Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game is a cosy life sim set in J.R.R. Tolkien's immortal fantasy universe. It's obviously very different in tone from games like Shadow of War and, yes, precious, even the awful The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

In honour of Tolkien Reading Day, held every year on 25th March, which, as we all know, is the date the One Ring was cast into the fires of Mount Doom, destroying it forever, we got a lovely write-up over on the PlayStation Blog.

Tales of the Shire's gameplay is built on four pillars: cooking, gardening, fishing, and "peaceful activities." Players will ramble about the idyllic village of Bywater (located in the Shire's Westfarthing, near Hobbiton), building relationships with the various and renowned Hobbit families, such as the Tooks and Hornblowers (and Proudfeet!).

Shared meals are a way to expedite this process: players will need to find a recipe, either grow, forage for, or purchase the required ingredients, and then cook it to perfection by adding the precise ingredients, stirring it appropriately, and making sure not to overseason it. Your neighbours have their specific tastes, and you'll need to consider this, as well.
