Is Forza Horizon 5’s price too high? While approximately 40% of you said so in our Push Square poll, it’s certainly not hurting pre-orders of the PS5 port, which is due out on 29th April.
A quick look at the PS Store shows Playground Games’ open world racer right at the top of the pre-order charts all around the world.
In the UK, the Premium Edition – which includes Early Access and all DLC – is in first place, while the Standard Edition is in third and Deluxe Edition is in eighth. It’s trending ahead of huge upcoming games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The US follows a similar order, with the Premium Edition in third position, Standard Edition in fourth position, and Deluxe Edition in 13th.
Look at the PS Store all around Europe and you’ll see similar trends, with the game occupying the top spot in countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and more.
To be fair, the pre-orders only went live earlier this week, so this flurry of activity may be reflecting that. However, we expect this game to sell outstandingly well to the core PlayStation fanbase, particularly in Europe. It’s just a shame there’s no physical release planned.
What’s most interesting here is that most people are plumping up for the Premium Edition, which is the most expensive option. It seems that four days early access, even for a game that’s already four years old, is a compelling upsell incentive.
Regardless, just how many copies of Forza Horizon 5 do you expect to be sold on the PS5? It’s looking like a lot.

I’ll give it a whirl when it’s on sale
While it’s definitely a shame there’s no physical edition, I’ll definitely be grabbing Forza Horizon 5 day one. At over 110 hours, it was my most played game on Series X before I sold the console last year, and I can’t wait to rebuy it on PS5 and go through the whole game again. Honestly, I can’t recommend it enough.
@Mikey856 I'm gonna wait also. This looks like the base game without the Hot Wheels DLC. Which I did enjoy on FH3.
I really don’t get people buying the premium version. 4 days for what $40 extra. Wow, but to each their own i guess
@LogicStrikesAgain You do get all the DLC as well to be fair. But I agree.
@get2sammyb Oh, i didn’t even realize that, silly me. That actually does make it much more understandable. My bad, i’m too hungover to have properly read the article 🙃
A bit off topic maybe, but i wonder if these first party Xbox titles would ever go to PS Plus?
I would've preferred physical and still prefer FH4, but with Microsoft, it is what it is. I'll wait for the 'we all know its coming price drop' and pick it up then.
@get2sammyb Re your comment - It seems that four days early access, even for a game that’s already four years old, is a compelling upsell incentive.
I think you would find the reason is actually to get the two expansion packs being the main reason to purchase the Premium edition, these plus the car pass. The 4 day advance is just the topping but hardly the main reason.
@LogicStrikesAgain Bethesda are still putting games onto Playstation plus so the chances of Microsoft doing the same are high. Pretty sure they put Minecraft Dungeons onto Playstation Plus as well.
Thinking about it some more, if people are willing to spend $100 for a game. What would stop Rockstar from asking $100 for GTA6? I bet that game has more content than this game, even with all of the DLC included
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah you’re right, fair point. However those were all former multiplat titles i think right? I wonder if these exclusive first party titles would be any different? But yeah, seeing as they’re releasing the games for Playstation, i guess MS would probably also allow it to be on PS Plus
@LogicStrikesAgain GTA 6 is definitely going to upsell “early access” and will sell 10s of millions of copies at the inflated fee.
@LogicStrikesAgain I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Sony has to pay for those so if Microsoft thinks that’s beneficial they’ll do it.
Considering how marginalised driving games have become in the last ten years and longer I wonder whether all the interest is more curiosity about it being a well known Xbox game rather than a change in tastes.
@Brundleflies21 probably still in that phase of curiousity. PS games had the same thing on steam at first but now sales have cratered there in comparison to how they forst sold. This being being one of the 3 xbox pillars gonna make people curious
It's funny how the format wars go as there's a lot of formerly 'bleed green' Xbox extremists saying this is great news as it means Microsoft is getting more money!
The high preorders is a strong sign that Halo:MCC is coming this year.
Bought the original premium edition and have pre ordered the premium edition again. Fantastic fun racer, and I'm very happy to support Playground Games 😀 Got high hopes for Fable too.
Well worth £100 for all the content and longevity.
@get2sammyb I think it's the DLC included that does it for me. Not here for a game I played at launch, but when Indy came out last year, I wanted the DLC, so got the premium Upgrade. The Slightly Early Access being purely a nice bonus.
I hope they don't do it for new Halo or Gears though. Those are storied fans genuinely don't want spoiled if they can help it by people with EA plastering the endings all over social media.
Has anyone, who has already played this, played with a wheel? Can you remove the hands and wheel from cockpit view?
Thing is if this sells well expect to see avowed hellblade 2 and south of midnight announced for this year
@Lysterao Yeah, I suspect most pre orders are for the complete edition, rather than the early access.
Early access can be an issue though for narrative games. I'm not on any social media sites like X, FB etc, but even perusing sites like this can spoil with the thumbnails.
@Dan12836666 Lol, already has mate 😀
Ive put hundreds of hours into this on xbox and am looking forward to buying it again on ps5. Will easily be the best racer on the platform.
@The_Pixel_King I much preferred Horizon 4.
