at least, and yes get an OLED when you can!
Apart from DD2, quick go's on No Man's Sky and F1 24. Both impressive, F1 looks very real with the lighting now. Sony knew what they were doing here - so glad I got a Pro rather than spend the next 3/4 years 'waiting for PS6' with my face pressed up against a metaphorical window looking inside at the goodies!
To everybody who got their ps5 pros and are enjoying it fair play to you all and I hope you all have fun. To those still waiting I hope it isn't too much longer 👍. To those miserable nay sayers I hope you all get a massive lump of coal this Xmas you miserable b'stards...
@amatmulisha thanks man, unbelievably excited, just building some Lego while I install millions of games haha
@DragonSlayer1759 Argos. It wasn't the best experience though. They keep you completely in the dark as to what to expect. No updates, nothing. Then yesterday I got a text with a tracking number and DPD delivered it at 12.30.
@S1ayeR74
Couldn’t hear you over the noise of your conspiracy theory, sorry.
@Northern_munkey Love your posts mate, yiu often make me laugh out loud. That one sounded particularly Northern 🤣
@Titntin thankyou 👍
Removed - disrespecting others
@Northern_munkey
Lol
Got mine in the mail today! It's a great day to be a gamer!
trump and ps5 pro a great day my friends a great day
I picked mine up this morning. Had time to attach the disc drive and install my SSD. Made sure it all worked okay and then I had to leave for work. Looking forward to messing around with it tonight or tomorrow morning.
@Loamy that's the first one I'm testing tonight!
As someone who has a base PS5 for just exclusives I’ve still got Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok all to finish and I’d love to play all those games on the PS5 Pro seeing as I have a top spec 4K 120hz VRR TV. Problem is even if I traded in my base PS5 for a Pro I’d still need a disc drive, with some of the games being on disc, so in total I’d be looking at paying £500. I think most would agree to just stick with base PS5 at that price point.
Why do I have to scroll all way to bottom to read new posts, can't you just put them at top?
I wanted to do the data transfer ideally… 9 hours 😂
@Mikey856
have I been whoosed, took me about 2 mins.
@Russwho Not to a massive extent on a screen that size but obviously if you're playing a game with smoother frame rates or whatever, all of that will be present on the PS Portal. Same with any ray tracing or whatever.
You've just got to remember, on a screen that size, you're probably not going to see an enormous amount of difference outside of performance really.
@Dragon83 It's precisely because we know about technology that we're critising the cost LMAO. Doesn't bring anything substantially new to the scene despite the rip off price.
@Russwho yeah I’d also like to know this 👍
@Pleiades doubt it a ddr6 nvme costs 300 + graphics card costs 300 minimum. Not including the motherboard /ram . If anything sony are selling it at a loss. It actually does being a lot of new things. Upscaling games to true 4k unlike the fake 4k thats on the ps4 pro and ps5. Along with a lot more games running at 60fps.
Finally delivered, set up and played Spiderman 2 on my LG G4 in both my PS5 and new PS5 Pro. There is definitely some visual improvement, they managed to make a great looking game look even better. It isn’t quite the wow factor I got playing One X for the first time on a 4K OLED in 2017 but the upgrade is there and worth it for me.
Just got it setup. I’ve been playing Veilguard this week on my base model and launching it on here I completely understand when people say it seems like the picture came into focus. Instantly pleased with it.
@get2sammyb hey Pushsquare team, there’s a whole bunch of us extremely disappointed with the Pro due to the coil whine noise being very loud when playing in game. Found this Reddit thread where someone in the comments has recorded the noise https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5pro/s/kaiv881TqO did this happen in your review? If not, there’s a lot of people with hit or miss machines and it’s something worth flagging for the community. I’ll be returning my console in the morning as the noise can be heard over my TV.
Removed my 4T ssd from my pa5 slim this morning and factory reset my console. PS5 Pro arrived around 1:30pm from Direct. Installed the ssd into the Pro. Transferred the stand from my slim to the pro. And all the games are on there ready to play. Easy and kind of fun to do.
