Update []: And just like that, the Oblivion Remake rumours take another exciting turn.
As spotted by RandomlyRandom67 over on ResetEra, the Steam page for The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition has just been modified, with Bethesda removing the game's old trailers.
This kind of thing often happens when a remake or remaster is about to be announced, as the old listings are then updated with new assets, media, and links to the new version or edition. It's entirely possible that this long-rumoured Oblivion remake will replace the original release — at least on Steam.
In any case, the timing seems way too perfect for it not to mean anything. As reported earlier this week, rumours are flying with regards to an imminent reveal and release. Even though we're yet to see any actual leaks from the project itself, the evidence continues to mount.
Original Story: We've going to be very happy when the supposed Oblivion remake is finally announced. Not because it's actually real, but because we won't have to cover these increasingly tedious rumours.
The latest 'insider' information to do the rounds originates on social media (of course). A user by the name of Detective Seeds — who, to be fair, seems to have a reasonable track record when it comes to Xbox-related stuff — has made headlines with his claim that the Oblivion remake is releasing this week.
Yep, you read that right, although Detective Seeds does cover his arse a bit by adding that his source is unsure if it's happening this week or next week. Take that as you will.
Now while that may seem like an utterly mental statement to throw out there — not to mention a great way to nuke your credibility if it turns out to be inaccurate — we need to remember that previous rumours have said that an April launch is likely. And there is the big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct happening tomorrow at the time of writing. Hmmm.
And no, this isn't some April Fools' shenanigan, the post is from the 30th March, but it's only just starting to gain some real traction.
The thing is, though, we're still yet to see anything of this project. There have been no behind-the-scenes leaks beyond somewhat vague job listings; all we've had to go on are these relatively recent (and seemingly credible) rumours.
Just to refresh your memory on what we know, this remake is apparently a full, ground-up recreation of Bethesda's 2006 open world RPG, using Unreal Engine 5. Based on those aforementioned job listings, it's been developed by Virtuos — a globe-spanning development company that's also behind Metal Gear Solid Delta.
Fortunately, we'll know whether this new rumour is the real deal in the very near future. Until then, keep on dreaming in the comments section below.

It's certainly coming. I'm very excited about it as I find Oblivion just too dated to go back to now.
The real question is will it release simultaneously on all consoles? I think we are very close to Xbox Studios games releasing on Playstation at launch. Mad times we are living in.
"THIS WEEK"?
Please be true!
As much as I want this to be true I am very sceptical. We would have seen some sort of leak or confirmation that Bethesda was even working on this project. It seems unbelievable they could keep this entirely under wraps and then suddenly shadow drop it.
EDIT: I just checked steam and it still shows the same old trailers.
Released would be crazy. I could see announced this week or next but releasing is pretty big. Wonder if it would include all DLC stuff because I'd love to see Sheogorath again.
If there's re-recorded dialogue and more than 5 voice actors, I'm in!
I'm afraid it's going to be an extremely low effort "remake" if true, but I doubt that very much, even basic PS5 ports get announced ahead to rev up the hype engine a bit.
It wouldn't surprise me, somehow, if it just got shadowdropped. Bethesda need some good faith, if they're to ever finally release Elder Scrolls 6 to an actively interested audience. Maybe they've been working on it behind the scenes to test tech for the new game? On that note, with Microsoft all but signing over their games to PS5... does their exclusivity deal for ES6 still count? 🤔
Looks at the calender, righhhhhhht.
I'll wait to see if they've addressed the busted levelling system and difficulty scaling before I double dip on this.
Never really played Oblivion (started a few times, but never got far). I started with Skyrim and found it really hard to go back, so if this true, I'll be excited to dive in and see what all the fuss is about!
@GnomishViking “ It seems unbelievable they could keep this entirely under wraps and then suddenly shadow drop it.”
Microsoft loves to shadow drop thing so now… so it not so far fetched.
This week? it better not be an April 1st joke...
Skyrim remake could afford to do a "shadow drop" but does Oblivion really have the reach to pull that off, guess we'll find out.
@ButterySmooth30FPS You can say that again (like these VAs do)

@Oram77 Well as of a decade ago it had sold 9.5 million so it was a big hit. It's also going to benefit from anticipation for the next TES.
The last Elder Scrolls game I enjoyed.
