Well deserved. Easily my Game of the Year. I really hope they see this as a tentpole franchise moving forward and we get a sequel in the not so distant future.
Ok I'm going to be real, but Hell Blade 2 got nominated in WAY too many categories, it was nothing more than a tech demo. Very happy to see Still wakes the deep finally get some recognition, the voice acting is extremely good, and Alec Newman needs to be in more games moving forward. Also Common Astro Bot W
It's ridiculous how many awards Astro Bot is getting, but I am all for it.
@Oram77 Its visuals are overrated as well. Yeah its pretty but the visuals are very static and lifeless.
Man, I'd love to see behind the scenes how SE is just crying because Rebirth was completely robed.😂
But Astro Bot definitely deserves it.
Still waiting for a decent sale on Astro Bot. I think it will be while but I have a huge backlog anyway.
I notice the tech demo won the technical achievement award.....
Well deserved and really wholesome seeing all those other games grab awards too. I hadn't even heard of 'Thank Goodness You're Here' - Thank Goodness You're Here! is an absurd comedy slapformer set in the bizarre Northern English town of Barnsworth. As a traveling salesman, take the time to see the sights and meet the locals, who are very eager to give you a series of increasingly odd jobs.
That sounds like regular Northern England. Like I'd expect to just be given a quest when really I'm just there to visit the birthplace of the Yorkshire Pudding.
Hellblade 2 deserved nothing , probably the most sleep inducing game I've ever played , hyped up crap, the ps1 dino tech demo had more gameplay than that absolute garbage , with regards to astro bot ,well deserved in all it's multitude award winning glory.
@hi_drnick I'm pretty sure he was talking about hellblade 2
@hi_drnick I have a sneaking suspicion yous twos are talking about different games.
@hi_drnick Look who i was replying too.
@DennisReynolds that's exactly why it couldn't hit 60fps. It's so visually exhausting all you could do is walk.and have scripted events. It was a massive disappointment to me. And no Xbox hate here. Been playing Avowed and Balatro a LOT lately
@KawakiisaFraud FF7 OG is my GOAT and the bullet sponge, mutating Dyne fight was enough to stop me in my tracks....which sucks. The characters are so, so we'll realized. But damn the bullet sponge fights just took everything out of it for me.
@DennisReynolds sorry, I can't see the comment of the person you're replying to.
I'm playing the game again to complete some levels. The game is such a joy to play
I almost feel bad for not liking Astro Bot as much as everyone else. Could have been a great platformer, but it is so ridiculously easy that pretty often I had a feeling that I was not playing a game, but an interactive commercial.
@Dalamar Have the same feelings about it. The whole thing feels so inconsequential.
@Nyne11Tyme Its why Horizon FW, Avatar, Alan Wake 2, Kingdom Come 2 and even AC Shadows are in my opinion better visually because they're doing far more visually and at 60fps or more. Hellblade 2 is jaw dropping at first and then you quickly start to notice at all the corners they needed to cut to get those visuals.
@hi_drnick Ah no worries. They were just talking about Hellblade 2.
Haven't fully finished the first Hellblade, but I've really enjoyed it so far. Read that the ending really didn't set up any kind of sequel, so the second game is kind of random in that regard.
Astro Bot FTW! ^^
@DennisReynolds agreed , you're basically confined to very pretty boxes , they got so wrapped up in the mental health aspects of the game, they forgot what's most important , fun, the first game was more important to that cause than the game itself , they're obviously talented , but let's have a game next time eh
Rightly so! It's also nice that Nintendo could be beaten in its own genre (3D platformer).
It's funny when looking back at Totoki statement from last year about PS would have a less busy or more quiet year compare to 2022/23 because they didn't release AAA games like GoW, TloU, or Spidey.
Turns out Astro Bot and Helldivers 2 became major games for Sony and exceeded beyond their highest expectations. Not just they sold well but both games are grabbing awards left and right like there's no tomorrow.
So kudos to Team Asobi and Arrowhead 👏
@Dalamar The majority of platformers never been hard / challenging because their target audiences are family especially kids. So you shouldn't expect Astro Bot will give you a sweaty palm like Elden Ring or Ninja Gaiden.
I'm not looking forward to Hellblade II releasing on PS5 just because I will have to see articles about it here 💔 the first one is the most boring game I've ever played and I'm sure 2 will be the second most boring game I haver ever played!
@Oram77 TBH it not surprising that it got over nominated. This award shows love these artsy games, and HellBlade is amazing achievement in terms of art… But because of that it a not a great “game”, and it will end up being something you play once just to experience.
I just hope the studio get the chance to make a 3rd and actually make a game this time.
@DonkeyFantasy " decent sale on Astro Bot."
Same. I want to play it, but I kind of have this "$2 per hour" limit on video games purchases, up from $1 b/c inflation and I really don't think this will take me more than 12 hours. I don't trophy hunt, one run thru and done.
And I feel fairly confident my library will have it at some point.
I'd probably pay $30 after hearing so many good things about it, just finished GoW R I got for $30 and just bought Visions of Mana for $30 I haven't started yet. That does seem to be my ceiling.
Except for Nintendo 1st party stuff, they don't drop.🤑
I get the ever so slight impression that people don't like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II? Could be wrong, though. If only they told us how they really feel.
@PuppetMaster Ratchet & Clank, Sly, Jak, Crash Bandicoot, were all challenging
even mario games are difficult- i’m probably in the minority but i swear i could never beat a single mario game & as a kid nearly cried because i couldn’t beat mario 3 , i even cracked my gameboy color. i’m in the process of trying to beat mario 64 on my switch and it’s rough.
Very much deserved foe Asobi and without sounding too pessimistic on Ninja Theory it was good that it wasn't lavished with accolades. HB2 was fundamentally flawed as a video game.
@nomither6 I only played and finished Ratchet remake and Crack in Time but i never feel they gave me serious challenge whatsoever. I never get the chance to try Sly Cooper but i played Jak 1 & 2 and Crash 1 & 4 and i think they're still in the average difficulty where a lot of casual players or even kids can beat the game without feeling stressful.
I don't know much about Mario games though. Only played Super Mario 1 and 3 decades ago but i remember the difficulty are okay for the most part.
Sure there's some exceptions like Mega Man, Ghost n' Goblins, or Oddworld for example which are really challenging even for experience players. But I still feel platformers like most of them or in general are not difficult.
@PuppetMaster there is no need for extreme, I didn't expect Astro to be Ninja Gaiden level of challenge, but I didn't expect it to be interactive screensaver either. Crash 4, Mario Odyssey, even Hat in Time had better gameplay simply because they required something from the player.
Oh, and that argument about kids again. In my childhood days it were the kids and only them who played (and beat) Battletoads, Mega Man, Contra and Ninja Gaiden.
N.i.c.e. astro bot is a amazing game.a platmormer classic. Word up son
@PuppetMaster i was talking about the ps2 ratchets, they really dumbed down the series as time went on. i highly recommend that you play the og trilogy those games are the best in the serie, but anyway my point is , i’m of the idea that platformers always provided a challenge. astros playroom was pretty good too
I bought this on release but am somehow yet to play it. Spring break next week so it's finally time!
@16BitHero spring break?!? that was weeks ago for me 😂 you must live in the northern states i guess
@nomither6 New York City - it was 30f this morning - almost mid April! I've previously lived in Florida/Georgia and enjoyed the earlier balmy spring breaks. No not the debaucherous student ones!
