Ukrainian developer FrogWares has used crowd funding to powerful effect once already, and it’s turning to the platform again with The Sinking City 2.
As was the case with remake Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, it’ll be using the funds to help get its sequel finished, and it looks like it’ll have a big development update to share later this week.
The Kickstarter will launch on 6th March, and the studio’s promising it’s “going to be huge, with awesome pledge rewards, special community events, and plenty of surprises along the way”.
One thing it has confirmed is that there’ll be physical Limited Edition and Collector’s Edition versions of the game, and they’ll be Kickstarter exclusives, it seems.
The original The Sinking City was a fascinating game – a kind of open world detective game with strong Cthulhu influences. “There's a great and engaging detective game buried here,” we wrote in our review of the PS5 port.
If you didn’t know, the first game famously found itself embroiled in a very messy legal spat with publisher Nacon. The Ukrainian studio ultimately won the case, and was granted sole publishing rights to the release across all platforms. Needless to say, it’s self-publishing the sequel.

FINALLY! I've been on the notification list for this since they announced the game. I love the first game. In no way is it a mechanically great game, but the Lovecraftian vibes are second to none and it's clear that FrogWares has serious love and respect for the source material. The fact that they're leaning even more into horror this time around is even better.
SIGN. ME. UP.
Great man I loved the classic noir vibes with this n all. It was stylin no powerhouse and janky pos tbh but great atmos, intrigued what a sequel might bring
Great game, tons of charm, backstabbing and exploration. Mind the flooded streets though.
Enjoyed the first one for its lovely atmosphere, but hope they can improve the fighting/action and make the city a bit more varied this time.
