Ubisoft has patched another PSSR toggle into the PS5 Pro version of one of its games: Star Wars Outlaws. Available via update 1.5.0, a new "Upscaler Type" option can be found in the settings that lets PS5 Pro owners switch between PSSR and FSR. The update also makes the three graphics modes from the base PS5 version available on PS5 Pro alongside a mode for outputting 60 frames-per-second.
This is the second game Ubisoft has updated to give PS5 Pro owners the option of disabling the upgraded console's features, as PSSR can introduce visual glitches like shimmering. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was updated with the toggle last week, and now Star Wars Outlaws has it too. Ubisoft announced it is investigating the PS5 Pro patch for Avatar, so a fix may be coming soon.
The new Star Wars Outlaws update has more than just extra PS5 Pro options, though, as it also brings lots of balance changes and general fixes to all players in a 6.76GB patch on PS5. You can have a read of all the patch notes through the link.
Have you encountered many issues when playing Star Wars Outlaws on PS5 Pro? Let us know if you shall use the new PSSR toggle in the comments below.

Is Jedi Suvivor ok on pro ??
@Danloki It's only a handful of games that have a bad implementation, most are fine and get a decent upgrade. It's more about poor implementations than PSSR being fundamentally bad.
Several devs have said it's not that hard to fix once they put the right minds to it. COD developers told Digital Foundry it took just half a day to solve it, though the patch still has to go through testing, QA and certification. Other devs have said similar. Feels like growing pains that will be largely forgotten once devs understand how to use it.
Silent Hill 2 needs this badly now
@Danloki news about good PSSR implementation doesn’t get the clicks. So it seems to the layman that it’s a “shipshow”. Pleased to meet you layman 🤝
Just as with DLSS PSSR needs time to evolve. It is a shame that it doesn't work straight out of the box and it does take Devs to change some of the ways they work their pipeline. But later iterations will be better anyway and by the time the PS6 hits the shelves I fully expect PSSR to be on par with DLSS or FSR (if that gets much better - the latest veriosn using AI may have the same issues to start as DLSS and PSSR do or did).
But overall I am very happy with my Pro anyway, the additional benefits it brings to table more than make up for some minor shortcomings.
@ROBYER1 They went back to TSR and it looks far better
This is great news. I'm installing it now to see how it looks since the extra gpu on the pro can probably push out a better res with fsr.
@cuttlefishjones I think the main issue is sony's quality control. It's not clear if they are sending experts on pssr to help mitigate these issues or not like nvidia did. And it seems like no. Since sony 1st party titles are a different beast with pssr than 3rd party games.
Talk about a product or in this case PSSR released to the general public too early.
Is there any real point now to the PS5 Pro.
Being honest I’m replay hoping someone probably in the USA tries to sue Sony in court.
They really do need a lesson to be taught to them.
Even when playing last of us remastered on PS5 Pro, turning off pro mode and running performance mode in unlocked frame rate looks better than pro mode.
Really hope the console flops bad for Sony.
Not for gamers and the general public but scum that release product to early and charge £700 for it need a dam good spanking.
Before anyone says anything I’m one of those culpable ones that purchased a PS5 Pro.
Worst console purchase I’ve ever made and I have purchased all the consoles day one.
Anyway have a full refund now and glad I have.
@OldGamer999 this is one of the strangest comments I've read in a while. Nevermind the fact you flip weekly between selling your series x, to then be playing your series x, to then be on your new pro, which you now think is made by scum. It's tiring to keep up old boy.
In time this will go away, PSSR will develop and it will do what it's meant to be doing, and likely do it well. All this talk of suing folks has more drama than ITV.
Edit: and now you've refunded your pro. Good lord man
@Weebleman
Im sure you can keep up, it’s like East Enders on a weekly basis 🤣🤣🤣
@stu123
Yeah don’t upset captain Caveman, if you have seen the cartoons, you know you can get hurt 🤣🤣🤣
So who’s at fault here because plenty of games are using PSSR and no problem here sir so 🤷♂️
Another developer chosing the more sensical way to get their games going again.
