Bandai Namco announced some fairly big plans for Tekken 8 overnight, during the Tekken World Tour Finals.
For starters, a 'Winter Update' is incoming, which will feature some impressive photo mode improvements and additional customisation slots for each character. A new Fight Pass is also being introduced to celebrate Tekken's 30th anniversary.
Next, Season 2 has been confirmed. It'll kick off next year, and it'll include a suite of new DLC characters — one of whom appears to be Anna, going by the teaser in the above trailer.

Season 2 will bring sweeping balance adjustments to Tekken 8 as well, while gifting every character new moves. Generally speaking, the game is pretty well balanced as is — barring a few fighters who feel a little overtuned — so it'll be interesting to see what kind of changes the development team makes.
Oh, and the final character reveal for Season 1? That's coming at The Game Awards. We assume it'll be a big deal, given that Bandai Namco's managed to snag a spot at Geoff's show.
Are you still playing Tekken 8? Who are you hoping to see as the final Season 1 DLC? How do you feel about Season 2? Reload that rocket launcher in the comments section below.

Please be Tifa
This has to be Tifa. Bandai Namco would not save this announcement for the Game Awards if it weren't an iconic character beyond Tekken.
Waffle House level and Tifa and the internet would explode
Nope, it's my biggest gaming regret of 2024.
I am however, still playing Street Fighter 6 as if my life depended on it.
@MrPeanutbutterz I'm the complete opposite to you. Absolutely love Tekken 8, makes street fighter feel irrelevant to me. But as I always say too each their own 👍
Also if it is Tifa is playable then all my Christmas would have come at once
@QualityGeezer "Absolutely love Tekken 8, makes street fighter feel irrelevant to me"
It's the opposite for many diehard Tekken fans in my local community. They really hated Tekken 8 to the point they jumping to SF6 ship because they think it offers superior netcode & more balance gameplay compare to Tekken 8.
I only played a bit of Tekken 8 so i can't comment much about the gameplay or netcode. But i played a lot of Tekken 7 and i feel there's something off with Tekken 8 gameplay like it's less enjoyable compare to Tekken 7.
But again, to each of their own.
Yeah, ever since Bamco confirmed there wouldn't be a reveal of the last season 1 fighter at the TWT finals I figured they were not only saving it for the TGA but also that the character in question is undoubtedly Tifa.
Far as guests for TK8 goes I almost can't imagine the first one being anyone else but her, unless they intent to mind[beep] us by adding either someone "infamous" (I have heard people half-joking about TLoU's Abby) or a non-VG (but still famous and likely more known) character instead.
Well glad to know the first opportunity I can go make a cuppa during TGA!
I hate this business model. $70 game + $40 for four more characters, but then they ask for another $40 for another four characters because this is a new "season." All the fighting games do it. I buy just Tekken as far as fighting games go now and wait forever for a complete version to be at a reasonable price.
@The_Wailing_Doom As far as i remember, Tekken never have a "complete version" or re-release edition with all contents except for Tekken 5 called Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection.
So you gonna wait for a long time because Tekken 8 possibly will last for 6-7 years or more, possibly the same as Tekken 7 who last for 9 years.
Tekken 8 base game itself already has 32 characters so you don't need to buy season pass, especially if it doesn't have your fav characters. But if you insist on getting season pass for "completion sake" then buy it when they're on big sale.
@PuppetMaster You are indeed right. Tekken makes owning the complete game confusing and costly. They keep pumping out new seasons for $40. Even the ultimate editions of the game have one season pass and costumes, so are not ultimate.
I broke down and bought the base game for $30 a month or so ago. Maybe next year they'll have a nice big discount on the first season pass or perhaps even a bundle. Or, I'll continue getting by with the base game. It's up to Bandai Namco .
please don’t be tifa or lucky chloe
@The_Wailing_Doom 100% agreed. The pricing is ridiculous. I love supporting developers but they can f themselves
@Cry_Zero Agreed fighting games are the worst form of dlc practices, they can indeed go f themselves 😃
@QualityGeezer Each to their own for sure, glad you're enjoying Tekken.
I've been heavily on board with both series since the 1990s. Have owned effectively every release in both series. This time out it's flipped - played lots of Tekken 7, whereas Street Fighter 5 was straight up rubbish.
I don't think Tekken 8 is a complete turkey, just a big step in the wrong direction with Heat. And despite its technical prowess, its visually quite dull and repetitive too.
PuppetMaster makes a good point too - the netcode feels like it's barely holding it together at times. I play hardwired to a fibre optic connection and it's still not great. Plus you get a lot of PC players who run the game on underpowered set ups and every time they drop a frame, I get that too on order for the fight to stay sync'd. No such issue on Street Fighter 6 (sure it runs just fine even on PS4) and the netcode is so good it may as well be witchcraft.
