Sony brought Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann up on stage during its CES 2025 presentation to briefly talk about new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, before transitioning to The Last of Us and its forthcoming second season from HBO.
After a short trailer – which shows actress Kaitlyn Dever in the controversial role of Abby, alongside several other scenes from the game, such as the ballroom – he confirmed that the series will premiere in April on HBO and HBO Max. It’ll consist of seven episodes.
The first season of The Last of Us was a colossal success, winning numerous awards, including an Emmy.
Interestingly, The Last of Us 2 Remastered is coming to PC in April as well, so Sony is clearly hoping for a resurgence of interest around the franchise.

Looking forward to seeing how they adapt part 2. TLOU 2 is one of those games that relies so much on the medium of games to tell it's larger story and probe its moral questions.
That golf episode would be the ending of the season and shock for non gamers 😏
So excited for this!! I didn’t have high hopes for a TLOU show originally but they’ve done a phenomenal job
@anon_pel222 My brother and I told our non-gamer Sister In Law to not search or read comments regarding anything TLOU related because "that" crowd spams every article with spoilers.
@anon_pel222 I actually hope they do it to end episode one. Plenty of other opportunities to keep the shows star still around after his death.
The Masters also starts in April. I see a PGA/TLOU crossover episode coming.
Very curious about the adaptation and the non gamer public reaction if they stick to the original’s story and timeline. Shall be interesting for sure.
I still think they should have picked Gabi Garcia for Abby.
@breakneck
The smart thing I would do to adapt the second game is to tell the story in chronological order and not like in the game, that way we get plenty of time with Joel and Ellies relationship and would therefore make you know what happening several episodes in instead of episode 1. That would work that much better. I hope that's the route they went with.

Look forward to this one, first season was great
I was expecting to see some golf clubs.
I thought they would have split the 2nd game into 2 seasons.
I'm not ready to see Pedro play golf. I love this show and the games, can't wait to see this.
@anon_pel222 be incredibly drawn out if so, it happens super early so...I hope miss end of episode 1 or 2, get the rage over and done with and move on with the story 🤣🤣
@Nexozi they said it would require 2 seasons for part 2 awhile back I belive
@PegasusActual93 I think so. I also think we may get more insight into the WLF/Seraphite issues and maybe a prequel episode with Abby's father and her life prior to the WLF.
The show may not be able to capture the intimacy of the game but it can expand on some under-utilised world building from the second game.
@Uromastryx Ah that's good! Thanks, was hoping they wouldn't rush through it.
7 episodes constitutes a season now?? Remember when a TV series used to be 20+ eps? Lord, “24” sure couldn’t be made anymore now (and even its final seasons were “cut down” to 12 episodes)… 🤪
@XanderTigerclaw
European shows have done the 6-8 episode thing for as long as TV has existed. So this isn't even anything close to new. And the only real reason you got 20+ episode season shows to begin with was because the landscape was much different. Shows were made at a major financial loss and only recouped their costs via syndication. Syndication obviously isn't much of a thing anymore so instead production companies have elected to do less episodes but with more money pumped into each episode and a generally higher quality per episode. Plus episodes of shows now are generally longer than they used to be. I would personally rather take 7 high quality 60 minute episodes a season of Last of Us over 30, 20 minute episodes a season of a mediocre ass sitcom and 45 minute episodes of another formuliac ass drama like what used to plague every TV network.
7 episodes?!?! So, it’s a miniseries then? And half of one at that.😝
I’ll probably watch it if mt $2.99 Max lasts until the end but I’m already expecting to feel like I’ve wasted my time.😩
Excited for this, but especially to see how they adapt the game which should be harder than season 1. The whole structure surely has to change, it's unlikely to be Ellie for the first half and then Abby for the second
I will repeat this in every comment section that I write about this series: Ellie casting is awful.
Other than that, it look alright. I was not impressed by first season.
Well they didn’t exactly stay in the story in the first series all the time, will be interested to see how they adapt what we IMO one of the worst games stories for the second season.