@Danloki Fun fact most games use it just fine like Warhammer SM2 what got a Pro update this week. Path of Exile 2 also uses it just fine as well. Non Pro owners really need to stop commenting on it as you have no idea on what you're on about.
Two games by the same developer and publisher having the same issue? Nah, it's PSSR that's the problem! Doomers gonna doom.
@Weebleman I'm convinced he's a troll that actually doesn't own any console. Waiting for him to change to a Nintendo avatar when Switch 2 comes out, praise it, then decry and sell it when a minor problem comes up.
@Loamy What performance mode are you checking it on? There's two 60fps modes now the original performance mode and the 60fps quality mode.
@Jrs1 Apparently it also have issues and hasn’t been updated yet.
@OldGamer999 Most games run and look far better with PSSR so sue Sony how? Its not Sony's fault Devs are rushing out shoddy patches. Honestly though i suspect you never even owned a Pro giving your past comments.
@IOI Ah right ok, cheers bud.
@Danloki Then you would know the majority of games look and run fine with PSSR.
@Weebleman yeah i see his comments frequently on here and pure xbox, he does seem to be Mr Flippity Floppity
I hate PSSRs look in motion in all games that have it. I disable it where I can like GT7. Existing solutions are clearer. I am feeling benefit from the PS5 Pro in most patched titles but without more CPU on tap I do feel like I’ve been mis-sold when the £700 could have gone towards trading my 4090 for a 5090 in the new year.
@OldGamer999 It's not that PSSR was released too early, it's just that this type of tech typically needs a couple of iterations to become solid. It was like that with DLSS and FSR, it's not a surprise to see it with PSSR. The software will improve and so will the implementations in games. By the end of the PS5 cycle we'll be able to properly judge PSSR, and I suspect that the narrative will be completely changed by then.
The rest of your comments are a bit too hysterical for my tastes.
@Danloki first party games look great. As does FF7R. Doesn’t sound like it’s the tech fault. More lazy devs.
@DennisReynolds
I most certainly did have a PS5 Pro day one.
And not that impressed.
They should have rolled this product out more professionally, which better testing and communication with developers.
I think even 3 months later than release date would have been enough time.
But that would have missed Christmas times.
@Danloki Imagine thinking Digital Foundry and first hand experience is "misinformation" 🙄
@OldGamer999 Dude you have past comments basically saying the opposite. You're flip flopping your opinions on it and you even mentioned being "Pro only". Its hard to believe anything you say to be honest.
@lazarus11 I thought i was going mad. I see him on a few different sites contradicting himself. It's like reading comments in 3 different timelines
@Jrs1 No. It basically has the worst PSSR issues of any game and they haven’t even put out a patch so you can revert it to the base PS5 mode yet.
This has been such a bad look for Sony and the PS5 Pro. It's only been out for about a month, and it has been a crap show ever since. I have a PS5 Pro, and I genuinely love the hardware, but these games that are giving actual worse experiences than the base hardware, and are now needing to patch out one of the Pro's most advertised features is a marketing disaster for Sony.
@OldGamer999
What an unbelievably pathetic take. You flip almost every single day and it's hard to take anything you say seriously as you say exactly the opposite the very next day.
Quote from a post you made on this site this morning "Reasons games and my PS5 Pro is now my third party games console and main console." You also appear to hardly play games with ps5 being your most played system at 200 hours? I completed Vielguard last weekend and put 178 hours into that alone....
Quite frankly, why should anyone have any of intrest in what you say when you have no consistency at at all? Please don't ever ask me for advice again as the only advice you will ever hear from me is that you should take up a new hobby.
As for pssr, Space Marine 2 pro patch is a good example of what can be done when a dev takes a couple of days to get it right. It's no suprise that Ubi haven't tested properly, that's why their games always launch in such a shoddy state and they are desperate for a take over. At least they have put this stop gap in place for now till they get it right 😀
@Ainu20 It's crappy that console gamers have to be the beta testers for it though. Usually new rendering methods get introduced on a PC first, where you can generally count on such things being an option that can you disable. Once bugs are worked out on PC, then they trickle down to console.