@Dragon83 I suppose for a plug n play console it's a decent price. But there's more value and utility from a proper pc. It just depends what you're looking for. Benchmarks have the Pro falling just beneath the RX 6800. That's a four year old card, and not overly impressive for a gaming computer. You could easily drop $300-500 more than the Pro and get a respectable pc. Also, rest assured that Sony is most definitely not selling this at a loss and is cutting corners somewhere
The BIG THREE.... shame lots of great first party games for PS5 wasn't one of them. That would have been pro enough for me. PS5 hasn't been horrible...but I think we can all agree that third party (and some second party exclusives) have held up this gen so far.
PS5 Pro - isn't the solution to the frustration of gamers... when you've not really showed off even the base PS5's full potential.
@Orochilocka ah.... people looooove nostalgia. Think of this as the PS4-jet-engine remaster. Seriously - hope you have some luck getting it replaced. From memory... Sony don't generally consider coil-whine as a replacement trigger.
@Anguspuss dude... how to bring down the vibe... (for those not celebrating Nov 5 in the States)
@Northern_munkey .... at least it didn't cost USD700... it was pure unadulterated amateur coal. Coarse and raw... brimming with un-fulfilled promise, and a devil-may-cry (yet un-Pro-uplift) savoir faire.
A New Era of PS4 Ports Begins.
Got mine yesterday for 270 Euros with the Trade-ins in GameStop Germany. I tried Dragon Age The Veilguard and The Crew Motorfest and I noticed the difference immediately. I was surprised that the Crew Motorfest ditched the Fidelity/ Performance modes completely and only have one Graphics mode on Pro.
@HappyGamerGirl Curious to hear more on Dragon's Dogma 2 performance on Pro as I'm tempted to buy and play it as soon as I'm done with Dragon Age: The Veilguard
@DonJorginho Love the pic. A lot of great games in there! Enjoy bud
@LikelySatan you know... in case it hasn't been said before... the name makes a person. Portents of further PS4 ports puts you in a whole new level of Dante's <H##l> ....Look over there... ## = "el" .... consider it a Sony version of Wordle... when your character tells you the solution to the problem before you even had a chance to think about it.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare 🤣
@8bitOG so... let's be real... you jumping into a console forum telling people that consoles aren't the most up-to-date computing power is not making you look good. They are "consoles"... they offer good value for money, and a good lounge-room-experience without (generally) the hassles. People need to stop comparing the two... I left PC gaming because I just decided "fidelity" wasn't as enjoyable as relaxation (for me). PC's will always be better - but MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE - AND A LOT MORE HASSLE. Maybe they will eventually be as care-free... but I suspect not.... because of diverse components.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare if you want to live in a box, be my guest. Not comparing a console to a pc at this point is folly, since the two are so close. My point is to inform and point out that the price difference between the two in negligible at best with the introduction of the Pro. Not to mention the lack of games to go with this console that will be obsolete in 3-5 years. I'm also unsure of the hassle you speak of. Not being informed makes you look worse, imo
Edit: I was also responding to a guy who's previous comment was regarding "people not understanding technology" or something like that.
@8bitOG dude... take a walk... chill... and if you come back with the "there's NO DIFFERENCE between a CONOSLE and a PC" vibe... that's ok. We'll chat further. Do you actually play console?.... if so why? If not... why comment on a console website? It's ok to be a PC player (Edit - or questioning the value)- there's many advantages to being a PC gamer - there also definite down-sides. Having done both for many MANY decades... I don't begrudge you wanting to be a PC player. But if you're a console player - thinking it's the same... hmmm.... I can add a few thoughts. Trying to compare the two is like trying to compare to a walk in the park, with doing tread-mill in a gym. They're the same walking motion - and going to a gym may get you burning more calories... but it isn't the same experience. Just chill; and let's talk.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare the keyboard warrior who just responded to 5 or so people is trying to placate me? lol. Yes, I own all the toys. I've been playing since the NES. I use my PS5 almost daily. Me clearly stating benchmarks and price point is an effort to inform people on the fence about the Pro. Because it's kinda a rip off. Honestly, your tone suggests you would rather be condenseding than talk. If you want to buy tech that will be obsolete within 5 years with no games, be my guest. But you don't come across sounding as smart as you think you do
@8bitOG - so.. I don't know if you understand how the internet - or life - works... but when someone gets home from work (if you work) and they jump onto a news-story... they can make comments... because I don't live on PushSquare... I go off and have a life. You seem to suggest me commenting on people's posts is somehow having a go at them... read their posts, and read my comment. I have opinions (we all do).
