SEGA's plans for its financial year 2025 have been outlined in its latest earnings call, and in a nutshell, the publisher is planning fewer game releases and investment in its core studios.
When asked about its plans for FY25, which for SEGA is April 2025 to March 2026, SEGA revealed it will be launching a smaller number of titles overall.
Currently, the publisher has announced Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for 2025, as well as Project Century, which currently has no date. New games in the Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage series are also in the works, though little is known about them so far.
SEGA has said it will be making further investments and hiring more staff in Atlus, Sonic Team, and RGG Studio, makers of Persona, Sonic, and Like a Dragon respectively.
"Atlus is an important studio for us to expand Japanese IPs overseas and we think it is necessary to strengthen it, and the studios involved in the Sonic and Like a Dragon IPs are also short of staff, and we are looking to reinforce personnel through additional hiring and [mergers and acquisitions]," the publisher said.
So, it's set to be a quieter year for SEGA as it hunkers down and bolsters its key studios. The company's president has previously said it's been contemplating a subscription service of some kind, so it'll be interesting to see if that comes to fruition as well.

More like a dragon please. Can’t get enough!
Persona is OK but Golden was still the benchmark.
Don’t think I’ve played a Sonic game since I had a mega drive. At least nothing that stuck with me.
All I really care about from SEGA is more Persona and more Yakuza so sure keep growing
If this means Persona 6 and the next Like a Dragon come sooner, then I’m all for it!
As much as I like Sonic and Like a Dragon, I'm most interested in those classic SEGA revivals they've got planned. I hope they're not going to fall to the wayside if these franchises are their focus.
Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are by far my most anticipated upcoming games from them, and Virtua Fighter is pretty high on the list too.
I'd love to see Space Channel 5 make a comeback at some point, but one step at a time!
This makes me happy they've always had a bad habit these last 2 decades of launching Sonic games before they're ready take your damn time 😅
Like a Dragon deserves a break for a few years. RGG should prioritize Virtua Fighter and (especially) Project Century before LAD9 comes out.
Sonic games ok
So focusing on the same three series they always does?
How many Like a Dragon games can you put out before it becomes another Guitar Hero/Rock Band situation?
Just release a Skies of Arcadia remaster and I'll be happy.
@get2sammyb I’m all for buying the outrun port they did for the switch. It tops the straight arcade port @ 60fps. I love to buy that for the PS, just to leave the music blasting out and me of the arcade days 😃
Makes sense, as I said in the other article, do Sonic Adventure 1 + 2 remake and you'll make the BIG $$$, trust.
I think Sega is in a really good place right now with the stuff they still have for the future, so them taking a lighter year to build up their teams is very good. They could very well also use this to buy up another studio if they desired, which in that case I hope Sega would get LizardCube if Shinobi is successful, because they just don't stop making bangers and would probably be a greta asset for Sega to make smaller titles
Considering I have bought at least one Sega published game every single year for almost a decade...I guess they've earned a break. 😄
Though for a quiet year they still got a pretty decent lineup for the year!
@thefourfoldroot1 Consider Sonic X Shadow Generations sometime. Shockingly good given Sonic Team's track record of getting rushed into crappy releases (except Frontiers. I kinda liked that).
Cmon Sega you have more franchises than Sonic and Persona ! How about raiding those AM2 and 3 titles 😀
All I read was something about Skies of Arcadia.
Like a dragon should dial down the craziness and keep it mostly for the side quests otherwise people will stop caring about it, once the meme buzz starts wearing off.
I do like the current run of Sonic games, but we’re running low on solid ones to port. Personally, I’ve got no interest in Like a Dragon or Persona, but at least they’re reviving some older games to keep me interested in the brand. Looking forward to Shinobi this year if nothing else comes from Sega.
@tameshiyaku Nah man am loving the pirate yakuza 🎵 we are the gozo pirates🎵 😀😀
Oh man, I really look forward to the revivals of the old IPs. I already preordered shinobi! I would love if they also reintroduced their classic games that they delisted while remembering that arcade, master system and dreamcast also exist. Even though what I would reallllly like is the return of Outrun and Skies of Arcadia.
They have an incredible last year in game releases there good they could use a slowdown 😅
I wish SEGA would give us a Skies of Arcadia Remake and a new game.
@Jrs1 glad you enjoy it. For me the story of the Kiryu games are the beating heart of the series. Hope it steers back to that or else I'll have to place my hopes on project century and judgment if that continues.
@tameshiyaku To be honest i got it cos i love AC Black Flag and also to play Daytona 2 😉 Then discovered the combat is so fast and fluid in this game its superb 👍
I'm tired of Persona and Yakuza. So give me the new Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and VF.
@Jrs1 haven't played black flag but I heard they're considering a remake.
@tameshiyaku Yeah hope to hear something soon (if ubi are still in business)
Persona 6 when?