Rumour on first of April. I can't think of anything I would trust more
The reason I bought an XBox 360 - my roommate and I went in on it and traded off. Lots of great memories of this one.
I never played this game, completely missed the hype on it, but was a big fan of Skyrim. So I’ll definitely check this out, would be a nice surprise if it is this week!
Yeah, and Concord is coming back this month lol
Regardless I still believe the remake might happen this year but I'm kinda worried how they'll translate the entirity of the game into UE5.
@GnomishViking
"it's been developed by Virtuos — a globe-spanning development company that's also behind Metal Gear Solid Delta."
@J2theEzzo
Not developed by Bethesda
Virtuos is basically Pound Shop Bluepoint Games
@Rhaoulos it is from yesterday
Pay day this week so excellent timing if true.
@ChrisDeku so you are saying they would make an even worse God of War live service game? Haha, i love Bluepoint games. I know 2 folks that work there. It’s a great studio. The studio is in my hometown. So i pull for them big time.
Likely an Aprils fool joke, however what if it get’s shown at tomorrows Switch 2 release event. The first switch showed off Elder scrolls with the remotes. I doubt it. But crazy stuff has happened.
@J2theEzzo Never thought for a minute it would stay being an exclusive. Imho the amount of cash they'd leave on the table by not making it cross-platform would be insane, and far too much for any shareholder to accept turning down
I really want this to be a great game but after Starfield, I'm not getting my hopes up. Also, why shadow drop what is possibly one of the best games of it's generation? It makes me wonder if Bethesda aren't proud of it and they just want to get it out of the door.
I'll be getting it on PC after a few weeks I'll wait to see what it's like for bugs and issues first then I'll get it on PS5, god to go back to tamiriel again 19 years later wow I remember my 360 days fondly
@MulletproofPunk Would have to agree!
@symmetrian I kind of thought as much. Even still- Bethesda can't be surviving off the good memories of Skyrim forever! 😅
I can't see the Switch 2 Direct being where this is revealed if it releases this week or the next. What benefit does Nintendo get from showing this game off as a kind of shadow drop for every platform but the very one they are showcasing? It distracts from the console they're trying to sell.
don't see it at all, but you never know - has to be part of the switch 2 direct, or it isn't happening this month
I would love this as Oblivion was my second favorite PS3 game, only behind Demons Souls. That being said, I don’t know if this would be affected by the strike that Bethesda-Zenimax seems to be staring down the barrel of. Either way, please let this be real.
@ButterySmooth30FPS but I want to pay with my blood. All the time, every day and at the hands of every now. And what about the adoring fan and faelian? I need that terrible voiceover work!
if this is real then an announcement must happen in one of the Switch 2 videos, we got the Direct tomorrow and a couple of Treehouses the following 2 days.
I really hope this is true. Oblivion was basically surgically attached to my Xbox 360 for years. When I bought my PS3 years later, I bought Oblivion again.
"There have been no behind-the-scenes leaks beyond somewhat vague job listings"
Wrong, Rob!
It was part of the NVIDIA leak, I think.
But I know it was in the court documents later on from the Activision acquisition scrutiny. It was planned for 2022 in that document I believe, but then COVID happened. Still, 2025 doesn't sound wrong to me. But bottom line, we know the project existed before- does it exist still? Good question
So it would be nice to stop the constant publishing of rumours. If it releases - it releases.... it's not going to release just by posting an article. People aren't going to be any more interested in a 29 year old game because of a rumour (they either were already, or they weren't).
So I've not played Oblivion, so I don't know if it's a good game. I've heard a lot of people however say that the game would feel very dated in today's gaming market. I wonder if any remaster will change up any thing - or will be a simple port.
edit - as for the Nintendo reveal...well, Skyrim was a Switch reveal... but does anyone think this will be a next gen seller for Switch 2? I'm not convinced.
If they've updated Gamebryo engine for this maybe they are also doing Fallout 3 in time for Season 2 of the Amazon TV show.... We can but hope.
Not something i would likely go back to, i played this through loads back in the day.
Always did the Umbra sword quest and just kept it
It was one of the games that i wanted a trophy patch for, but it never came.
Gods I simply have no faith in any mainline Bethesda game anymore, even one being remastered by a3rd party.
