A new Alan Wake 2 update has been deployed today on PS5, though you won't find any PS5 Pro-specific enhancements in its patch notes. Remedy has said it needs more time to research "a few things on the Pro when it comes to improved performance" as the update available at the PS5 Pro's launch made the Performance Mode worse than it is on the base console.
Addressing the PS5 Pro performance issues, Remedy said on Twitter: "The PlayStation 5 update (1.200.005) does not contain anything PlayStation 5 Pro specific, but we wanted to acknowledge that we are seeing your feedback. We are still researching a few things on the Pro when it comes to improved performance. We'll keep you posted. As PS5 Pro support was a work of many months, it will take the team longer than a few weeks for changes and improvements."
Alan Wake 2 has been one of a few upgraded PS5 titles that have experienced teething issues with the PS5 Pro, others being Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The former is currently facing problems with shiny reflections and quite noticeable blotches on the screen (even after a patch tried to clear them up) while the latter has flaws relating to image quality.
As for the Alan Wake 2 patch that dropped today, which updates the game to version number 1.200.005, the PS5 gyro controls have been improved, and the two DLC packs have been enhanced with The Lake House's collectibles appearing in Saga's Mind Palace and the Night Springs theme available in the Writer's Room. There are also a few bug and glitch fixes, which you can check out in the patch notes list through the link.

I was thinking in buying the game this sales (ps5 standard) it is ok right now the game for ps5 standard or they messed up with the pro patches?
Still no fix.....wow
These "enhanced" patches ended being more problematic than many expected.
I'm not too concerned. We're literally just over 2 weeks in after PSSR launched and devs are learning it's pros and cons and how to use it, and crucially how NOT to use it. PSSR will also improve over time.
I remember all the issues with DLSS 1 and FSR 1 that were quickly improved. Same with PSSR I don't expect it to be the finished article at launch. Just give them a little time and I expect most of these issues to be ironed out quickly.
I believe devs want to see if the pro console really sells before eating extra development costs. We might have a ps vr2 situation again.
@Major_Player Hi buddy, I can't speak for everyone but I waited until the Pro came out (& a physical edition) to play this and it runs really well. Having not played it on the base model I don't know what the original complaints were but I haven't had a single bug or glitch and I am about 12 hours in. It really is a fantastic game!
@zebric21 Jesus the consoles not been out a month yet, give it a chance, the patches that do work great are brilliant (in real life on a decent size and specced screen) not on youtube or websites 🤣
@themightyant I don't know of it's just me, but for the Silent Hill 2 situation it looked like there was a weird effect already on the PS5 version (Quality or Performance mode, I cant recall which) and PSSR has simply enhanced this effect so it is even more noticable and weird. I remember seeing the footage, especially in a dark corridor, where it looked like it was raining inside, and the ground outside was shimmering too, and then the PS5 Pro version made it even more glaringly noticable.
Perhaps at times it could be a case of them enhancing the bad elements and the devs need to sort that out before they just hit "PSSR" and send it out into the wild.
And the less said about the technical prowess of Respawn's Jedi games the better 😬
@Steel76 I agree. But just as we generally have a lot of games that are rushed out to hit a date, and bad patches in games we also have bad PSSR implementations. Bad releases are not exclusive to PSSR, but devs will quickly learn how to use it efficiently, and it will improve. It feels like teething problems right now, which is entirely normal for new software. The internet likes to make everything a catastrophe.
PSSR is pretty rough right now, the amount of movement in static objects in games like Star Wars outlaws leaves a lot to be desired.
Performance so far is good though.
Fingers crossed for some speedy updates from Sony and the developers of their respective games but not exactly a smooth launch for this console.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@themightyant I agree, PSSR will greatly improve over time as it's utilised more. For now devs should just really leave in the base PS5 graphics options as well to avoid these issues.
Though somewhat ironically, all the games with good implementations have left the base PS5 options in, even though you won't use them and all those with bad patches have removed them. It's almost like one set of devs want you to see how good their work is and the others really don't want you to compare them 😆

I think this is an over exaggeration, to quote Oliver over at Digital Foundry who has extensively tested virtually all the PSSR games.
Yes there are a few poor implementations, but also plenty of good ones. There's also room for PSSR to improve. But as I said above the internet loves to make mountains out of molehills, and it seems it's the current target du jour for trolls and knee-jerk reactionaries.