For example - I do not plan to get a PS Pro because at this time I do not agree with the concept or execution... I think however it's fine for people to buy a beefier PS5 (I just don't think it solves the underlying problems in gaming). You seem however to be trying to hate on the Pro... because PC prices? My point is - if you think this is a hardware price issue, then I don't think you understand the console community. Or is that you can pull-together-a-PC at the same price-performance level? That's fine... then do that.
PC is NOT the same experience as console... and Sony (as do MS) exploit that in many ways... so there are good and bad things about both. It isn't a simple "I can build a better PC"... that argument is so reductive, it's not meaningful. I play console because I actually don't want to sit in front of a computer (more than I do) and I don't want to put up with constant battle for compatibility or settings-hunting. I also want to have something the whole family can play. It's ok if you do want the PC experience... it's also ok if you think a PC is better value.
No one is requiring you to buy a Pro... I haven't... just let it go.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare that was a lengthy love letter. Perhaps you should take your own advice and "just let it go"
So the OG PS5 box had "8K" written on the side...the PS5 Slim box had "4K120" written on the side...yet we had to wait for a "PRO" revision to have a "new era of gaming" announced and to be actually "playing with power"? SONY now actually charges double for what they were supposed to deliver with the OG PS5? ... How come anyone still supports this business?
@8bitOG The funny thing is... just reading more of the comments... are you actually buying a Pro?... You said "it" (the Pro?) is arriving today. If so, congratulations on that - I hope you enjoy it... as a console (even if we disagree with what that is). I'm off now... so no more love-letters from me.
@cuttlefishjones I switched from the OG PS5 to a Slim model and swapped the nvme. The Slim then rebuilt the database and all games were there. No need to re-download.
I got my pro yesterday and did some tests on various games, here is what I found:
BG3 - Improved RT lighting and better frame rates in the 60hz mode - still doesn't quite hit 60 in act 3 but much better
Metaphor ReFantazio: Now at a locked 60fps - it was 50-60fps on base PS5
Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd: Big uplift in RT reflections in the Quality mode, some the the best looking RT I have seen on a console to date - especially the water
GT7 - Awaiting the Pro Patch
Dragons Dogma 2 - Higher Res noticeable on a 4K TV but not a 1080p one, RT has been taken up to the next level. 30fps locked mode now locked in all areas, still some dips in cities for the 60fps mode.
Stellar Blade - Big uplift in fps on performance mode and resolutions greatly increased
Rise of the Ronin - Improved RT mode and a much smoother 30fps and 60fps mode, graphical fidelity seems higher
Spiderman 2 - Quality mode but at 60fps with all the RT turned on, looks great. The 30fps RT mode (40fps on a 120hz screen) is a real treat with some seriously impressive RT for a console).
Hogwarts Legacy - Noticeably improved RT on the Fidelity RT mode - still runs at 30fps but looks very good.
I plan on trying more games out today
If you want games that run at 4K with RT and 60fps, the PS5 pro is the only console currently that will offer than for the next few years. For the tech £700 is not that bad but for those happy with their PS5 and not wanting more there is no need to upgrade yet.
Mines is going back. Coming from a launch ps5 to the noise of coil whine and fan noise on the pro is too much for £700. Also no usb a to c on the front ports and having issues with games taking far too long to exit back to dash (my tv basically drops the signal for a while before reconnecting back to the dash) tried 2 different hdmi 2.1 cables.This wasnt an issue on my og ps5. Should have followed my own advice and never buy day 1 consoles. I'll sit it out for now.
Got mine yesterday after upgrading from the base model and I’m very happy with it. Ratchet and clank looks gorgeous on it and I’m very happy with the build and performance so far. Managed to snag a a disc drive from a retailer yesterday too for delivery and of month so very happy!
