STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl launches today on PC and Xbox systems, and while critics are generally pretty positive on the survival shooter, it appears to have some technical rough edges.
Of course, modern game development means that some or all of these issues will be fixed with post-launch patches, so when the title does reach PS5, it should be in a better state.
It's often forgotten, but a while back, STALKER 2 was revealed to be a timed console exclusive on Xbox Series X|S. This period, as far as we know, is for three months, and if we can assume nothing has changed in the interim, this means PS5 users may get to play it as early as February 2025.
However, that's the absolute earliest we could expect to see the game on Sony's console, and it'll likely take longer. Developer GSC Game World is based in Ukraine, and has been significantly affected by the ongoing war, leading to numerous delays in STALKER 2's production.
It's safe to assume that a port to PS5 may arrive much later, then. The original STALKER games came to PS4 back in March, so we expect a PlayStation version of the sequel is planned — and when it does eventually arrive, it'll benefit from all the technical fixes made in the meantime.
Are you playing STALKER 2 today, or will you be waiting for the PS5 version? Tell us in the comments section below.

all that advertising and its THREE MONTHS ONLY???
I don’t think this will be fixed in three months to be honest
Is a metascore of 74 really „generally pretty positive“? I hope they fix it before the ps5 release.
So basically Xbox are early access testers and hopefully the PlayStation version is fixed in time for its proper release.
@Greifchen I mean it’s an 80 for XSX/S though so, it is technically generally positive.
Currently watching Skill Up's review and jesus christ the game is a broken mess. Not a good week for Xbox what with this and Flight Sim being unplayable for most.
@Greifchen That's pretty much a 7/10 which for me isn't a bad score at all, a 7 generally means it's "good". If the PS5 version is running better it will probably score in the 80s.
@ChrisDeku No chance. Pretty much every aspect of the game is broken in some way or two or three.
@Greifchen If you read them, many of those reviews say the game itself is great. It’s the technical issues that are dragging it down. So “pretty positive” is probably referring to the views of the overall game sans the technical problems.
Microsoft was failing with FS2024 yesterday(i don't know if they fixed it today) and then they fail again with this game.🤣🤣🤣 I'm not pulling the Xbox series x out of the closet for this set of fails.
Watching the Skill Up review and listening to the Kinda Funny Gamescast, not only does the game look broken as hell, it also seems like a truly awful story with a lack of direction with underbaked systems and lazy quest design.
The atmosphere seems exquisite and the visuals (when working) are magnificent but I’m probably not even going to give this a chance on Gamepass right now, this is going to be one of those games where you don’t actually start it till 4-6 months after release.
Game Pass fodder
@UltimateOtaku91 A version running on Pro will run better.
@DonJorginho Microsoft likes to rush games out before they are ready.
@anoyonmus I’d imagine that you’ve never wondered why Xbox metacritic scores for a game are higher than versions of the same game for other systems where in some cases it actually runs better? Here’s a thought, mull that one over for a while… it could be an eye opener 😎
So it became a norm a game is launched not ready. This is why i stopped buying games day 1 a year ago. A buy them whe ready ... and cheaper as a bonus. Astrobot not included 🤣
I can wait the 3 months for some patches, really excited it's coming to ps5. Very nice.
Hopefully those who are interested in this game and can play it right now actually pay for it.
The devs asked directly for people to buy it if possible (after the first xbox showcase of the game coming to gp, that was funny) and they are from Ukraine so ... yeah.
I have not a clue what version or what the reviewers are playing this game on or TV.
I have a Sony A95L 65”
First 2 hours impression stalker 2 running like a dream not a single thing wrong.
120hz VRR Dolby vision and atmos all working and confirmed by tv.
Performance mode, low motion blurr.
Panning very smooth and clear.
Not one single issue and plays like a dream.

Even the steam forum are not happy about this game.
(Stefan: I am voting with my wallet. This game is just a big money heist.
They won't get my money for this buggy mess on release.
This is cyberpunk 2.0 all over again.
Release a broken game and fix it over the next years.)

