Elden Ring Dev Doesn't Current Know What's Happening with Sony Acquisition 1

Sony is poised to purchase Kadokawa, the Japanese media conglomerate spanning various businesses across gaming, manga, and anime. One of its most noteworthy subsidiaries is FromSoftware, a longtime PlayStation partner on projects like Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne.

In the aftermath of co-op game Elden Ring: Nightreign’s announcement, many are pondering what the acquisition could mean for the future of the Tokyo-based developer. According to game director Junya Ishizaki, it still doesn’t really know.

“To be perfectly honest, we just don’t know right now at the moment where the discussion currently is at,” he told IGN. “If it’s taking place, we're not privy to it.”

Both Sony and Kadokawa have confirmed that discussions are taking place, while staff of the latter have signalled an eagerness for the deal to go ahead, citing the company’s current poor leadership as a reason for it to embrace change.

While there’s a good chance the discussions could still break down, Kadokawa’s business perfectly aligns with Sony’s current goals, and its shares recently reached a record high on the back of talks taking place.

We actually think this deal will eventually go through, as Sony has already invested in both Kadokawa and FromSoftware. We don’t think that signals the end of multiformat releases for franchises like Elden Ring, though; we expect the Japanese giant to be quite hands off should the acquisition get finalised.
