We’ve been writing about soccer slice of life Despelote for several years now, but its visual style remains as striking as the first time we saw it.

To create its unique look, the developer’s used grainy photographs of Ecuador, and paired them with hand-drawn characters. While potentially head ache inducing, we’ve never seen anything quite like it.

By the way, this is a first-person game where you’re tasked with kicking balls and bottles around the streets. It’s described as a “bittersweet and sometimes dreamy semi-autobiographical tale of youth”.

While we’re still a little unclear on the actual goals [Groan – Ed] of the game, it sounds like you’re free to explore the world at your own pace, and interact with the various people who live there. Interesting stuff.

The game finally has a release date, too: 1st May on PS5 and PS4. There’s no price just yet, but is this something you’re willing to take a punt on? Let us know in the comments section below.