@OldGamer999 Maybe it's a Series S issue then?
@UltimateOtaku91 nah it’s a 4090 issue too according to reports… I guess it must just be one of those any PC (no matter how beefy your rig) issue… but runs perfectly ‘juicy’ on Xbox 🤷♂️… 😉
Oh, I was wondering why there wasn't a review here for the game lol. I must've missed the news about it being timed exclusive.
@colonelkilgore How does one screw up so bad that even a 4090 can't run it right?
@XenonKnight I love it. "The Steam forums are not happy"... but the link just goes to a thread where the only replies are from people clowning on "I'm voting with my wallet". 🤣 I'd have picked a better example, to be honest.
Maybe it's pre-patch issues on PC? going to have a look at xbox series x gameplay on youtube.
This PC gamer says no problems 80+ minutes into gameplay, although that's a beefy gpu he has lol

After watching few reviews (including SkillUp) I have no idea hiw this game scored even 77% on metacritic. It's completely broken and unplayable. And what is there is flawed and needs fixing or rethinking. What is the basis for such a high score?
A hearty thank you to Team Green’s beta testers!
@OldGamer999 the only thing I can think of mate was the day one patch didn’t come out till after most reviews went live, prior the patch SkillUp was getting drops to 30fps on a 4090 with 64GB of ram, so the only thing I can imagine is the game came in HOT hot during the review period, I’ll keep an ear out for more user reports, as I was so hyped for this game.
@Markatron84 Here's one:
Out of video memory error
I have a 4070 Ti SUPER and I can't get past the shader screen. I get an error "out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory. try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting...." and as I 'm getting this error the fan on my PC ramps up to high speed. My driver is updated, I have no other programs running, and I exceed all of the minimum game requirements. What is going on???
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1643320/discussions/0/4626980689722536402/
That's a video card with 16gb of memory.
@XenonKnight ikr… glad it runs perfectly for the Xbox gamers out there though, it’s been a sparse year for them and I know they’ve been banking on this
@UltimateOtaku91
I have not a clue what it all is.
I know a second day one patch came out as reviews came out and some reviewers have held of to see what that does.
I do run at 120hz with VRR on.
In performance mode with motion blur low.
I’m ticking by at 60fps but forced 120hz in the series x setting.
On the best qd-oled money can buy A95L.
@colonelkilgore I don't think it's running perfectly on a Xbox Series s.
@DonJorginho
I have not a clue what it all is.
I know a second day one patch came out as reviews came out and some reviewers have held back to see what that does.

@DennisReynolds maybe better watch livestream for now. Game today got 36GB patch. 136GB patch 2 days ago. Eho knows how old prr review copy they got.
I played 2 hours on Xbox today. Zero bugs and mess. Yeah, not locked 60fps, but it is playable
@REALAIS what version of xbox?
@REALAIS
I have not a clue what it all is.

Nice article. Glad to hear this will come to Playstation.
@XenonKnight that's better 👍
@Ken_Kaniff It's still going to a mess in 6months.
@XenonKnight Series X.
@OldGamer999 why are you spamming same response again and again? Full comment section with this blob
Who knew that making video games in a war zone would be so hard????
@REALAIS
Because I just don’t understand the reviews and some just jump on the wagon and have not even played the game.
Just so much negativity in the game world and putting games down when unjustified.
@DennisReynolds All I ever hear is that he has said a game is a broken mess. By which I mean that’s what people seem to report on here. I’ve never watched any of his videos.
@UltimateOtaku91 I always hated when PC gamers said that about console exclusives (gta, horizon). Imagine my surprise hearing the same crap on playstation site :/
@Medic_alert didn't they move things out of Ukraine?
@Medic_alert They're not making the game in the middle of a warzone though because most of the studio relocated to Prague to continue developing it.
@OldGamer999 Because everything must be done straight away. Game reviews are relevant only first couple days. You have to put out video for most value. But this game wasnt ready for Pre-Reviews. Now it is suffering.
@Rangers420 And that's in Czech Republic under the protection of Nato.
