Dynasty Warriors: Origins is looking like it will be a big commercial success on the back of its critical acclaim.
The soft series reboot achieved the highest rating in the franchise’s long history recently, with our review heaping praise on the title. Now it’s attracting players in droves.
While we don’t have PS5 player data, the title peaked at 69,483 concurrents on Steam, making it the second most successful PC launch from Koei Tecmo after Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
As mentioned, we don’t know how many people are playing on PlayStation, but we do know the title is currently the 10th best-selling game on the PS Store in the United States, behind a number of evergreen games like Roblox and Fortnite.
If you’re one of the many people playing the game, we have a Dynasty Warriors: Origins guide which should help you unlock all true endings and discover the best weapons.
What are your thoughts on the latest Dynasty Warriors game? Is it the best entry in a while, or does it deviate too much from the franchise’s formula? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hopefully this rejuvenates the franchise, will be getting this on pay day.
It's really good, playing on ps5, only think is the mini skirmish could be better. Also could be more like the samurai warriors sanada game. Only played about 13 hours l Would love a more story driven game. Leveling system is interesting, always thought a skill tree would be good. Hopefully the open world is expanded on not played dynasty warriors since number 7 but it's a lot closer to the romance of the three kingdoms novel. I hope it goes all the way to the end , to the Jin dynasty
I haven’t picked this up yet. Normally, I would have, but this year I am making an effort to not buy every new game on release, especially if I know I won’t play it immediately. With that said, I will be buying this game because I love the Dynasty Warriors franchise.
I'll probably wait for the next "empires" iteration, but it's nice to see the series getting some more love^^
I would have bought it on launch but canada seems to have virtually no copies in stores. It would be doing even better if it did. If this doesn't get sorted in the next couple of weeks, it'll be buried in my memory by monster hunter. Shame because the demo was amazing.
Its a good game, and having played a few of the previous games, the new direction of having just the 1 main character works much better imo - more quality over quantity, though a couple more weapon types would be appreciated.
Technically its good too (at least on Pro - I dont know on base as I haven't tried it), but the 120hz option is broken - it creates a judder type effect, particularly as you turn the camera, in all modes that feels like VRR is turned off (even though the console and TV say its on).
NB this is not a framerate issue as even Graphics mode runs well at 60fps, but you can change to Performance mode with the 120hz option on, and (even in an empty area) the juddering effect is there.
Nice to see this doing well. I haven’t played a musuo game in a long while but they always seem to attract a large amount of hate and I’ve never understood why. 🤷🏻♂️
I played the demo , thought it was cr*p , is the full game any better ? Or is it just bash bash all the way ?
I'm so excited to see it doing well. I've been playing this franchise for over 20 years, and for me this may just be the best of the franchise! The emphasis on story and each weapon feeling incredibly unique has been a breath of fresh air. I'm glad their efforts are seemingly being rewarded
Not a big fan of the Warriors-style game (outside of Dynasty Warriors Gundam which we need more of on modern consoles, please Namco Bandai and Koei) but from playing the demo of origins, I'd say I enjoyed it and glad the game is doing well.
@rjejr
I enjoyed earlier games (though I sort of bought them on an unplanned buy 1, miss 1 basis as they were so frequent), and really like origins so far.
Then I just stopped buying them because they started going really downhill imo, favouring quantity over quality (and requiring too much time investment), and dropping in technical quality.
@Dragon83
Story? Lol read the book. Mr pointless face pissed me off. Imma gonna just kill *****.
@Rich33 " I just stopped buying them because "
I stopped buying them b/c my kids outgrew them. And Hyrule Warriors 2, whatever it was called, just wasn't very good after the first one. That's probably the last 1 anyone in my house has played. Maybe 1 of the Gundam ones, it's been a few years so hard to say exactly.
@rjejr
I think its what a lot of people have thought in the past - "I just cant be bothered with another one". They were very unique at first, but milked way beyond madness, gaining quantity but losing quality nearly every time.
I just hope this apathy doesnt hurt origins, which imo is a good attempt at something a bit different while still keeping some of the core gameplay loop.
A character creator would have been nice in the circumstances, but to anyone who has enjoyed previous games (and doesnt mind horrible scripting - story is fine) I would definitely say to give this a go.
@Rich33 Not a fan of character creators, I like mine already created.
Like, I'd play a mosu game where Dante from Devil May Cry goes to he11 and runs into Kratos and helps him escape. Switching back and forth between those 2 would be kind of nuts.
But I'm over the 3 Kingdoms.
@Dragon83 only goes as far as the battle of Chibi. Supposed to cover the first half of it all. Next game will cover the rest.
