It seems like those pre-update fears about Human Torch's devastating abilities may have been well founded; Marvel Rivals players, since the mid-season one update last week, have been scanning the skies nervously, fearing the inevitable aerial assault of the growing list of flying heroes.
It's only natural that new characters would get a lot of play. Still, increasingly annoyed players are reporting the formation of a new superhero triumvirate: the teaming up of Iron Man, Human Torch, and Storm, who, thanks to some newly added buffs, have begun to strike fear into their unfortunately landbound opponents.
Thankfully, with 37 Marvel superheroes to choose from now, counters exist for this aerial assault team. Serious players with a regular group can counter with an air force of their own; failing that, the community suggests using Hela, The Punisher, Star-Lord or a well-played Spider-Man as other effective counters.
Have you encountered this new superhero cohort of Iron Man, Human Torch and Storm? Have you found any handy counters? Keep an eye on the skies in the comments section below.

Hadn’t played Marvel Rivals in about two weeks, but booted it over the weekend and jeez I was surprised by how little people care to use team work in any capacity in the game. While the aerial teams are broken in some capacity, you’re just as likely to find a team that believes a full tank team no healers makes sense for them to win too. The lack of logic people use to play this game is its best feature,
@somnambulance I think it's cool that people just wanna play as their faves. I feel like the issue with OW was how reliant it became on overbalancing mechanics and heroes.
Johnny Storm is legitimately dreadful in any hands other than a one-trick. Thing too to an extent. Teamwork does seem to be borked recently though, a lot of downright stupid players ruining it for everyone else and I’m sitting in GM.
@breakneck I like that too. I used to get frustrated with how meta players had gotten in other online multiplayer games to the point that I didn’t have fun with those games anymore. When your skill level gets to a certain point, with all the skill based match-making, things get samey, but not with Marvel Rivals. No. In Marvel Rivals, you could get paired with all types of insanity. So many players that just pick a hero they like, even though they could die 30+ times in a match. The lack of team awareness in randoms is absolutely refreshing. If you have a full squad, you’re basically guaranteed to win every match you play, just about, as well. It’s such dumb fun.

@somnambulance Teamwork would be improved if Netease fully embraced the teamwork/team-up dynamics and didn't make them so limited.
Why do only very certain land-based characters get the ability to use Punisher's rope line? Why don't the Guardians characters ALL synergize with every other member? Why don't all projectile characters get some sort of offensive rebound-like attack when shooting their Cap's shield? Why does Cloak & Dagger's invisibility only work on like 2 characters? Why don't all tanks (and Magneto) have the ability to fastball special Wolverine? Why don't mutants all get some sort of "better together" or "X-gene" buff when working together? Why, as Punisher or Winter Soldier, can I not deploy/initiate my own infinite ammo reserve when working with Rocket, instead of relying on Rocket to decide when I need the boost?
If they made more characters synergize with each other, you'd have more opportunities for a variety of gameplay systems to link up. You wouldn't feel nearly as kneecapped when your team doesn't commit to what is currently an optimized roster and the other team goes full meta.
I love the game. I really do. But it baffles me how they have chosen to limit the character interactions so severely.
@MFTWrecks I agree. There should be far more synergies than currently available. I main Hulk and Magneto and they are both woefully under-powered. The fact that thing can do knock ups, knock backs and stuns more than Hulk is a joke. Hulks slap not doing an Aoe is a joke. Magneto only being able to use the blade when scarlet witch is on team is also silly that should be standard but with damage modifier when she is on team. He should also be able to fastball Wolverine at will.
Psylocke and Namor mains: Haha, easy picks. 😂
If the rest of the team focuses on the ground, the snipers can handle the flying units with ease.