@XenonKnight Yes i know that.
@OldGamer999 Probably because you are playing a version that's been patched a couple of times (one within the past 24 hours) where the reviews are based on pre-patched code.
This is the reason Eurogamer has withheld scoring as well as PureXbox.
Unfortunately for review scores, it seems like the game wasn't ready for review, but is ready at release.
@Rangers420 @XenonKnight yeah leaving your home in such circumstances must have made the process way easier.
Still giving them a pass on this one.
3 hours in myself on Series X and no problems at all no glitches or stutters, just asked on a few livestreams on twitch and everyone says it's been fine so far one said a couple of stutters and that's it...it's just mainly xbox hating fanboys hating on it (all the usuall suspects names) and exaggerating the pre release issues
Just booting the PC up now to try it on there as well
@PurvisP It's still not ok on the pc version. Go look at the steam forum.
@GamingFan4Lyf
Probably the reason.
I’m sticking up for this game but being honest it’s not my type of game and I won’t play it for long.
Time will tell.
But I have to say it as I play it on the performance and find this industry frustrating, especially with all this Stalker 2 stuff today.
@REALAIS
Yes that is true facts.
Even if they had held off one more month.
It would have helped, just from my own performance review on what I have played seems a lot more positive.
Then again that is series x only with all the best settings on the best TV, that all may help.
@XenonKnight
Going to try it my PC now to judge it for myself even steam suffers from hate campaigns and the people I asked on twitch are streaming on their PC and report no issues so far other than one who had a few stutters
@Medic_alert I have every sympathy for them and honestly it's a miracle they even got the game released but it could have done with being delayed again till early next year to give them more time to get the performance a bit more stable.
@OldGamer999 @REALAIS
No matter how you try and argue it. There are issues. Even after the patches.
How do we know this? Because the Dev has come out and said they will fix it.
That’s without looking at any forum where it is issue after issue.
It’s a shame because there probably is a good game underneath it all.
The fact it’s even released is impressive given the circumstances. Besides, wanting a STALKER game to be polished is a fool’s errand, the fact remains that the ideas and atmosphere are miles ahead of games with far more polish.
@OldGamer999 Not being funny but why do you keep listing your TV? It makes zero difference on how broken the game is. 4090's are struggling to hit 60fps with DLSS set to performance i honestly doubt you're hitting 120fps and either way it doesn't change how every element of the game is broken.
@DennisReynolds Are the 4090 having memory problems like the 4070 supers?
Yes I know the 4090 have 24gb of memory vs. The 16gb on the 4070 supers.
@XenonKnight I don't know i'm just going by what Skill Up said in his review.
Played it for 2 hours via xCloud. It’s Stalker alright. Janky, subpar animation, flat English dubbing, weak gunplay. It plays very well on xCloud but I doubt I will bother playing it. A letdown so far.
@gollumb82 You should have know better then to steam it.🤣
@OldGamer999 There's plenty of videos online showing the frame rate dropping way below 60fps on Series X so people aren't just being negative for the sake of it.
@colonelkilgore pretty sure COD done OK for them...
The series that helped coined the term slav-jank being janky checks out. I applaud them for sticking to their guns and not dumbing it down. Will get this down the line, no doubt.
@XenonKnight it doesn’t run great on pc so I don’t think hardware is the real issue here
@Greifchen Scores don’t always tell the whole story. If you read the reviews most are pretty positive about the game but have ranked it down because it’s buggy and unfinished. Were it in a better state it would score better
@XenonKnight
Uh, xCloud and Geforce Now work great for me. It’s the game, not streaming. Just switched to Forza Horizon 5 and it works perfectly.
@XenonKnight plus, Steam users can't be that miffed about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2; it currently sits at 76% positive in user reviews. If the Steam audience at large isn't happy with a game, you can be sure the user score will plummet. Case in point: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is currently at 20% positive.
@DennisReynolds currently 6 hours in on the series x and I've not had a bug or a glitch....great game so far
@DennisReynolds
Oh well never mind back to my PS5 Pro and some Dragon Age.