I just got this game on sale for my PS5 not professional, and I'm pleasently surprised. There were few not graphics related bugs, with conversation triggers etc.. but in general awesome game.
PS5 Pro enhanced version will be pure joy once they polish the early PSSR adopter quirks.
@themightyant i mean the movement and shimmering artefact seems to be a real issue and it is instantly noticeable.
And even games like R&C which are supposed to do it well have odd parts that look like a muddy mess when you stop to look at them.
When something is supposed to make the game look better and it is a toss up as to whether it actually looks better or worse that is in my view a mess.
@Medic_alert It is an issue, but only really noticeable in a few games in my experience, though I haven't played the worst examples (SH2, AW2 etc.). But as with ANY AI upscaler there are pros and cons, whether it's DLSS, FSR or PSSR. They aren't always auto-wins and need to be enabled carefully.
While it's hardly scientific my PS5 Pro experience so far has been positive. I've quickly trialled GOW: Ragnarok, Horizon x2, TLOU x2, Demon's Souls, Dying Light 2, Spider-man x3, Calisto Protocol & Hogwarts, as well as seeing boosts in games like Elden Ring, FFXVI, Deathloop, Death Stranding, Control, Ghostwire Tokyo, RE2 & RE3, Witcher 3, Genshin Impact, ZZZ and Tales of Arise that don't have a patch but do hold a more stable framerate or get improved resolution via DRS. None of those games had anything i'd say was bad or a noticeable downgrade, but what was VERY noticeable was the smoother framerates, which very rarely fall out of the VRR window.
As an aside I wonder whether the shimmering issue is amplified for some users on certain TV panels or TV settings... or even just subjectively to some eyes. I remember something similar in Horizon Forbidden West at launch where some players were saying it was unplayable due to shimmering foliage whereas others had few issues. I played Horizon Day 1 and it just wasn't noticeable on my setup unless you hyper-focused on the foliage, then you COULD see some temporal instability, but it certainly wasn't unplayable, or even very noticeable. I'm not doubting people had issues, but it was odd that it was so polarising. Later it was posited that it may have been amplified on some users TVs especially under with certain sharpening settings enabled which might have highlighted the issue. I never saw this followed up, but I wonder if something similar is happening with PSSR, where we aren't all seeing the same thing.
Unless they are patching in a better CPU there is only so much you can do. PSSR and the Pro has been a lot of hit and miss so far. The tech will continue to cook and should be in a much better place in time for GTA6. But if not then the PS5 Pro was more Scam than Ham!
@themightyant I'm not at all commenting on the pro as a whole, just PSSR.
Whether people notice it or not is not really something I'm concerned about. Objectively PSSR is in some instances introducing new artefacts that spoil the image to a more or lesser degree. This isn't a beta product and it is an issue, albeit one that I expect to improve.
I'd advise anyone thinking about getting a pro to hold off for now.
I'm actually enjoying the game a lot on my base PS5, so no complaints on my part
@JustCameHereToSay Nice one mate, I was thinking I can't be so lucky as to have had no issues and all the others have! Good to know I am sane
@Major_Player Spot on mate, I can only say it runs brilliantly on the Pro, as for the base model - no idea!
@Medic_alert I agree PSSR is introducing artefacts but again only in some games. Many don’t have them, or not noticeably.
And I agree I wouldn’t recommend the Pro to most people, but not due to PSSR, I just think the base PS5 is a great system and good enough for most players.
But if you are an enthusiast and already have a 120Hz VRR enabled TV then it might be worth considering. Value is subjective, but I got a deal and once I sold my launch PS5 the Pro only cost around £265 net. As an enthusiast that is absolutely fine for me for the next 3-4 years.
@Nekomichu Im playing on Pro and any issues they claim exist are lost on me. Im 9 hours in and over halfway through and I dont notice any issues. (Games not that great tbh)
People are ridiculous. I played Alan Wake 2 on the base PS5, then played the DLC on the PS5 Pro. The Pro version was WAY better- basically the Fidelity version from the base PS5 at 60 FPS. It didn't have any major problems that weren't also on the already imperfect base version.
Worse than the base version on the PS5 Pro? That's crazy talk!!!
