Hello Games has announced and released its latest free update to the ever-evolving No Man's Sky.
The Relics update, available today to all players as part of the latest patch, adds palaeontology to the sci-fi game's long list of activities.
Planets will now feature skeletal treasures buried beneath the surface, and if you dig them up, you can display them proudly in your base and construct your very own museum.
You can assemble these alien creature skeletons however you want, and with a huge variety in all shapes, sizes, and rarity, players will no doubt gather truly unique collections.
A new specialist trader has been added to Space Stations allowing you to buy new bones rather than dig them up yourself.
On top of this new feature, a few new enemies have been thrown into the mix. Guardians of prehistoric relics like the Stone Ghost and Stone Golem will protect the treasure, and there are new, skeletal versions of existing creatures to discover as well.
A community expedition has also been added to get players introduced to all these new mechanics.
Relics is one of the smaller updates to No Man's Sky, but even so, it seemingly provides dedicated players yet another way to play the unbelievably broad exploration game.

This game is why I've never finished Starfield. I think 'I wonder what's new in No Man's Sky?' then go straight back to NMS. I bought it twice just because I felt like I was ripping off the Devs by enjoying years of free content.
The game that keeps on giving.
I just recently got into NMS and it already felt like there was so much to do. This is awesome and I look forward to dipping back in and out of it throughout the year as I complete my first journey
I'm not saying it was aliens but ...
I’ve gone from being really impressed with how they’ve added to the game to just wishing they had worked on a sequel instead. This has gotten into the realms of being almost a live service game. I’d be willing to pay for a completely new adventure.
@GirlVersusGame I played a little bit (an hour) of No Mans Sky a month ago but was kinda bored when does it give you more freedom and get more interesting because of the updates?
@GoatFace04 Oh yeah they added all kinds of enemies, mechanics, community events, loot, quests etc. The game really begins once you finish the story then join the social hub. Over the years I've settled on different discovered planets then built bases on there with different players. Someone discovered one that was a very Earth-like, posted the coordinates on reddit and within about 24hrs there was maybe 50 of us on there building and exploring. It's a lot like Monster Hunter in that the game really begins once the story is complete. There's reddit groups for ships too, there's so many ship types that people post coordinates for different downed or spawned ships, it's how I got most of my favorites ones. Then there's the giant freighters too, they've updated those so much now that you can live/build on one. I'd push through the story then try some quests/events. Expeditions are the main community event, that's where you see the most players doing challenges/etc for the different/new loot.
@GirlVersusGame Thanks for responding when I feel up to it I might go speedrunner mode
