Yoshinori Kitase, the legendary veteran director of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, and current producer of the Remake trilogy (fresh off Rebirth), thinks it is time for another adaptation of the iconic universe. As the producer of 2005's excellent CGI action film Advent Children, Kitase would know, and we'd love to see Square Enix return to the well.
Speaking to Danny Peña (thanks, VGC), Kitase was asked what the potential for another Final Fantasy VII spin-off in the form of film or TV was, and Kitase said: "We don’t have anything officially planned, and so this is just strictly my personal sort of wish, but yeah, I’ve heard about various Hollywood directors and actors playing Final Fantasy VII, and many creators also respect the title."
While it sounds like Kitase would be keen to see something new in the setting, it doesn't necessarily seem like he'd like to lead such a project: "I’ve been hearing things about creators out there who are very interested in the property, who love the Final Fantasy VII universe, and so yeah, I’d love to see something that comes out of these creators, in terms of like a cinematic or some kind of visual piece."
Would you like to see another Final Fantasy adaptation, hopefully something more Advent Children and less The Spirits Within? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Kitase didn't direct IX, he did X after VIII
As long as it's not some pointless retelling, I'd be interested in something like that!
Well they can continue where Dirge of Cerberus Secret Ending left off with Genesis Returning.that or an Adaptation of Before Crisis With the Turks
Only if it makes sense to add to the world of FF7.
A cash grab will simply hurt the brand
None of the extended universe stuff for FFVII landed for me, most of it reeked of edgelord. AC was the worst offender, it was straight up shonen anime nonsense.
I’m convinced that 90% of the people who say Advent Children is excellent haven’t seen it recently. I thought it was great when I was 12 years old, in the same way that I thought Findus Crispy Pancakes were great.
Considering that it failed to make a profit when the Final Fantasy brand was at its peak, I seriously doubt anything FF related would perform better now.
Advent children is seriously over looked by people.
@nessisonett I love those with chips and some tom ketchup on the side
@nessisonett Crispy pancakes are delicious.
@Nakatomi_Uk
You cannot be serious about the ketchup..
By adapting into movies, or extending the universe they usually introduce new characters, enemys and world parts, which not always fits. Some storys need to be left alone to be unique and legendary... while i love the remakes and movies so far i rather don't want to stretch it to much. Franschise dies by overuse and money grab...
Better revisit FF8, 9 or 10?
I had a crispy pancake not that long ago. It wasn't as good as I remember. Gutted.
@nessisonett
I just looked up what a Findus Crispy Pancake is, and now I want to eat a dozen. They're like Pizza Pops, but better. I do agree with your point, though.
I really want the third part of the remake to be the last thing we see from FF7 for at least 15 years.
I’m
So over this world.
