Sony’s signed on as the publisher of Midnight Murder Club, the sound-based first-person shooter from Velan Studios, the team previously behind the brilliant Knockout City.
The PS Store lists Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher for the game, while its PlayStation Publishing moniker is leveraged on Steam. While it appears Velan Studios has retained ownership of the intellectual property, it does suggest the title will remain exclusive to PS5 and PC for the foreseeable future.
There’s a crossplay beta available for you to try right now, but the game itself is effectively a first-person shooter where you’re shrouded in darkness. You can use a flashlight to guide you, but doing so means you’ll expose your position to others. That’s a pretty nice gameplay mechanic!
According to Velan Studios, Sony has been lending assistance on DualSense support. You can also expect this title to take advantage of the Tempest 3D audio features of the PS5, as positional audio is particularly important in this game.
The aforementioned server stress test will run until 22nd December, ahead of an expected Early Access release date in February. Did you try out the demo yet? Are you surprised to see Sony sign up as the publisher of this game? Let us know in the comments section below?

Thought it looked kind of interesting, but need to hear more 😉
OMG I thought the title said “Midnight Club”. I gasped in adulation. Then I was met with disappointment lol.
Midnight Club is my favorite racing series and I’d love for them to revive it. Midnight Club: Los Angeles goes down in history as my first ever platinum trophy.
Games honestly super fun, but I can see its gameplay becoming stale pretty quickly. Hope it does well though. Knockout City was criminally underrated imo.
"aforementioned stress test" is the first mention in this article of a stress test as far as I can see??
Also you never mentioned there was a demo to try? I would try it if there was info in the article about it
Might be a sign of PlayStation publishing more games like they use to on PS3.
@BamBamBaklava89 That's the thing it is a lot of fun but it doesn't seem like it has much else going for it.
I watched the trailer and it looks pretty unique.
Such a shame about Knockout City, was pretty fun.
@SeanOhOgain there is a link in the middle of the article to a post yesterday informing about the free demo?
@Nepp67
It's not that fun. Played 2 matches and it's boring. You can't see anything unless you have your light on. Which exposes you to whoever is around. Dumb game.
@Magatsuhi That's because you're supposed to utilize sound ya goober. Lol It's all about listening to the audio to try to detect where everyone is at. Obviously using your flashlight in a dark game is gonna be risky.
@Boucho11 most people wouldn't typically click every link in an article, and I even double checked there and the link you're referring to doesn't mention the demo in the sentence.
Clear, informative writing is important and I found the article fell well short of what I expect from PushSquare
Knockout City was a fun platinum but I won't be going for this one. Played a good few matches yesterday and while the premise is cool, it's just not my cup of tea. The Marco Polo mini game some guys were playing in my lobby was funny though!
@SeanOhOgain you’re just being awkward. Grow up and find something better to do with your time
@Nepp67
What makes you think I didn't use sound? Even with sound you still can't see anything so if you're in a different room you won't know where the door is. It's a dumb concept.
@Boucho11 this is literally 15 seconds of my time; I was giving constructive feedback. You're just trying to have an argument 🤷♂️
@Magatsuhi so once again, use your flashlight.
@AhmadSumadi i think a few of us did that. For a split second I was elated haha