Is this still fun as a singleplayer free roam game? My young son likes racing games where he just can drive wherever he want, without really competing with the AI, if that makes sense.
Own it on my Series S but yeah i pre-ordered the most expensive version for PS5 because its that good and i get far better visuals then my SS version.
@ThaBEN You can just mess with the open world for the most part after a few races to get you started. The accessibility options also really good so you can make it extremely easy if you want.
In Poland also whole podium 1-3 place occupied by Forza- Standard, Premium and Deluxe respectively
So it's obviously not priced too high then is it 🤣 Can't really beat going to the top of the preorders....
Sad that you can not buy a physical version. Digital only versions are not real. Woe unto me, the end of PlayStation is nigh.
@JohnKarnes agreed, it's a shame there isn't a physical version.so in that case I will miss out.
Dirt 5 and the crew are probably enough to scratch my racing itch but if this comes to physical or a big digital sale I might bite.
@Dodoo Forza is much better than those. Actually they changed their series to "copy" the Forza Horizon formula
Genuinely great game even for non-racing fans. Lots of fun and the rewind mechanic makes it all very forgiving.
I'm sure this will sell by the bucket load at full price and a tonne more on sale down the line and I'm almost certain Xbox are ready to give up on physical all together by next gen - they aren't doing proper physical releases on Xbox let alone anywhere else.
Xbox being an all digital, 3rd party publisher for PS is not what I foresaw at the start of this gen.
@DennisReynolds
Thanks for clarification! I guess I'll have to buy it now. Shame that the Universal Icons Car pack is not included in any of the editions. I need those BTTF Deloreans!
I'll pick up 5 at some point. I played the heck out of Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox One. It was one of Xbox's trump cards against Playstation as Sony never really had an arcade racer to compete. I'd love for Polyphony to release an arcadey version of Gran Turismo.
Gamers in need of an arcade(y) Racer. What a surprise. Take note Burnclub!
I wonder if any Microsoft releases on the Playstation would eventually end up on PS+?
@theSpectre I agree, i am sure the last arcade style game from Polyphony was Gran Turismo 2? One disc was GT Mode and the other was Arcade Mode.
@termiki To be fair, Forza copied Burnout Paradise.
@Michael2008ish I've not heard anything on avowed or south of midnight yet but there's been rumours about hellblade 2 coming to the ps5 soon though fingers crossed.
I'll get the premium edition when it goes on sale, $100 for what will soon be a 4 year old game a bit too high imo.
@Michael2008ish They are two completely different games; the only thing they have in common is being open-world. It's like saying Ghost of Tsushima copies Skyrim.
On the other hand, The Crew Motorfest is indeed a Forza Horizon clone.
Say what you want about PS players, we do buy games lol
I wonder if they will bother porting motorsport considering the elephant in the room
@stBoa Yes, there is a view in cockpit with no wheel or hands.
@IOI Well there really isn't any other choice on PS5, you get them at No extra cost on Ultimate Gamepass so it wouldn't make sense to buy them separately.
@RagnarLothbrok “ PS games had the same thing on steam at first but now sales have cratered there in comparison to how they forst sold”
And at no one else fault but Sony’s own. They burnt that PC bridge. It has nothing about the lack of curiosity. As long as Microsoft don’t burn any bridges with PlayStation players… Their games will continue to sell.
Is this a good racing game in single player? Never play online, too unsocial.
@Lukewarm that's good news! Thanks
@Rog-X went you asking just the other day why people troll on PX and you are here trying the exact same thing.
Not my sort of game at all, but good to see it's having a solid start. More sales means more cash for the studios. Also these successes will just mean more and more games transition over once they get a taste of the extra income.
@Ilyn nice response 😀
@termiki oh c'mon, it so copied that.

Hmm...Premium fifth, standard ninth, deluxe still on page one (all as of this writing), and this coming from a region known to be very hostile to the Xbox brand...
@Rog-X Paying top dollar for day one is also just Xbox's early access scam that they do on all their games these days.
I will still buy this for the PS5 Pro though in a sale since we are getting a superior version.
I will only purchase this game if it gets a physical release. Period.
@MrMagic For the DLC, not early access.
@Mikey856 They might but I doubt it. It’s just not as good as GT7.
@get2sammyb Apples and pears. Very different games.
@termiki yeah I realise that. I played the old forzas and PGR on the OG Xbox and 360. It’s just I’m not massive on racing games so dirt and the crew will probably do for me unless the price of forza comes down so much I can’t refuse!
Love racing/driving games but cant at all justify fh5 especially with no physical release,I'll stick with the awesome gt7,grid legends,acc etc,I'm sure it'll be a fun game but I really tend to much prefer circuits racers
@get2sammyb yes for sure! Not even in the same league really. Have you played GT7 on VR but on the PRO specifically?. There’s an option now that cleans up the res to what I would described as near 4k it’s absolutely stunning. It needs to be switched on in options though and specific to PRO
D1 obviously, premium edition.
@yrebud Everything except the events can be played in single player. That's more than 100 hours of content.
@Mikey856 I don't think they will port Forza Motorsport, since it's pretty similar to Gran Turismo.
@termiki and nowhere near as good let’s be honest
