In news that should comfort fans of devastatingly bleak games, publisher Square Enix has confirmed a 15th-anniversary livestream for the phenomenal NieR series. Nearly eight long years have passed since the release of the cult-classic NieR: Automata; could it finally be time to learn what Yoko Taro has planned for us next?

On 19th April, fans will experience two and a half hours of existential dread waiting for an answer, with an anniversary event live-streamed for the world to see (thanks, Noisy Pixel). Luminaries such as the wonderfully weird creative director of the series, Yoko Taro himself, have been confirmed to be in attendance, along with producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, and Automata senior game designer Takahisa Taura.

Viewers can expect to be treated to a concert performance; Taro sporting his signature Emil-head mask is pretty much a given. Of course, there's nothing to suggest that a new game announcement will be forthcoming. Still, considering Automata appears to be finally slowing down, having passed an impressive nine million copies sold, it's about time we saw a new entry in the series.
