Whether it was an intentional removal or not remains unknown, but PS Stars users are beginning to notice the return of cash rewards on their PlayStation phone app. Reports of a £5 / $5 redemption option going live have spread across the internet, and we ourselves now have the reward listed in our personal app. It was noticed just over a month ago that the option had been removed, meaning PS Stars users could only redeem their points for full games or digital collectibles.
While the option was unavailable, Sony provided no updates as to whether the offer was purposefully removed or not. As such, we'll likely never know if the function was added back in as a result of the blowback from users or disappeared as a result of a glitch. For now, at least, the £5 / $5 redemption option is available. No other options, like the previous £10 / $10 or £20 / $20 offers, are present on our app.

Mine never left? I redeemed my points for a £5 voucher a week or two ago no issues - surely I can't be the only one?
Uh the 10 dollar option has been available this whole time I’ve been using it
Holy crap, it's true! Just got the $5 I earned after loading up in the Black Friday sale.
Cool, perfect timing, redeeming that today. The Platform 8 will be free!
Can confirm. I can finally see fiver option. Had points for tenner so im cashing it out.
Thanks for the heads up! Redeemed my fiver before it disappeared again.
Thank god! I was really irritated by them removing this. I wasn't going to buy sh#t going forward.
Amazing, never used the rewards before. Have just redeemed £25 worth of credit...
Dayum! I thought the good times were over 😎
Thank goodness. Otherwise that would have been a fatal nerf to the service.
Never went away for me.
Cool. Yes, I have now 5£ and 10£ rewards svailable. Collected 5£ while it is available. Never know about that with Playstation.
@NeuralDeclan me too. I've had the £5 offer the whole time and redeemed it a couple weeks back
Finally, I've been waiting over a month to redeem my points. I'm just spending them ASAP before they take them away again.
The 5€ option is also back in Germany.
The £5 is back for me and ive still got the £10 option as well
Redeemed mine before it vanishes again
Of course they’re back after I broke down two days ago and used points on something else. ☹️
Didn’t expect to see them again TBH.
***** finally, just converted all my points and added like $50 into my PSWallet before they took it down again.
Yay it's back. Very close to getting back a £5 voucher again so in the words of Alan Partridge 'Jurassic park!!!'
€5 is live on the app in Ireland. That was two of the quickest redemptions I've ever done in my life.
FINALLY! I better move fast before they realize it's back.
Edit: only option available to me in Caribbean (US PSn account) is $5 but I'll take it!
Thanks for the info, I've been checking most days and had just about given up on it returning and had assumed it was just being phased out as people update the app.
Only the £5 option was back for me but that's cool as it's all I could get for my points. Redeemed quickly in case it goes again.
I don't think I've ever seen the £10 option. I thought it was only £5 and £20
Never disappeared for me.
Had it cone up in coins or was it always 1,250 ??
@NeuralDeclan Don’t call me Shirley.
Mine definitely did go away and I was annoyed because I had £20 worth of credit to redeem. Glad it’s back but I will be redeeming it straight away in case this happens again
Excellent news! That change was very disappointing so glad they've brought back the wallet rewards
I just redeemed twice.
Just let me redeem [Redacted] ffs...how can a app be so buggy in 2024? Lol
@KundaliniRising333 I got points for games out of the Black Friday sale and points for renewing my sub.
I redeemed £10 worth of points today as well and bought Dino Crisis and got the 80 points for it.
I just wasted points on balatro thinking it would never return
I'm glad they took the time to keep us in the loop and explain what happened.
I was one of them that had the £10 option. Good for people that had the options removed. Now the Reddit page can relax. Haha.
This isn't quite accurate and the same was said back when it was being reported the wallet options had been removed; plenty of people still had them, myself included. The £5 and £20 options were replaced with a £10 option for me. Now I have £5 and £10.
I had no option to cash redeem before (i.e., it was missing) but now I have the option to redeem 1,250 for $5 again. My only option, but I was able to redeem it multiple times instantly.
I only have a $10 option
@NeuralDeclan it was a completely random issue. Some were affected, some weren't. I only had £10 wallet funds available. Some believe it was A/B testing but it's probably just a glitch that Sony took a while to fix because Stars doesn't seem like a huge priority given the long outage.
I have to renew my ps+ sub. Will this give me points?
Potentially an A/B test to see if people bought other stuff if the cash option wasn't there.
@Orpheus79V yeah this was my point, people keep representing it as some malicious removal of the options by Sony when I think truly it was just a major bug that took ages to get fixed because Sony either couldn't or wouldn't prioritise it.
@Nakatomi_Uk it was always 1250 points.
I also think this was all just a bug since everyone's experience has been different. For me, I think all options disappeared after the PS Stars outage, then the £10 option showed up again, and now the £5 option is showing again. I don't put the bugs past PS, considering the PS+ discount sales are also usually an absolute mess in terms of who's entitled to them.
Yeah, I can't remember specifically, but my option for PlayStation Stars (NZ) credit just changed values to a single value, with little or no disappearance and now they have two options now.
So I'd say Sony wasn't really removing the credit options, but just took too long to iron out the system for some regions.
But who knows, could be wrong.
What, no € rewards?
