PlayStation executive Phil Rosenborg is leaving the company after 20 years.
The suit, who will retain his post until the end of 2025, currently serves as the SVP of Global Partner Development and Relations, meaning he’s a big deal when it comes to signing new titles and making sure PS5 attracts all of the biggest games.
And in an interview with the SIE Blog reflecting on his tenure, he pointed out that Sony’s Content Ventures team – led by Christian Svensson and Shawne Benson – is the best in the world at both finding hidden gems and nurturing up-and-coming studios.
He explained: “[The team worked with] Annapurna Games very early on with games like Stray. The same approach also led to our support of Genshin Impact, Black Myth: Wukong, and Stellar Blade for example.”
The fact that Rosenborg is name dropping some of the biggest titles on the planet here speaks volume.
Genshin Impact, and HoYoverse’s various other releases, have gone on to become cultural cornerstones. Black Myth: Wukong was one of 2024’s best-selling games. And Stellar Blade is a genuine fan favourite.
“We are spending a lot of time right now in expanding our global markets,” Rosenborg said, pointing to recent initiatives like China Hero Project, India Hero Project, and the recently announced MENA Hero Project.
“There is so much creativity out there. Our thinking is that we can excite a community about PlayStation if that community participates in the building of it, mostly through helping creators bring their games to market.”
Rosenborg concluded that he believes the key to a successful PlayStation is managing its portfolio properly.
He explained: “Learning how to manage a portfolio and create room for multiple IPs which will reach multiple different types of gamers is really important.”

I read the headline and thought Sony was giving kudos to PushSquare. Which they should, because of the fine work you do combing through the sales to find worthwhile buys. So well done all around, I guess!
I hope that Shift Up made enough money from Stellar Blade (and will make even more from PC version) that they could develop abd and publish sequel on their own. I need to know what happens next!
I was under the impression that Shuhei Yoshida, a Japanese executive, founded Stellar Blade. Now that he's left, I'm unsure if Sony will remain the best at finding "hidden gems." Here's hoping, but I'm not very optimistic. 😕
rather than patting on the back for hidden gems maybe sort out the trash slop thats infesting the platform jumping bean turbo etc etc and all the other AI trash slop games
Keep up the great work and keep those gems coming.
yeah no.
maybe Sony 10 to 20 years ago
Literally nothing about a Wukong, Stellar Blade or Genshin (and co) is a gem in any way. They're the most generic mainstream thing possible.
Journey was
Team Ico was
No doubt, like Concord.
We've definitely gotten a good helping of interesting, unique games. Even if they aren't the multi-hundred-million-dollar "AAA campaign" titles that people here cry about not getting multiple times per day.
Try finding less gacha crap sony.
Damn. As always, y’all are some bitter a—— 🤬es!
The guy doesn't give credits to Shuhei Yoshida?
“We are great at finding games to keep off of Xbox!”.
@Amnesiac 🤣
Sony has done a good job in getting less known games to the public ear and even studio's first games.
How about Sony make their own hidden gems instead of relying on remasters and games that take a full lifetime to make. We supposed to be excited because 4 Chinese people promise games for ps5 for over a decade meanwhile Sony has the studios and the manpower to make new games but keep crapping out remakes. When a new game finally does release you find yourself not caring anymore.
@Jorogumo Sony already made plenty of hidden gems and as you can see those games doesn't sell to the point Sony just licensed the IP's out to Bandai Namco for remaster.
But before you pointed the finger to Sony, did you even bought their hidden gems? If not then you don't have any right to complaint about Sony had a collab with Chinese devs.
What, no mention of Rise of The Ronin... hahaha
@trev666 The detritus on PSN is utterly shocking.