Dear Current Bethesda(Dev studio),
You Suck
Sincerely,
You screw up everything
I'm still waiting!
I haven't played it since the Xbox 360 so it will be new and fresh feeling for me. Any word on the Fallout 3 remake? Need that to do well so they can give New Vegas the same treatment.
I mean, its probably going to be crap. But im open to be surprised.
I'm tempted, never got to finish it due to a corrupt file on my ps3 😢
would be cool for switch 2.
Hopefully they remember to adjust the price of the horse armor DLC to account for inflation!
I really loved this game, and with the enchantment and spellcrafting systems it's got more to offer than Skyrim for casters. If they fix the leveling system so it's like Skyrim's, then it's going to be a banger.
I really hope this is a from the ground up remake. Either way, I’m looking forward to the release
Same thing has happened to a bunch of steam games, including The Witcher 3, Dying Light and PlayStation games like Horizon and Spider-Man etc. So I don't think it's anything unfortunately.
I'd buy this day one , i want to play the fantastic dark brotherhood quest line , I was very disappointed there was no nods to them in starfield, not even an Easter egg , id love an AC style game about the origins of the order , would be great to play a morally suspect anti hero for a change
This 19 year old remake will still be better than most the the games released today (of similar genre)
@Strohl Don’t ruin this!
As much as I really WANT to play this version of Oblivion it's very weird not seeing any in-game/footage/assets? It's going to sell regardless but it's not too much to ask to see what we're getting. If it's from the ground up like Kraven said (which I hope is the case) then I'd absolutely jump in day one.
I’m not sure if all of these rumours are legit and it’s actually happening or if there are nothing but just rumours as it seems strange if Bethesda is doing a remake of Oblivion when they haven’t shown a single trailer or a single bit of gameplay for it
Well, I guess it's not releasing today!
@adge_uk The rumor for the remake rumor was that it using UE5… Not Gamebryo
I’d gladly play this again one of my favorite games
That intro best be left well alone!! 😁 epic
I’m sort of expecting it’s just a remaster where they’ve upped the frame rate to 60fps and given it a bit of polish. Things just got wildly out of hand with someone being overheard out of context in a pub
Well? We're waiting.
Please let it be real and soon!
@MidnightDragonDX I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before, is this a good entry point?
@KidRyan I’d say so. Skyrim isn’t bad, either, but might as well see if this is real.
I aren't buying this rumor and if it ie true I can't see it being any good
@PocketHotDogs It will come with all DLC they'd be stupid not too and why I want to play it again the Shivering Isles was better than the main game
@KidRyan Morrowwind is brilliant but its very old if you don't mind playing Keyboard and Mouse games it's a great game. Oblivion is good but you have to go off the main quest straight away for all the side quests. But it's worth playing you don't have to play Morrowwind to play Oblivion really
Mad how many people either dont read the article or can't read 😭😭 comments saying April fools when the article says it's not April fools as the post is from 30th march 🙄🤣
@StrickenBiged
Exactly this. Fingers crossed the game can live up to its potential now.
@Hyena_socks If it was a 60fps/4K update it would be a waste of time because Oblivion already has that on Series X.
@Jey887 It’s already multiplat so I’d be very surprised if they did.
The original ps3 title didn't have trophies and most launch titles that didn't ship with trophies never got any on the ps3. I believe Bioshock on the ps3 was one of the first few games that got trophies before Sony mandated all Playstation games needed to have trophies.
I will believe it when I see it, I'm also ignoring the YouTube vids with clickbait on the same subject repeatedly with no substance so I'm pretty tired of the rumours going back and forth.
@Rodimusprime13 Uncharted 1 got a patch that was my first game to get trophies on
@Nakatomi_Uk Likely one of the few exceptions. All launch titles could be patched to add trophies but most developers didn't bother.
Back in the day when tech was still accelerating fast, some games got released and people would build entire new PCs just to play that one game. This was one of those games. It's difficult to appreciate now but the entire video game community went wild when the first trailer dropped, it was so far ahead of anything else at the time
This was one of the very few multi plat games that actually ran better on PS3 than the 360. It went south with Skyrim… like off a cliff south
Looked at the ResetEra thread and it was pointed out that a bunch of games had trailers removed from their Steam pages on that same day. So that doesn't have any correlation to this rumour.
