Developer Saber Interactive released Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in September. In the intervening months, it sold more than five million copies, making it the most successful of the many games set in any of Games Workshop's decades-old IP. However, it's not all peaches and roses. Publisher Focus Entertainment has released a statement addressing the grumblings of some players in the community, who say they are frustrated with the lack of post-launch content updates.
In a blog post (thanks, IGN), Focus reiterates that it's committed to supporting Space Marine 2 beyond 2025, reminding players that new PvP and PvE maps are on the way, in addition to Horde mode, a prestige ranking system, as well as violent new weapons, but all of this takes time. The post reads, in part: "Space Marine 2 has been out for four months, and your continued enthusiasm means the world to us. We’re not done with it! You can expect updates every two months. We’d love to do more, but we’re committed to delivering polished updates, which takes time and care! Thank you for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support."
Admittedly trained to consume video games differently, we can't help but feel like this is a pretty reasonable release cadence for what is primarily a cinematic single-player game, and that this is what happens when audiences come to expect live service support for any game with multiplayer capabilities. We had a wonderful time with the full-featured Space Marine 2 for review, and for weeks after, would dive into the odd co-op operation or multiplayer match. We suppose new players pick it up every day, and we'd be happy to fire it up again; more power to you if you never stopped and are still hungry for more.
Are you screaming out for new Space Marine 2 content? If you did pick it up at launch, when was the last time you booted up a multiplayer match? Please wait in the comments section below.

@PorkChopExpress The bigger problem is people blasting through hours of new content in one long session and then being upset there isn't more.
I've said this a million times before but Fortnite might be the worst thing to ever happen to Live services. The way it warped peoples expectations on updated content releases is bad.
Traditionally there would be maybe one major expansion and one or two minor events in a game per year. Now each season expects a major update.
Look at the surprise success of HD2. The need to suddenly scale up, realising the engine is outdated and suddenly needing to retain 100k+ players.
Some gamers are such whiners. Sabre gave a roadmap for content and they’re sticking to it. Plus, as the article mentions, this is not a GAAS.
There’s a substantial crossover in the PC player base of Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2. Just saying.
I’ve been playing a couple hours of SM2 almost daily since mid-November and I’m nowhere near unlocking and upgrading all the weapons, unlocking all the cosmetics, etc. I think the issue is the most engaged and hardcore fans are the ones that join the official discord server and sub the the Reddit, and they talk to one another and think that they are the whole community of players.
@PorkChopExpress could have easily been 40k. I'll show myself out
Does this game even have any live-service monetization elements? If it's just a single-player game with an MP component, I don't think anyone has the right to expect regular content updates, let alone demand them.
They should add Horde mode soon
Gamers hate live services until they dont. Then they want them
@Ainu20 for $70 dollars it better have a justifiable amount of content, and whats available on this game is the bare minimum
