The soon-to-release Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will feature a suite of extras aimed squarely at fans of the beloved PS1 and PS2 action adventures. Developer Aspyr has hinted at this bonus content before, but now we've got all the details.
The headline act has to be 'Lost Levels' — a collection of areas that were cut from the original Soul Reaver. You'll actually be able to explore these environments, which should give some additional, potentially fascinating insight into the game's development.
The Lost Levels can be accessed through a new 'Bonus Content' menu, which also includes a gallery full of concept art and renders, and a music player that contains extended soundtracks for your listening pleasure.
Meanwhile, 'Lore Reader' offers up newly crafted maps, complete with "poetic descriptions of places and events". These maps were "created in collaboration with the Legacy of Kain Fandom leaders, key community members, and Crystal Dynamics artists" — which sounds very promising.
Then there's the 'Dark Chronicle', which is about as hardcore as extras get. Basically, this mode provides the entire script for both games, in text form. And that's cooler than it sounds, because Soul Reaver's script was really well written and voice acted — especially for its time.
What do you think of all this bonus stuff? Do you enjoy it when games go above and beyond with extras like this? Let the Soul Reaver nostalgia flow in the comments section below.

Can’t wait for this. Even though I know it’s going to be rough with the age of it I’ll be supporting in the hope for a new game.
It's already pre-ordered. Just waiting for the day.
I've got to admit, I'm pretty damn excited! And there's a in game map!!!!
The fact you'll be able to explore previously unreleased/cut content it really cool.
This definitely seems like a lot of love has gone into it. Can't wait to play it on the 10th 🔥
I was there playing the demo disc back in the day, picked up the game day one with the holographic cover. Excited to pick this one up day one too
Already pre-ordered. After I beat Blood Omen 1, I will dive into Nosgoth as Raziel. Very happy to return to one onf my favorite franchises, and now I will have played all games, as I lacked BO 1 and 2 back in the day. I hope they bring subtitles to the new versions. Our support will ensure Defiance later!!
I have pre ordered this and booked the week off work!! I would love it if they added Turel, the missing brother/boss that was cut from the original game, but I highly doubt that they added him. Maybe in bonus content. Anyone else not working to play this legend?
This is the one and only game I've ever pre-ordered. Yes, I've made it, throw the stones.
Really excited for this extra content. Hoping for a physical version as well.
Already preordered. Even though I wish they would have gone the full mile with proper Remakes, I'm really looking forward to replay them both (must be for the 7th or 8th time? Can't remember precisely).
I hope our contributions will show the devs there is still demand for this beloved IP, and they'll decide to further enrich the franchise with Remakes of the 2 Blood Omen games and LoK: Defiance.... maybe it will even inspire them to create new releases in this fabulous universe.
@djlard Heh, no stones to throw, I wish I've made an inspired choice like this with my first preorder ever...
Can I get an arrow to tell me where to go?
I would love an option to play with the original graphics. You can tell it’s lovingly done, but the remastered graphics look a bit cartoonty to me, and take away some of the grittiness, I think… Still glad it’s coming though!
Classic games. I still vividly remember playing the demo for the first one way back on PS1, from OPM. Or maybe it was a Pizza Hut demo disc promotion? I don’t recall where I got it, but I enjoyed what I played. Looking forward to revisiting these.
"because Soul Reaver's script was really well written and voice acted — especially for its time."
The voice acting from Kain (Simon Templeman) and Raziel (Michael Bell) was way better than a lot of modern games!
Sadly, if they do complete the story with a sequel to Defiance, I fear they may not both be able to reprise their roles - MB is 86 according to WPedia and doesnt seem to have done anything for a few years, ST is 70 and still working.
The script may have a few players looking up words rarely used these days, if i remember correctly.
@Rich33 hmm they may have to recast. It's sad, but it's life.
