In service of its live service ambitions, Marvel Rivals has been looking to a Nintendo favourite for inspiration. Beginning 20th December, ahead of the holiday season, NetEase is adding an all-new mode to its superhero sensation, where Jeff the Land Shark will be, well, engaging in a spot of Splatoon.
The seasonal mode will be available temporarily over the holidays, but don’t rule out a return if it proves popular. It’ll be flanked by new skins, including one which transforms Groot into a Christmas tree. Obvious, but brilliantly executed.

The developer’s promising “other surprises” right through the promotional period, so make sure you’re logged in and interacting with the game during the holidays.
Will you be testing out this Splatoon-style mode? Let us know in the comments section below.

It worked well for Foamstars...
What's the betting that this gets more players then foamstars?
@AdamNovice It’ll comfortably get about 100 times as many players as Foamstars, haha. If not more!
I'm just here for the Foamster jokes. Was not disappointed. 😂
Waiting to see if the Splatoon fans keep the same energy they had with Foamstars.
Are they gonna slowly build this up into more than just hero shooter? They aiming for Fortnite status?
So for the people in the comments that don’t seem to get this: the Jeff splatoon mode is a limited time mode added to the game for the winter festival event. It will not be a permanent part of the game and the game is not trying to be “Overwatch+Splatoon”. This is just a fun little mode to add during the holidays like how Overwatch adds the Mei snowball fight mode to the game every December.
LAWSUIT INCOMING
I like it, it's a fun little mode to add variety to the game.
