Like every publisher in the industry, SEGA wants to keep you captive.
To do that, it’s launched a new SEGA Account which will eventually span all of its games but is starting with Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
While it’s optional, creating the account will reward you with in-game goodies and eventually enable you to track your progress across all SEGA and Atlus games.
Link your account to your PS5 and PS4 before 7th March and you’ll earn a free Kazuma Kiryu outfit for Majima to wear in the aforementioned nautical adventure.
We suspect, eventually, this account system will also be used for cross-play in the various titles SEGA’s cooking, like its online version of Crazy Taxi.
It took us about two minutes to sign up, although we weren’t able to link our PSN account just yet due to an issue with Sony’s servers. What’s new? Let us know if you have better luck!

Not for me because free rewards are for the ones lacking money.
Edit: My not-wealthy friend informed me that he now managed to link his Sega account with PSN
Definitely signing up seeing as I love the Yakuza games
Why are the comments for the previous 2 articles disabled?
Also cool of Sega to do this
@LordFunkalot - Noticed that as well. Probably didn't want all the happy, friendly and impartial comments that those stories would clearly receive.
As for Sega, nice to see them doing even a small thing for fans. But can we have an AM2 Collection please!!!
Pretty please Sega!
@Czar_Khastik anything free has to be a scam. That’s why I pay my wife every night
@dellyrascal Ha ha didn’t think of that, thought there was something up with the site, rather than those controversial characters attached to those stories.
I’ve just played through Shenmue 1&2 and although old though they were great. I’d love sega to unleash their back catalogue
@LordFunkalot - Yeah Shenmue hasn't quite aged as gracefully as I hoped. Am lucky to have the original on Dreamcast, but i did double-dip for the recent re-releases, more so to save on loading times alone!
@Jamesblob is Sega limiting their account to not be opened in 180+ countries? Why are you bringing up this, when Sony is at wrong in general. There would be lot less backlash for another account if it wouldnt take away access to games in most of the World. Even if those player numbers are minority.
Don’t seem to be receiving authentication email, been an hour or two now across two different email addresses 🤔
@LordFunkalot ironic that free speech would be silenced considering the party and names involved 😂😂
@Jacko11 I had 1 back in the day on Dreamcast it was as good as I remember but yea it shows its age now. Trophies were quite good if your into collecting them
@Jacko11 lol 😂
@REALAIS lol please quit acting like that’s the reason there was backlash. The only people who were mad about that were the ones who it affected as they should be the others just used it as a bulls**t excuse to throw their tantrums which is why when it was rolled back none of those people continued to fight for the ones affected funny how that worked
@LordFunkalot I believe the Lord’s last reply was for you about the Dreamcast @dellyrascal 😉
3 messages up from here.
It's only free in terms of material cost. They will be getting other things from you instead. I will still probably sign up. The sooner they can use my data to clone me the sooner I can get my clone to go to work and I can play games all day.
I don't want no more accounts.
More accounts, but the prospect of cross platform saves is very appealing with pc handhelds. Sega is also one of the few publisher's who actually have enough top notch output to justify another account.
@dark_knightmare2 and? In most protests you can find that most people are not affected by what they are protesting, and thats why they cant join in protest? Yes, especially that there are no benefits to own Sony account either play large role. Maybe Sony BS about security and integrity of games needed by implementing that Sony account aswell plays role? But you keep this attitude, that Sony is doing everything correctly. I come from one of those EU countries which doesnt have Sony/Xbox region, while every other company doesnt have issue to provide that. Now I'm living in UK, and it doesnt affect me, but lots of my friends back in there are not even able to buy it on their Steam account. I will not be positivie about lack of Sony respecting everyone and stop this BS about creating two worlds out there.

I remember when we used to get free in game items for having Saves for the other Yakuza games. That’s much better than forcing people to sign up for things like this.

@REALAIS Sony blocking access was a direct result of people complaining about having to make an account and once those countries were blocked the vast majority of the people who were complaining just stopped complaining because they already got what they wanted.
Pretending all the complaints were just about Sony blocking access and not mainly about PC players having to make an account is obviously not going to fly here.
Sweet. I'll sign up to anything if it gets me a cool new outfit to wear in a video game. And if it's our lord and saviour Kiryu's outfit? I'd sign my own death warrant.
I think a lot of people mishear that PSN is not available in 118 countries, then say it’s not available in 180 countries. Either way, that’s a lot of countries.
But whenever anyone who doesn’t know about the issue hears that, they would have to assume the person is just making up a big number, because they know there are fewer than 200 countries on Earth. So, try to use the correct number so at least your point won’t be ignored.
Thank you.
