Marvel Rivals is eating Overwatch 2's lunch right now, and it's seemingly about to double down on that domination with the launch of Season 1 this Friday. NetEase has uploaded a trailer documenting the season's Battle Pass content, and a lot of the skins you can unlock have players excited. See them in action in the trailer above.
Characters like Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, and Loki have all been treated to a new premium skin you'll unlock on the paid tier of the Season 1 Battle Pass, with 10 fresh outfits to customise the roster with in total. Of course, the overall list of superheroes is also expanding this Friday with the introduction of the Fantastic Four. Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman will be available to play from tomorrow, and then the Human Torch and The Thing join in around six weeks.
Featuring double the amount of content as the Season 0 Battle Pass, it'll cost $10 to upgrade to the premium pass and unlock all its rewards by playing the game. Battle Passes in Marvel Rivals don't expire, so you can come back to it at a later date, and you'll earn back premium currency by levelling it up.
Fans have been reacting extremely positively to the new Season 1 reveals, as seen in Twitter responses:
If you also need a story setup for the release of a new season in a multiplayer game, here it is: "When Eternal Night descended upon New York, the Darkhold's pages were scattered across Manhattan. Now, the race is on to prevent its dark power from falling into the wrong hands. Join us in the battle in Marvel Rivals and help recover the lost pages!"

" Battle Passes in Marvel Rivals don't expire "
That's actually awesome. This should absolutely be the industry standard.
It's crazy to me that skins and cosmetics are something people pay for. Unless it's additional playable content such as maps, missions, vehicles, weapons, or whatever, I'm not paying a cent. I don't understand the appeal at all.
I miss when we unlocked characters and extras, for free, by just playing the game.
Poor Overwatch. It ruled the Hero shooter genre for years and now it's been crushed by it's ex.
@PorkChopExpress Totally agree.
My cheap butt will ensure that when I am playing something that is F2P...I am doubling down on that "F" part! 😂
@Steel76 It's a free-to-play game, and the development costs need to be covered somehow. Plus, servers aren't free either.
@matekomlosi
Ah okey. I missed that it was free to play.
As always, the art is absolutely on point, but I personally don't really care for this selection of skins much.
That's fine, though, still lots to keep me occupied here before the next season.
@PorkChopExpress Its for the same reason people buy certain clothes in real life.
@Steel76 The characters are free.
Yeah i plan on picking up the battle pass and the Malice Invincible Woman skin.
@DennisReynolds Well not really. People don't buy clothes in real life to not wear them and for them to only exist in a certain piece of software that quite probably no one they know IRL will ever see. Don't get me wrong, I do it too - but I'm just trying to look at it objectively. It's like buying someone else some clothes, and it's a person that doesn't exist IRL and you only see on your TV. So it's kind of the opposite.
I almost have enough currency for one skin just from playing so waiting for one that’s from the comics. Personally would love a Fraction/Aja Hawkeye skin.
It's taken long enough, but I'm finally comfortable in my own skin.
@Matroska People buy certain clothing to stand out and have their own personal style and its why we don't all wear the same thing, people by nature like looking different to each other and its why skins are popular in video games because it means people can stand out from each other while playing. Also this is a comic book game and people love having various looks for the heroes, its why Spider-Man 2 has over 60 skins to unlock.
@PorkChopExpress
But look at it this way, if something has to cost money... aren't cosmetics the best option? Weapons vehicles and maps can segregate the player base from the has and the has nots so I see this as the best thing to charge for, since it doesn't give any unfair advantages and some people...just wanna look cool. It makes more sense to me in a game like this or Fortnite where you can actually see your character.
@ATaco Of course. I was going to say something to that effect, but wanted to keep my comment relatively short. I'm just surprised that people spend so much on them that companies are able to sustain in this way. Then again, I'm the type of person that eats the exact same thing every week and wears my work uniform on my off days. Mostly. In this age of expression and individuality, both mean nothing to me. I'm just trying to get by.
@PorkChopExpress
I mean yeah, I'll let them spend on whatever they want if it means I get to play the game for free without anyone having an advantage over me.