My TV, did I mention the A95L 🤣🤣🤣
@Deljo pretty sure I said Xbox gamers not Xbox as a sub-brand of a corporation… although yeah Xbox would’ve been in a financial black hole rn if it wasn’t for CoD. Amazing how spending $70 billi can save your quarterly’s.
Thanks again Phil for the Xbox Beta test.
@DennisReynolds but it’s the best tv money can buy
@colonelkilgore why so bitter about xbox? They seem happy enough and your happy with ps so alls good, no?
@Deljo why so serious?
@colonelkilgore think it's bed time buddy, you seem confused 👍
@Deljo don’t let the game-breaking bugs bite 🥱
@Artois2 and? It doesn't fix bugs and performance issues.
Ok tried an hour on my RTX 3080 (12GB Version) with Ryzen 5 3600 and it ran completely bug free on the games own recommended Epic settings with DLSS it gave me a fairly steady 55-60 fps I also tried it on High settings with DLSS off and it still gave a respectable 55-60 fps
So in short runs great with no bugs experienced after several hours on both Series X and PC for myself
@PurvisP So could it be idiots with intel problem?
@PurvisP What resolution and DLSS setting were you running?
I will be giving this a whirl a little later on 4070 Super (also 12GB), Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32 GB RAM on a 1440p monitor.
@XenonKnight
🤣 Who knows maybe it is hardware specific or just people who want their setup to unrealistically give huge fps rates when these days it just doesn't happen with AAA games
Well time to boot the PS5 and play Forbidden West for a bit...it's grim in the radiation zone best not to be exposed for too long each day
@GamingFan4Lyf
Performance mode on DLSS and at 1440p didn't bother really tweaking anything for better performance as long as I'm near 60 fps I'm happy as I'm not too savy on settings tweaking anyway
Looking forward to playing through this and the nostalgia it will conjure. Too bad they released it unfinished. Likely ran out of resources to delay it even more.
Game looks like a load of joss. A relic from days of yore
@PurvisP I take a pretty “plug and play” approach myself.
I turn on the Nvidia performance monitor, crank settings to max and start with DLSS Quality and if I see 60+ for most of the first 30 ish minutes, I don’t touch a thing and turn the monitor off.
If I hover in the low 50s, I drop DLSS to Balanced and if it’s 60+, I turn off the monitor again.
That’s my “tweaking” and I am okay with it!
At least the core game seems to be quite great. It seems bogged down by bugs and glitches, but the overall game is solid. I’m excited to give this game a try; it’s my first entry in this franchise. I have no doubt this game will eventually become a classic, once things are ironed out. I also want to support the developers because they have been through hell and back with this game due to real world conflicts, so I wish nothing but the best for them.
My goodness I’m getting second hand embarrassment from the hopium in this article
For some reason, i thought this was exclusive exclusive to xbox, or at least a year or 2.
The original trilogy was rough on launch too. I think Clear Sky was even broken for a while.
@colonelkilgore I think Xbox generally gets the least reviews on MC which usually inflates the scores. Multiplatform games generally have most reviews on PS5 or sometimes PC if the game has issues on console (usually a good way to tell how a game performs on console before DF).
Pretty much working out how I thought it might. I hope it does well after it's all patched up. I love the series.
but..but this was hyped up by known xbox shill jez corden wha-happun?
@OldGamer999 I sympathise with what devs have gone through but they are the ones who released the game in this condition and gave it to critics in bad shape. A critic should not have to wait because "the day one patch fixes most issues". You review the product as it is not as what it could be. If people are seeing SkillUps footage for example and seeing a broken game, it isn't their fault that they come away with negative impressions because that's the impression STALKER 2 provided.
Game already has a good player base (more than even the new Dragon Age) on Steam and an 80% positive. A lot of reviewers may have been playing without the patches. So far so good on my Series X!
But please, take the word of those commenting here over those playing it.
@PurvisP Running 1440p in DLSS Quality Mode got me in the 80s (+- 10fps) when out and about.