PSSR is seemingly AMD's first stab at doing at an AI upscaler. Making a console the test bed for that was a questionable choice.
Digital Foundry said that when DLSS was new, nVidia was only allowing it to be implemented in games where they worked closely with the developer to ensure it was working correctly - lest a bad implementation by a developer make their new proprietary tech look bad in consumer's eyes.
Clearly Sony/AMD should have had a similar policy until the kinks got worked out. Allowing developers to use what is effectively experimental tech on their "premium" console without keeping a closer eye on their implementations during the this critical early period is really souring the Pro "narrative".
These PSSR issues are kind of worrying tbh…. Is the PS5 pro in trouble?
@ChimpMasta
Tbh is a tv with a good VRR a solution by itself for a stable framerate. No need for a pro at this time. But this is my personal opinion.
@DennisReynolds but his comments are based on first hand experience so surely what he's saying is valid?
So basically they don’t care at all about optimizations and just said “too much work”. No wonder so many studios are closing.
@Hypoman the reason pssr is a boon, at least for me, is because my eyes are hyper sensitive to vrr, vertical sync etc. I can see the flickering and it’s dizzying, causing discomfort and headaches. Pssr removes a lot of that flicker, or at least it reduces it to a point where I don’t notice it.
Yep, I'm glad i skipped this console. Its cost and performance/image quality improvements isn't enough to convince me to spend 7K + 800 bucks (for the detachable disc drive) to get one. I just hope that by the time PS6 comes out in 3 years, that it can do PSSR better <<<in every game>>> (and it'll probably will) so i can play PS5 games via BC, just like I'm doing with PS4 games, with better image quality and stable performance without the need to rely on a TV with VRR
So it looks people paid astronomical prices for Pro and it is almost same hardware as PS5, because upgrades are... better when turned off.
This game needs to so many corrections with it's issues, I'm surprised they are even focusing on this first.
@Coffeeglitch
😊 Didn’t know people having these VRR experiences? Sounds pretty annoying! 😳
@Loamy
Reading your info on the various graphics modes. Very sad they cant make a decent looking mode at locked 60fps on Pro - Im sure I have played (if only to try out) a large number of games over the last few weeks that look very good at 80+ fps...
Mind you, if you listen to some of the 'experts' here who 'definitely' have Pros themselves, im talking rubbish and every game runs the same or worse!
You certainly have a good point regarding PSSR in motion - I think it really comes into its own here in terms of console upscalers, and one of my first thoughts when playing a few games was how much better they looked moving e.g Hogwarts broomstick flying.
Game ran flawlessly on the base ps5 when I started playing it after the November update. I didn't expect having such a blast from beginning to end.
@Loamy
Yeah, im all for choice - im in the camp of more options underneath pre set profiles -and having PSSR as a choice in these early days, would be a good thing, providing the choice hasnt been added to compensate for poor work!
There is after all, a decent chunk of extra GPU for devs to use in addition to PSSR.
I just thought it was a good point you raised in your 'review' (ie IQ in motion) - something ive seen a lot, but something thats not spoken about often (particularly by those putting the console down having never even played one lol).
@Hypoman very annoying! Nothing wrong with the console or tv, anything like that. I have some hypersensitivity issues and my eyes just don’t do well with super brights, so flickering is noticeable to be more than most. PSSR eliminated a lot of it, same with Nvidia DLSS.
@Danloki the devs r the issue not PSSR.
@OldGamer999 You having poor impulse control and not waiting for reviews is on you, fella, no one else.
@ChimpMasta
Yeah, i agree. The developer should deliver a decent product that runs as it should run. With or without VRR.
Weather the game rund PSSR or FSR3 isn't that big of a deal. The game changer now, is disabling the cinematic camera. That on its own makes a huge difference. The game now runs great and looks much better. I suspect the cinematic filter was messing with the upscaler.
@Danloki
Turn off the cinematic filter
@Danloki
Then I have no idea. I did, and the difference was huge. It's like texture filtering gets vastly improved on fine details and edges. The smudgy look was gone in an instant.
