The Oblivion remake rumours just refuse to dissipate, and so it's starting to seem more and more likely that the project is real. Indeed, a whole new report is doing the rounds today, which says that this isn't just some graphical upgrade — it's a proper remake, with overhauled gameplay systems and mechanics.
This report stems from MP1st, who claim that a now-removed website of a former developer housed all kinds of information on the yet-to-be-announced revival.
This ex-Virtuos employee — Virtuos being the company that's supposedly behind the remake — apparently confirms that Oblivion has been "fully remade", and lists numerous reworked gameplay elements across combat and stealth.
We did find ourselves wondering whether this remake would actually retain Oblivion's poorly-aged mechanics, when the original game itself is almost 20 years old. We've got a strong nostalgia for Oblivion — it'll always go down as a classic — but it's incredibly rough by today's standards.
In particular, this new report suggests that actions like blocking, sneaking, and archery have been overhauled. Meanwhile, underlying damage calculations have been redone, and the addition of on-hit animations should make combat feel much more impactful. Sounds good to us.
Recent whispers have pointed towards an imminent reveal, so we'll just have to wait and see whether all of this turns out to be true. The real question is whether the remake will keep all of the original game's meme-worthy dialogue and voice acting.
What do you make of all this? Are you just waiting for announcement at this point, or are you still sceptical? Give us your stupidest-sounding battle cry in the comments section below.

Skyrim remake coming next…
Would’ve loved a remaster but a full remake is even better!
The only system I think needs an overhaul is the level-up system. I much prefer Skyrim's approach to Obvlivion's.
Just sort out the game breaking levelling and enemy scaling system and I’m all in.
A full on remake with gameplay improvements would be really cool. The original game is rough in places so this would be more then welcome.
And re-recorded voice acting that's more than 4-5 people?
I'm actually kind of worried now as there's room to mess it up.....plus I know this sounds dumb but OBLIVION's jank is apart of it's charm y'know. I REEEEEEALLY hope that if this is real it works out and is fantastic because OBLIVION is in my top 5 games of all time it's really important to me and I'd hate for it to get a bad remake which will be the only way to play it on current systems fingers crossed
@Keyblade-Dan I just got the original Oblivion on Xbox Series X.
Oh this is happening 100% but question is will it be timed on Xbox or come out same day on PS5 as well.
Hoping for a full on remaster with a great graphics upgrade and QOL improvements. The original has aged like a bad curry - only really playable these days on PC with a tonne of mods
Oblivion was interesting. The level scaling was terrible though and made some latter oblivion gates pure insanity if you play like me and level up a lot off the beaten path. I did collect a metric F*** ton of nirnroot though lol
@Keyblade-Dan I used to love taking Sean bean up to dive rock and pushing him off and crouch walking down the mountain. Sean only has one speed and so would knock himself unconscious but the ragdoll physics would mangle him in hilarious ways. Only for him to stand up and do it to himself again.. The long winter nights certainly flew by between 2006-2009 lol.
I actually think that most of the gameplay systems hold up really well and are better than Skyrim and other systems.
I will be extremely disappointed if I can't level my acrobatics to be able to jump over buildings again.
But to be fair, some systems can use a change/tweak and on hit animations would be good.
If it's just a remaster I'm not really interested even with the nostalgia I have for this game.
However if these rumors of more Remake changes are true I'm all in. Bethesda though,... their track record doesn't really support greenlighying a remake level of effort.
If not, Skyblivion should be released this year
This WOULD make things interesting again, but until there is nothing official I don't care.
Would love to see it.
@MasterChiefWiggum Hahah, I doubt it.. However I was expecting Morrowind to get a remake before Oblivion to be honest. Or Even Daggerfall (But that game would require be more like a complete reboot to make sense in todays gaming landscape)
However I am pretty hyped for an Oblivion remake. Hopefully also making it to more consoles than just Xbox. I have sold my gaming PC and currently I only own a MacBook mini, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. So I can't really play Skyblivion and it's not even done yet anyway.
Just like KOTOR I was more interested at the thought of a remaster than a remake. I want to play it again not play a new game set to the same slightly above average story.
Super excited for this. Especially because Starfield was awful and we're probably never getting another real Fallout game thanks to the control freak/spent force named Todd Howard
I hope we get it on PS5...but considering MS's recent stance, seems likely.
@KundaliniRising333 indeed. A remake is something I'd be more interested in but the ps5 remake of skyrim was a joke to be honest and the pc I built over 12 years ago still plays skyrim 100% better than the ps5's cynical cash in..looks massively better too with a load of mods enabled. I think Bethesda are massively over rated as devs now.
I'll be supporting the Skyblivion people first and foremost the amount of work they have done is amazing and they hope to aim for a 2025 release. This is just Bethesda trying to cash in quickly and ironically the same year the version I mentioned is hopefully coming, if anything that needs a remake or remaster it's Fallout New Vegas a complete overhaul with a new engine upgrade, to support more than 4GB RAM, corrupted save bug fixes all the fixes the fan patch did on Vortex/Nexus mods
@Northern_munkey I got Skyrim (GOTY edition at the time) on a flags sale on Steam in around 2013 for like £5 and to this day it still plays and looks better than any console version to date on my PC so I agree with you there. The modding scene is absolutely crazy as well
@Nakatomi_Uk 👍
@Keyblade-Dan unfortunately that jank won't appeal to the millions of people who only stayed with Skyrim. They have certain levels of tolerance, but it only goes so far.
loved this game got it for launch on the 360 i had never played anything like it before it really gave me that hit of next gen
Please release a PSVR2 version!!!!
Still got the PS3 disc (and a working PS3 - otherwise it'd be a coaster).
Oblivion was so much more fun to play that Skyrim. Creeping around in those Ayleid ruins and taking out a bandit with a bow was just great.
No love for Morrowind
@L_Bosch
Essentially came here to say that. Oblivion's leveling system was a nightmare.
I hope it doesn't use the awful levelling system from Skyrim.
The only system fixes required in Oblivion is stopping the abuse of the levelling system. The concept itself is fine.
