After effectively confirming a new Virtua Fighter is planned, SEGA has also announced a big balance update to Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, the e-sports leaning version of the classic brawler released on the PS4.
This update will deploy in the winter on Sony’s console, alongside a massively improved Steam version of the game on PC.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will feature 4K graphics, rollback netcode, and more. There’s no word on whether there’ll be a native PS5 version of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown incorporating these changes. There’s also no mention of crossplay between the PlayStation and PC versions, which seems like a mistake.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see Virtua Fighter making a comeback. Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, the makers of the Like a Dragon franchise, has been shepherding this series recently, so you know it’s in good hands.

Steam is getting the absolute ultimate edition.
It's a great era to be a PC gamer for sure.
While this is nice, I really hope this isn't the new VF game they mentioned in that interview recently. VF5 has had so many re-releases at this point, that it almost feels like they're twisting the knife in fans hoping for a new VF game.
I'm not bother about a native PS5 version as arcade stick support is poor because of Sony but I wouldn't mind a PS5 aware patch to boost visuals
Perfect news, I look forward to the update and the Steam version. VF5 is one of the few games I miss since I started the slow transition from the PS4 to the PC.
@carlos82 you think so? Actually it feels like anyone can make controllers for PS5 these days.
If you are talking specifically about old sticks support I get it but the components to make PS5 sticks are out there for anyone to buy. All the small companies new releases are fully compatible with PS5 (if they aren't oriented only to pc to reduce costs because it's old tech).
At first it felt like the possibilities were limited to fighting games because Sony gives different kind of permissions to controller makers but after the announcement of the SWORL by JunkFood, a mod controller fully compatible with PS5 made to play more than fighting games the possibilities are more open than ever.
Sigh just make 6 please. But I will get REVO.
Awesome to hear! Hopefully this is all leading to a better VF6
@GymratAmarillo yeah I'm talking about existing arcade sticks, many of which work on multiple platforms but Sony don't allow PS4 controllers to work on PS5 games for no good reason. Thankfully for wheels, they do actually allow them but stick users are out of luck and either need a 3rd party adapter or waste a lot of money on a new stick
A balance update is fking useless when no one plays the game. The crappy delayed based netcode is pretty much killing VF5 US on PS4. I boot up this game last month when i took a break from SF 6. But it's pretty much a ghost town.
So why on earth Sega didn't add rollback for PS4 as well crossplay?
They knew this game playerbase is very small compare to other giant like SF or Tekken. But what they did is divided PS4 and PC playerbase with a different version of the same game!
Man, i don't have any hope for VF 6 if Sega are this clueless. I'm just gonna stick with SF 6 that has superb netcode + crossplay where i don't need to wait long to get an online match.
