Hot on the heels of the theatrical release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Paramount Pictures has confirmed that a fourth instalment in the movie series is on the way.
As reported by Variety, the company tentatively slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for release in spring 2027.
The Sonic films have been big hits for SEGA and Paramount, so it's no real surprise to see the series continue following the arrival of the third entry.
Not only that, but Sonic 3 reportedly contains not one but two extra scenes within its credits, which basically spells out a follow-up as well.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been warmly received by critics, broadly calling it the best one so far. That's in part thanks to Jim Carrey's double performances as mainstay villain Ivo Robotnik and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
The film also introduces Shadow to the movie universe, a brooding anti-hero that rivals the speed and strength of Sonic and his buddies.
It opens at cinemas around the world starting today. Are you excited to watch the new film? Are you pleased to hear another Sonic movie is in the pipeline? Live and learn in the comments section below.

I suspect that Sonic 4 will revolve around Chaos from Sonic Adventure 1. He is a fan favourite villain after all.
Edit: I just learned of the ending of the film. I won't spoil it but, Chaos for Sonic 5! Let's go.
I've got my tickets booked for tomorrow morning and can't wait. Sonic 2 is my favourite video game movie and this sounds even better and it's nice to know I'll have a 4th movie to look forward to
I should start with watching the second. Games are developed so slowly, I forgot that other things like films still launch quickly by comparison.
Thought this was already officially announced last month. Only thing new here seems to be the planned release date.
I'm more curious who the villain will be here (I have an idea of who but won't spoil it), since I can't imagine Carrey would wanna return for the fourth time. Its honestly a miracle he returned for the third, which I'm thankful for.
@Coolmusic It was likely unofficial at the time but strongly predicted to be true and now it is.
