Oh Hollow Knight: Silksong, never change. The elusive, ethereal successor to Hollow Knight couldn't possibly live up to the hype that has been built around the atmospheric, Souls-inspired platformer at this stage. Nevertheless, the game has received some small piece of official recognition, and we are duty-bound to inform you.
On Xbox Wire, ID@Xbox director Guy Richards gave the game the briefest of nods (thanks, IGN) in a post detailing how the publisher has paid out over $5 billion to independent devs throughout the program. This largesse has resulted in games like Balatro and Phasmophobia coming to market and is presumably being used to fund Team Cherry's ongoing, lavish Australian lifestyle in some sense or another. The post reads:
"Looking ahead, our lineup is incredible with upcoming games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Descenders Next, and FBC: Firebreak to play across the whole Xbox universe… and of course Hollow Knight: Silksong too!"
The Hollow Knight community, long used to this kind of chicanery, have been cracking jokes and commiserating ever since. Will Silksong ever see the light of day? We imagine so, but the suffering must continue for some time yet.
Do you think Silksong will live up to the hype? Do you expect to see it emerge this year or even next? Burrow deep into the comforting warmth of the comments section below.

The whole development feels like scope creep, indie devs should not be taking 5 years to get a game out. I have to admit as of this point I'm uninterested in it until I see a release date.
Ha! That's a good one, Push Square! You and your early April Fools jokes! I know better I know for sure that this game is never going to release.
Your new full screen ads they make my screen jump around are pissing me off.
@breakneck that’s how I feel about GTA six right now. I have zero hype but I’ll buy it whenever it releases, but I also would not care if it got delayed for two more years. I really don’t care if it got canceled.
The meme continues on...

MANY great indie games take longer than this to come out. The amazing Animal Well for example took 7 years. Shovel Knight 6 years. The main difference with Silksong is they announced it basically before it was started, whereas usually we don't hear about games until they are almost ready.
It would be easy to say why did they announce it so early, but they kinda HAD to because it was originally a stretch goal DLC for the original game's Kickstarter. They had to tell backers why that DLC wasn't coming, and it was because they were turning into a whole game. Which they are also giving to Hollow Knight 1 backers for free.
Game Development isn't a straight line. You may get to a point after a year or two, realise your core gameplay loop isn't fun enough, or the game just isn't quite coming together, and you have a choice to reboot all or some of it, iterate and improve, or cancel and move on to another project. Game dev is hard.
@themightyant For Animal Well it's a solo devs first project but studios like Playdead or Team Cherry shouldn't be taking this long. Especially when in Team Cherry's case they already had a plan but clearly have kept on adding and adding (won't be surprised if they even scrapped it and restarted it once or twice).
It isn't healthy development. In the AAA or indie development.
@breakneck Scraping and restarting IS healthy development, that iterations of ideas, throwing them out and trying again, throwing them out and trying again, is EXACTLY how you make great games. Very rare to land on a winning formula from the start.
They are a tiny studio of (mostly) 3 devs with the weight of expectation on their shoulders, in many ways that's harder than the first game. In music they call it "second album syndrome", in literature "the difficult second novel". If you've had a hit is VERY difficult to come out and back that up second time. Most don't.
@breakneck Super Mario Wonder took just under 5 years and it probably had around 20x the staff count of Team Cherry.
Ultimately it’s the creative processes that define the dev time, not things like creating millions of high res assets( you can man hour these tasks, you can’t effectively man hour creativity)
I've never seen a sequel for such a mediocre game have so much hype around it. It feels like a meme at this point.
Hollow knight silksong is taking its sweet time.im still playing hollow knight voidheart edition. It's a really good game. Word up son
It's coming 😎 lets go 🤡 time
@OmegaStriver "Your new full screen ads they make my screen jump around are pissing me off."
Is it making it so you can't read the comments but then when you can you can't see the Reply box to write one, but then when you do start to write it covers your box so you can't finish? It was doing that to me for like 3 days, so freaking annoying. I got so annoyed, and my PC got hacked, that I switched browsers to Brave. It works great now. Oh except I can't watch YT videos, but it's a worthwhile trade-off.
We shouldn't have to change browsers though, they should fix it. Unless they are just trying to get us all to pay.🤑
@themightyant "Which they are also giving to Hollow Knight 1 backers for free."
Oh well that explains it, they're waiting for those people to die off before they release it so they don't have to give it to them for free. Also why I never give money to a kickstarter, that's what Shark Tank is for. 😂
When we do get an official release date for Silksong, it won't even feel real
I really feel like it’s going to appear at the switch 2 direct.
What will come first-this or Beyond Good and Evil 2?
@rjejr I only get on the Internet by phone anymore and I’m aware of the problem you’re mentioning, but this one is when I’m trying to read an article and I scroll down and one of those embedded ads are there the size of it is changed to wear. It wants to go full screen, and so it’s constantly trying to scroll up and down.
I’ve been using this site for years and never had that type of problem, if those types of ads stay, it will definitely reduce my visits here.
