Tides of Annihilation might have been the biggest genuine PlayStation surprise of Sony's recent State of Play, and according to our own essential Push Square polling, it has since proved to be its most popular. New details have emerged, and the promising new IP from developer Eclipse Glow Games, based in Chengdu, China, has us eagerly anticipating its likely 2026 release.
A fascinating blend of modern elements and classic Arthurian myth, players inhabit the armoured boots of Gwendolyn, the sole survivor of an Outworld invasion, who can call upon the fearsome might of the legendary Knights of the Round Table in battle. Outlet Wccftech participated in a roundtable Q&A with the developers back at Gamescom 2024 and managed to sit on some juicy info for all this time.
Eclipse Glow confirmed that there will be four different weapons for players to master and reiterated that combat is "definitely more like Devil May Cry", which should comfort those starting to get over every other game pulling from FromSoftware's Soulslike formula. We know of at least three implements of destruction: bows, fists, and swords. Eclipse's representative said: "Sorry, I forgot the fourth one!"
Further, players can look forward to more than 30 hours of gameplay for the average playthrough, and on the essential subject of boss encounters, there are "over 30, each with their own abilities".
Finally, in a fascinating aside (at least, we think so), it appears that Tides of Annihilation is an explicit attempt to capture the hearts and minds of Western gamers by Chinese mega-publisher Tencent; this is phase two, having already successfully served Eastern audiences with the hugely popular Black Myth: Wukong. Asked why such an explicitly Western setting was chosen, Eclipse Glow said to Wccftech:
"Here's some context. This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set for these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends. This project originated when the producer came up with the concept surrounding knights, and then we connected with the Knights of the Round Table from Arthurian myths. The reason we reached out to you guys at this early stage is that the target audience is Western, and this is our first title. So we want to, you know, gather as much feedback as we can to improve the game for the final version."

Don't target the "Western audience" too much 😉
Game looks great. It’s a blessing we have eastern devs stepping up while western devs destroy themselves
I'm a sucker for all things knight related, so this is up my alley. I'm also a huge fan of the King Arthur mythos/lore, so when I heard this was taking inspiration from those stories, I was one million percent one board!

I can't wait for this game. Looks so good!
@Reform How can you not target a modern audience? Do Chinese devs target people born in 1745?
I'm really looking forwards to this. I'm really looking forwards to kazan next month too as I loved the demo. I need more games like this.
Targeting a western audience sounds very alarming.
@nessisonett
I think he was using a kind euphemism

@Reform I’m sure @get2sammyb can confirm that unless what you’re meaning to say is a thinly-veiled attack on minorities then any such comment would be left well alone. But that couldn’t possibly be the case, right?
30 hours of playing time is pretty long for character action games.
Any type of pure, over the top character-action is going to get me interested. Of course more info about the story is still needed and a demo would definitely be nice. This is a new IP and not enough was shown for it to shoot to the top of my most-wanted list with known quantities such as Ninja Gaiden, Monster Hunter and Like a Dragon.
I didn't really like the art? It's kinda similar to an issue I had with Stellar Blade (an 8/10 for the combat). It is all pretty without any actual "design" or "style".
This is something I think Clair Obscur, Metal Eden and Hell is Us had.
The more I hear and see about this game the more interested I get. The long wait until (presumably) 2026 will be hard for this one.
I can only stomach so many Action-RPGs a year. I'll see when the mood strikes, but the game looks fun so far.
Game looks fantastic, I’m guessing it’s a 2026 release. Cant wait to see more
@Northern_munkey that demo was pretty hefty and definitely wanted more after competing it. Ran pretty sweet on handheld PC also!
@PuppetMaster Play time imo implies with side content.
@Gamer83 did you check out the 11 minute gameplay the day after reveal?
Other than the iffy voice acting this looked FIRE. Love the setting and vibe, and combat looked more action (DMC) than strategy (Souls). One of the highlights of the State of Play.
@PCPS4XB yeah possibly with secrets or collectibles that requires multiple playthrough
For sure the game that caught more of my atention. people should be more enthusiast with a game like this. I will play it for sure!!
I thought that was Melina from elden ring😅😅
@ATaco exactly! The reason I loved wukong so much is because of the Chinese legend setting and lore.
@PCPS4XB
Didn't know they had one. Gotta be honest, been busy at work so haven't checked as much gaming news as I usually do.
Yeah I hear ya! I was a bit late on it also but it was definitely a nice video that got me more interested.
@Dodoo I think you completely missed ATaco’s point. But that’s a good thing. Because you likely don’t think like he does.
As long as this is not another Souls like game, then I am all in when it comes out. I am sick of all the beautiful and fun looking games that come out but I will never play them because they are Souls like.
@AhmadSumadi oops was having a blonde moment 😂
East have to make a game for westerners because they've seen all the flops and feel bad, they saw the likes of Indiana jones, dustborn, suicide squad, failguard , concord and see people in need of actual decent games that feel like games and not lectures with outdated mechanics and help systems that treat people like children for example that disgrace to dead rising demaster.
@JustinTimberlake I thought Indiana Jones was pretty well received?
@PCPS4XB indeed it was quite generous for a demo. The ps5 version has a few dips here and there but nothing too distracting so I'm eagerly awaiting kazan March release.
@Northern_munkey agreed, I've tried it on the Pro and it was flawless. But due to my backlog, Khazan will mostly be played on my ROG Ally on my looooong breaks at work lol.
This is Givin some nice ff16 vibes especially the character who transforms into a Phoenix
4 weapon types, what is this Bayonetta/God of War of old design. I mean sure.... if they are scaled well fine like Darksiders 1 leveling it up the whole adventure.
Setting is fine, to me the game design has to land or I don't care what mythology, angels and demons, King Arthur, whatever or otherwise it's about. The game has to land and DMC5/Bayonetta 3 dual characters controlled like garbage let alone 3's ideas were so boring. Besides the 2D other character parts which were better. It was like preferring Clank to Ratchet the side areas were better then the main characters/more going on parts of these games. That's not a good thing.
I enjoy hack n slashes but they have to balance their weapons/enemies as that's the core of the game and it's noticeable, very noticeable. That and level design that's overdone but in a satisfying way to be silly/epic.
30 hours eh. I prefer 20, less filler. More bosses, eh they better not be mini bosses or bland attack patterns or filler with so few enemy types I hate that.