@PuppetMaster Can confirm that the Tekken 8 netcode is... serviceable (at best). But coming over from Streer Fighter 6 it feels like several steps back.
Plus you see way too much stutter from PC players who can't keep the game locked to 60FPS. So your PS5 will drop the same frames in order for the game to stay sync'd.
Hopefully its Tifa. Anna being in the next pass is kinda annoying as she was DLC in T7 as well.
@MrPeanutbutterz Same here! Bought both games on release. Played Tekken 8 only the first weekend, and only 8n hrs ish before I was bored with it. SF6 on the other hand, one ish session a week since release.
I'm really excited, who will be the 4th fighter.
I would also love a Tekken Bowling integration in Tekken 8 with additional online option.
@BIG3 and it's the absolute opposite with me. I didn't play SF6 that much, but I absolutely adore Tekken 8.
@Nintendo4Sonic Same here. Except opposite.
@The_Wailing_Doom Yeah the DLC nature of these games I hate the way they dripfeed you new fighters you only get to the roster you want near the game’s expiry date. I saw the roster for WWE released just 8 months ago and it’s like 300 wrestlers?! That’s wild, I got it in the bf sale there and it felt like an investment whereas these games even an ultimate edition 2yr down the line you feel you’re far from the finished article.
@SystemAddict
You're right. WWE games are annualized, so they are on a tighter timeline.
@SystemAddict and none of those 300 wrestlers have the depth of a single character from any Tekken game. T8 has over 30 characters right out of the gate without DLC, that's a great size and bigger then what most fighters launch with even older Tekken games.
chances are it'll be Tifa, you don't skip the tournament just to announce Josie or something
@SystemAddict I hate seeing this take. These games are feature complete at launch. The extra fighters are just that - extra. You simply didn't get them added back in the day.
@BIG3 Yep, Tekken 8 is a swing and a miss for me.
SF6? Yeah I've got over 500 hours on it. Actually just logging out of a late night session now lol.
I've got this game on the back burner for when they release Lei! I hope he's in season 2 🙏🏼
@DennisReynolds I prefer tekken I need to get back to it. Right after I build my stick 30 fighters is big but even then WWE takes even that and raises tenfold; I mean come on 😲 they’ve all got their signature moves I dunno about depth I mean what do you need…
@MrPeanutbutterz I believe in keep adding to the roster, retain everyone you’ve ever inroduced with each new game bigger means better as a means of a series progression raise prices as you need fit anything’s got to be better than expensive pass for 4 fighters that haven’t even bn made available yet. You can still use new creations and silly outfits as dlc bait………….
@SystemAddict I mean its a handful of moves for one Wrestler vs 100's for one Tekken character and each move has to balanced around the other fighters.
@DennisReynolds those are real moves though, true to the physical form a genuine recreation have to stay grounded. Rasslin’ is real Tekken is fake
@PuppetMaster nah man tekken 7 did get a complete edition way after the fact like I think it was sometime in 2022? I know because I bought it seeing as the only DLC I owned was like Noctis, Geese and Negan. And when I bought it it was on sale too so there’s that too.
@Ryne-Gaia You mean "complete edition" for digital store which was just a bundle between base game + all season pass. But there's no physical re-release that include all season pass.
@SystemAddict That's a ridiculous take. Retooling every single character into the new graphics (they don't just c+v sprites and models from one game to the next) and gameplay engines (Steet Fighter 1 plays completely differently to SF2, SF2 is different to SF3, SF3 is different to SF3, SF3 is different to SF5, SF5 is different to SF5, not to metion even if they all had identical gameplay mechanics, most of the characters get extensive reworks from game to game) would be an utterly absurd amount of work. Even in games of old with ridiculous rosters, they weren't balanced. Fighting games live and die by being balanced.
It would also be a balancing nightmare, but seeing as you're cool with WWF having 300 "characters" (hint - as @DennisReyolds already said, they're basically different models with a tiny handful of moves vs. highly unique characters with potentially over a hundred moves that all have to be balanced correctly) I don't think you understand how fighting games are balanced.
Like SF6 was actually learnable at launch because it had only 18 characters. It'll take hundreds of hours to master one of them, and hundreds more to learn all the match ups.
If you want an ubalanced mess of a game that has every character under the sun, then MUGEN is up your street.
@MrPeanutbutterz -ludicrous I know but these SF style year passes are too much; waiting on one new fighter a calendar season they should be genuine season pass. New fighter a month if the esporters feel at a disadvantage that’s too bad we just wanna have fun with who we like; when we like still willing to wait over the course of two yrs would that be so impatient.
@SystemAddict Yeah that's an interesting way to say "I have no idea how to balance a fighting game and conflate quantity with quality".
