In case you somehow didn't know, PlayStation is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It's already marked the occasion in a number of ways, but it seems the brand's UK team is pulling out all the stops for this important milestone.
Over on X, PlayStation's UK team has revealed that, for a limited time, London trains on the Victoria line have been decked out with PlayStation iconography:
Yes, from now until 7th January 2025, commuters can take a rest on some freshly reupholstered seats flying PlayStation colours and symbols.
It looks great (and not just because we're used to tube trains looking much less clean than this), and it has us wondering what more the company has in store as we draw closer to 3rd December.
Sony has pulled publicity stunts like this before, and fans have also been treated to 30th anniversary consoles and accessories, a soon-to-be-released trial version of Gran Turismo 7, and much more. It really does feel like PlayStation is throwing everything it can at this special occasion, and we're excited to see more.
Are you excited for PlayStation's 30th anniversary? Will you be riding the hype train in London? Alight for the comments section below.

Totally tubular, dude.
How about they throw some love for games like WipEout and Motorstorm at the occasion? Thought not.
This is the cleanest those seats will ever be.
How about making some more 30th anniversary ps5slims instead?
That's half the budget of a new Ape Escape right there.
So… is this a PlayStation?
I wonder if the cost of changing it back will be done by Sony or the taxpayers
@Haruki_NLI You must be fun at parties.
Yeah maybe produce more than 12k 30th anniversary Pro’s instead of this crap. Unless the idea was to piss off loyal gamers that have been there since the beginning.
I love Sony's marketing machine, but I'd rather Sony work to lower operating costs so that we aren't paying $80 per game next generation simply because the advertising department loves to make a giant spectacle over everything.
Dec 3rd baby, just have to BELIEVE. There WILL be a showcase!!
@Haruki_NLI does it matter? You think the cost of doing that is more than what Sony paid for the promotion? Either way commuters profit as the seats needed doing.
PS Direct had some more stock of the PS5 Disc drive this morning and a few other retailers briefly had stock over the weekend. I didn't want to pay £160+ to scalpers on Ebay. A little patience and £99 instead, just in time as I picked up FFXVI for £15 from Amazon.
If anyone is still looking for one I can recommend the HotStock app which sends an alert when there is stock. I'd recommend making sure you are logged into each of the stores so you can check out quickly on your phone if they become available as they don't last long.
@GamingFan4Lyf I mean, Sony doesn't set the price of third-party games, which represent like 95% of the games available on the PS5.
@get2sammyb No, but it sets its own prices. Plus, you know, reports it spends the GDP of a whole country for a game which includes all of the money Sony spends on advertising like it does.
Look, it's fared Sony very well as PlayStation absolutely dominates the premium console market thanks to advertising the way it does. But there is no doubt that Sony spends A LOT of money to release games - and part of that is painting trains with PlayStation ads.
Maybe if Sony culled back spending, it wouldn't be trying to chase the Live Service Dragon so hard.
Oh, so THIS is the PS5 Slim!
@themightyant Thanks, just downloaded! I'm chasing that disc drive for a month now. I'm not going to buy a Pro until I find one first...
@Tatarimokke Took me less than 2 weeks with the app to get one, you do have to be a bit on the ball, I missed a few stock drops. Good luck. I honestly wasn't in a rush and was willing to wait till next year, but nice to have it done.
@get2sammyb well, I mean, they are brand new, they are not gunna get newer!
Yet they made artificial scarcity for the grey console, cool bro
@get2sammyb as someone who was just on a new york subway train I wish they did an event like this 😅
How about put out some really good first party games (no offence Astro... ). That would be celebration that we can all get behind.
@MrPeanutbutterz Unfortunately both Studio Liverpool and Evolution are long dead and Sony's first party studios don't seem to have the know-how to even remaster the old ones.
Plus they'd need the green light from Herman and we know how useful he's been in anything not Horizon related....
will be covered in alcohol, sick and food stains within the a week
@GamingFan4Lyf saying their advertising has fared them well, and then saying they should scale back the spending in the same sentence is counter intuitive.
We all know the saying "you've got to spend money to make money" and that's exactly what PS have been doing. If they hadn't spent the money in the first place, do you think they would have the market dominance they have at the moment?
@TrannosaurusBex Tough to say. Nintendo has the dominance it has without every game it makes costing the GDP of an entire country in development and advertising costs. It doesn't do spectacle advertising.
The thing is, I don't think Sony needs to go this far anymore. Apple has dominance in the mobile arena and do you see it redesigning public transportation with new iPhone ads?
There is so much complaint about ballooning development costs and the need to pick up the slack elsewhere - mainly off the backs of the consumer.
How about, cut some PR money, instead?! Sony doesn't need to do what it does anymore, it's already solidified its market out of sheer gaming habit alone.
YouTube videos generation millions of views. Pretty sure making a YouTube video doesn't cost nearly as much as overhauling public transportation aesthetics.
Any Sony ad big or small will get the most hits and interest because it's solidified itself as the market leader - much like Apple is solidified as the mobile market leader.
Maybe Sony wouldn't be chasing Live Service so hard if it cut costs elsewhere. Maybe the Pro would have had a disk drive because it could afford a small loss selling the console. Perhaps Sony wouldn't need a PC strategy (since a lot of people here seem to hate that Sony even has a PC strategy at all) to recoup costs partially spent on crazy advertising.
Now, that isn't to say it should go the route of Microsoft (where advertising is all but non-existent), just...scale back the spectacle.
Plus, from an environmental standpoint, it's less trash once its use has run out.
@GamingFan4Lyf I agree that, these days, PS probably doesn't have to have the same huge marketing campaigns that it might have needed back in the PS3 days. However, they clearly still think they do, and they're the ones who can see the metrics on what is and what isn't making them money. Clearly they still feel like these campaigns are necessary.
Personally, even though I'm unlikely to ever see one in real life, I think the campaigns are fun. That one a bit back where they changed the station signs to PS logos was pretty cool.
Saying that, I also agree that your point about the environmental impact is very valid as well.
