Rise of the Ronin will lose its PS5 exclusivity badge in a few months as Koei Tecmo has announced the open world title is being ported to PC on 11th March 2025. The new version will come with a lengthy list of exclusive features not found in the PS5 version, which was PS5 Pro enhanced.
Those PC-exclusive features include an 8K resolution, 120 frames-per-second, ultra-wide and super ultra-wide monitor support, DirectX 12 Ultimate support, and more.
While the game released to a lukewarm response from critics, Rise of the Ronin has gone on to become publisher Koei Tecmo's best-selling game ever, and has built up a nice little fanbase. In our Rise of the Ronin PS5 review, we awarded a 6/10 rating and shared praise for combat and Bonds systems, and the clash of Western and Eastern cultures.
"With dated open world design and a monotonous narrative, the cracking combat of a Team Ninja title is left to try and pick up the pieces," we concluded. "It manages to get the title in acceptable shape, and with its Bonds system and culture clash, just about forms an experience one could enjoy. Where it falls apart is the fact the open world is so intrinsically linked to all these features and mechanics that it's impossible to find pleasure in them for any respectable length of time."

Should come to ps extra before the end of the year I'm guessing.
So judging by this timeline, Stellar Blade is probably May (April is already confirmed to be TLoU 2) and then Astro Bot in June.
Super-ultrawide definitely gets my attention, way too many games support 21:9 but flat out don't work on 32:9 monitors.
£39.99 on Steam
£69.99 on PlayStation Store
And people still like to downplay the impact PC ports are making.
@truerbluer Haven't Sony themselves came out and said PC releases doesn't mean much difference in the larger scheme of things?
Still need to pick this up sometime.
I'll pick it up on PC sometime down the line. I think I'll be spending March playing Wilds so I won't get it on release lol
@Oram77 This isn't published by Sony on PC but the concern is the lack of price parity when the PC versions continue to release cheaper and the PS version remains full price.
The message being sent is if you wait a year, you'll get a superior version for much cheaper and instills buyers remorse for those who shelled out the full £70 for a worse version.
@Grumblevolcano It's doubtful Astro Bot will be ported to PC; there's just too many references to PlayStation hardware. Also, Dualsense features are integral to the experience, but Dualsense support on PC is still not on par with PS5. I mean, it's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.
@xDD90x PC port got discussed even before the game launched on PS5:
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/08/do-you-want-astro-bot-on-pc-creative-director-wants-to-know
So the question is when it'll come to PC rather than if it'll come to PC.
@truerbluer I thought PC games have always been cheaper to negate the costs of running a PC? Not arguing with you. I personally don't think Sony should put their single player games on PC, guess I'll be called a pony for that 🤷♂️
@Oram77 PC games traditionally had been cheaper before online marketplaces became popular because there were no licensing costs to publish on PC unlike consoles whose manufacturers take a 30% cut on all games, thus making console games more expensive.
However online marketplaces like Steam are no different than consoles and also demand a 30% cut so it makes no sense to see this egregious price disparity between PC and console releases anymore.
@truerbluer 'if you wait a year, you'll get a superior version for much cheaper' - That's the case for basically every game now anyway, even when staying on the same platform
@Grumblevolcano I watched that interview back when it was posted and just rewatched it. He was asked "Do you have a message for PC players who are eager to someday play Astro Bot", and his response was "well we want to hear from you... Absolutely, we want to hear from you". That's just about the most neutral answer he could have given, so I wouldn't read much into that. So the question is definitely not 'when' it will come to PC, but 'if' it will come.
Glad to hear! Not sure if anyone is playing 8k on pc but I’m glad pc players can finally play this one. It’s the kind of game I would only play on the ps5, but all the same I’m happy more can enjoy it. It’s not perfect at all but it’s special, as few games really do a decent job at cracking this kind of period in history.
Absolutely hated this game. Not something I say easily but felt it was so poor, looked terrible as well
One of those releases I think should have had a simultaneous release on PS5 and PC, where I think it will thrive. One of my few platinums from last year and I thought it was excellent, albeit rough around the edges.
@xDD90x If Returnal and Ratchet can get ported I don’t see why Astro is off the table.
@truerbluer But it has been 39.99 £ multiple times since Nov. And it will be again that price or even lower near PC launch.
@Shad361 Ratcher and Returnal didn't even achieve 10k peak players on Steam and Sackboy, probably the closest PS5 game to AB, had all time peak of whopping 610 players.
Even if Sony doesn't care about PS legacy or prestige, these games simply don't sell on PC:
@czDante92 yet they keep porting anyway lol
@czDante92
Quite a few PC ports of PS games as far I have heard have been terrible ports
As predicted, as Nioh 1 + 2 came to PC as well.
PS5 is really just another Xbox now since its games all come to PC too and released as the definitive version on PC.
@Shad361 Ratchet and Returnal are not themed on PlayStation hardware and history. Additionally, Sackboy and Lego Horizon are their poorest performing titles on PC, so perhaps Sony realizes that family friendly platformers don't appeal to the PC market and porting titles such as Demons Souls and Bloodborne would be better investments.
@truerbluer Also, do not forget that pc players do not buy a subscription to play multiplayer content.
@mountain_spider basically, this is exactly why I didn’t buy it. I tried the demo and let’s not sugarcoat it, it’s ugly. I know graphics aren’t everything, but if the reviews are to be believed, the story wasn’t all that impressive either. The whole thing just gives off a “meh” vibe. It’s a shame.
@matekomlosi interesting seeing people’s different takes. I loved it, and sunk over 200 hours into it. It definitely had moments of meh graphics but also moments that were gorgeous. Also it was so damn fun to play. It’s not perfect by any stretch but for me a solid 8/10.
Every single time i played a game that uses Katana Engine on PC, performance was very inconsistent, to say the least (with exception of Nioh 2). Guess you could say this is another "added feature" of their PC ports
Found it to be a blurry mess sadly. Worse than the previous Team Ninja game, whose name I forget, in fact seemed worse over all than said game and image quality far worse than Nioh 2 PS5.
Based on the 2 hour demo.
Welp I think that will be my last ps5 game. I have 10 ps5 games and at this point 7 of them have gone to pc (or xbox which is where I would have purchased if I had the same choice originally). . Since I purchase sony systems as exclusive boxes it looks like my best bet is to migrate back to PC. This solidifies that I won’t be getting a PS6 or Xbox successor. Just PC and Switch 2. Looks like I will have the same game access with less system spread. Will start saving for a GTX 5090.