Getting to the first city dropped the FPS down into the lower 50s at times but sticks around 60-ish - CPU usage shot up to like 60% at one point!
Lowering down to DLSS Balanced keeps the majority of City traversal above 60 - only occasionally dipping under 60.
Not exactly sure what is causing those noticeable dips when getting to a town. Nanite buildings + crowd logic? That's the only thing I can think.
Otherwise, after about an hour of playtime, no real issues or bugs to speak of. A little stutter here and there, but not egregious for a UE5 open-world title.
I'm on pc so the only issues I get are minor frametime stutters. It doesn't look like a game that'll improve on ps5 if the Xbox version is having issues. Especially in 3 months. This looked like a pc game first and thats where its main audience is.
So what's the news here? All I see is speculation that the game might be fixed by the time it releases on PS5, without any statement from the developer or anything.
@breakneck some logic in the comments section… will wonders never cease.
They're gonna fix it in 3 months?
Not so sure about that... From what i've seen in the videos the problems are quite severe... Given the time it took them to get to this broken build, I'd say they'll need at least 1 more year to fix everything up.
@GamingFan4Lyf
Nice, will have a play around with my settings later to see what I can get it to
Couple of little tweaks and running over 100 FPS now on Epic, really must learn what I'm doing
@RedRiot193
Yes it does have that for PC vide just like Starfield does on consoles as well.
At least we Sony making first for and only console games.
Something strange but true going on in the zone?
How can some gamers have no game breaking bugs or glitches and some do?
At what point or how many hours into the game do the problems start?
It just doesn't add up?
Yet I did see some videos showing no issues so what gives? these so called bad/severe bugs/glitches must start at a certain time in the game. Apparentley skillup played an old build? of the game so that makes things unfair I think, it's all a bit strange.
I'm looking forward to playing this one once the sharp edges have been sanded off. Probably on PC, as I'm hoping someone will make a mod for slavic accented English dialogue. The English dub is atrocious, and otherwise I'm going to end up playing in Ukrainian with subtitles
@torquex Other sites and YT channels also claim technical issues encountered during their reviews (Eurogamer, Gameranx, GmanLives etc), SkillUp are not alone in this regard.
It could be that the pre-launch build has the problems, but even if it does, those kind of bugs are not solvable in a short amount of time until launch, or even 3 months after.
I have it on game pass, I'll give it a go this weekend, and see what's what.
@awp69 its almost unplayable on my series s
the developer: "we have no plans for a ps5 release" LOL
why are you always lying lol
Can't speak for anyone else, but decided to play it myself to see if the day 1 patch solved the bugs and had the following issues on XSX in the opening 15 minutes.
All in all it was in a better state than some of the reviews show but still very unpolished imo and needs plenty of work considering this was just the very start.
As for the gameplay I also had issues with some of the UI and design decisions which seem designed for PC / keyboard and mouse without too much thought to console e.g.
Lastly I died twice in the opening 15 minutes to an invisible enemy (after getting the first artifact) with not much clue what was wrong. Games don't need to handhold, but they do need to provide some feedback as to what happened so you can learn.
All in all I like the vibe of the game, but i'm happy to wait for this to be improved, even if it's better than in some reviews it also seems pretty rough right now.
Well about 12 hours in now switching between the Series X and PC and still not a single issue has occurred 👍
Yeah it's a common report, I watched Worth-A-Buy YT review funny bloke but he did say that there is a great game underneath the technical issues but he does not recommend it in its current state. Does not bother me personally because I watched some gameplay videos and it was the same old same old, I played the first game on pc when it first came out, heart of chornobyl is more like a mod imho. NPC's are as dumb as rocks lol.
Nice one and some others are saying the same, it's kind of weird to see polar opposites on the same hardware/platforms for the same game code, I feel like I'm in the zone tripping on an acid anomaly, ha.
Pure Xbox review 4/10 yikes, I watched the review and yeah it's rough in places and the open world is a bit bland and devoid of life, it looks like it needs some form of fast travel. It needed more dev time, a rushed product like cyberpunk.
