Well done @crimsontadpoles, I absolutely loved Nier: Automata so am really looking forward to finally getting around to Nier: Replicant. If you’ve played both, how would you say they compare?
@colonelkilgore I'd say that Nier: Automata is the better game. But if you loved Nier: Automata, then you'll likely love Nier: Replicant too.
One thing to note is that Nier was originally a much older game, so the locations in Replicant won't be as expansive as the ones in Automata. But the combat in the Replicant remaster has been updated to be more in line with the fluidity of Automata, and the story is full of Yoko Taro's magic and weirdness.
@CaptD Thanks. Whilst I'm glad I got the platinum, I agree about not wanting to go through that grind again.
I wish I went into the boosting thread every now and again as I’m currently playing the game too and it would have been much easier to do the co-op levels (and trophies) with someone else rather than playing with two controllers on my lap
And it’s just The Ripsnorter left for me at the moment. I’d been away for a week so played through each individual trial again last night until I could do back to back runs on each one successfully. But it’s still the crab section that gets me as the timing of their movement is slightly ahead/behind where they are in the individual trial and I always seem to fluff up there.
@Thrillho That section messed with me for a while as well. It's not an easy section anyway as the movement of the crabs makes your brain think you can go for a gap even though you know you shouldn't. It was one that I took a bit more time with than I would have done if doing it for the gold by itself. The bit where you get to the circle platforms with the electric eels going round I actually just walked round at their speed, and then the big circle section after that with the crabs I just took my time and waited until they were walking towards me to jump over them.
It was then the section after that that was one of the hardest for me - the inverting jelly fish one. There was something about that section that meant the timing was always different so I couldn't really learn it. It was probably only milliseconds out but really messed up my rhythm and often meant I'd just hit a platform I thought was going to be solid and it would disappear.
@render It’s the zig zag part before the eels where I’m most likely to mess up.
But I saw the activity card for that challenge showed that you don’t seem to do the final of the challenges again but end with the one with loads of clock bonuses so it looks like going steady is the way to go overall with that last bit a good way of making up some lost time if needed.
@Thrillho I think I finished at 8.30 or something around that. I could have collected more clock bonuses off of that section to get a better time I'm sure but by then all I wanted to do was get to the finish 😅
Ping...Far Cry 6. Typical Far Cry, lots of crazy action, fun vehicles and whacky treasure hunts. Great voice acting by (female) Dani and Giancarlo Esposito was brilliant as well, despite having few cutscenes his presence was felt.
This is my third big Ubisoft game in as many months (the two others being Crew 2 and Riders republic), as Kathy Bates would say "Ubisoft I'm your number one fan"
Shortly followed by "Now give me a new splinter cell, don't make me get the sledge hammer"
@CaptD Nice work on that one. I've not played many Ubisoft games but still playing Riders Republic and enjoying it. Will really have to try and get into a few others, and I said at one point that I'd give Assassin's Creed an honest go as I probably played about 5 minutes of Black Flag and just didn't get back to it.
@render As prolific as Ubisoft is as a publisher and developer, I’m surprised you’ve not played many of their games. In a way, they are a lot like Sony — in that they have: huge gaming franchises they keep going back to and release consistently high quality sequels in (Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy, Just Dance), some stone-cold classics that they occasionally resurrect (Rayman, Prince of Persia) beloved experimental and indie style types of games (Child of Light, Valiant Hearts, Beyond Good & Evil, Brawlhalla), and dabble into multiple genres (Trackmania, The Crew, Steep, The Division, Riders and Trials games, For Honor, Xdefiant)
But for whatever reason, the community thinks of them only in terms of their biggest 2-3 franchises and forgets their diverse catalogue. Perhaps it’s because they have gone back to the well a little too much with their recycling of their most successful formulas even in their new IP (Watch Dogs, Skull & Bones, Immortals) which makes people feel like they are so ‘one-note’. Sony gets the same bad rap when people only affiliate their output with their most popular IP and ignore their smaller output.
I am concerned about the current state of Ubisoft though. Even besides whatever legal and ethical trouble they have had, their creative output seems to be stuttering. Various states of dysfunction have been rumored about the development of most of their biggest projects like Skull & Bones, Prince of Persia reboot, and of course Beyond Good & Evil 2. Even Avatar seems to have been delayed and I get the feeling it’s development has been troubled. They wax and wane with the Assassin’s Creed IP — having gotten the message a few years ago that they needed to slow down on the prior annualized release schedule and give the IP room to breathe, and now have gone back to saturating the market with a deluge of new AC sequels in development. With the Activision deal seemingly ready to go through, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Microsoft or some other big entity like Tencent kicking the tires on Ubisoft as a potential target.
@Thrillho You've got more time than you think with that trophy. Just concentrate on getting through it in one piece and chances are you'll be way under ten minutes
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Th3solution Out of all those games you've mentioned I've probably played just a few of them so Ubisoft really have passed me by as a publisher. They aren't the only one though. I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls or Fallout games so wasn't too bothered when Bethesda got snapped up by MS, and it's the same with ActiBlitz as even though I enjoyed my time with Crash Bandicoot and WoW they were games I played little of and left behind a long time ago, and well CoD is just something that doesn't really interest me.
Unlike those though I am actually interested in some of the other Ubisoft properties but with so many other games coming out that I want to play and others that I'm catching up on I'm not sure when I'll get the time to pick them up. I actually do hope that now MS have pretty much sealed the deal with ActiBlitz they won't be allowed to buy anyone else for a long while and we'll be able to enjoy them on our platform of choice.
Your concern about creative output does seem to be a common one though. It seems to be that the name Ubisoft is now associated with open world games of a certain structure rather than their other output and I wonder if that does put a lot of people off playing games by them. Hopefully their teams can show that they can still be innovative and come out with something genuinely exciting in the coming years and I will definitely make a concerted effort to try some of their other games.
@Thrillho I would definitely agree with @Gremio108 in that you have more time than you think but I would say that I also found it better to go faster in some sections than to slow down too much as it always threw me of my rhythm doing that.
@render Cheers dude. I didn't get on with black flag, all that sea shanty chasing drove me spare but it is one of the more well liked Creed games. I quite liked Origins and Odyssey, Valhalla not so much.
@Th3solution Seeing as MS has kicked off an arms race or race to the bottom whichever term you prefer, I think Sony will have to respond. I would actually like Sony to pick up Ubi (if they are unfortunately sold) as they have quite a broad range of studios, racing which Sony is lacking and also I think they could turn their hand at shoring up the rpg side for Sony. Plus I think ubi has the quality that Sony expects in their games.
Plus we might get a Days Gone 2 (joke, Bend should do it if it happens, which it won't).
@Gremio108@render I’ll hopefully get it soon. I’m making it at least 3/4 of the way through now routinely but just keep making silly mistakes. I’m slowing it right down for the crab section and that’s not causing any issues now.
Just a pain to re-do 5 minutes worth of work when you do something stupid!
@CaptD congrats mate… and as you already know, another Ubi-fan here. Ghost Recon, Watchdogs, Assassins Creed, Far Cry… I enjoy them all tbh… and really liked Riders Republic too. Probably means I have absolutely no taste what if you go by the general consensus but I couldn’t give a hoot, fun times were had.
@Thrillho Ah I made so many of those types of errors. I'd get further each time and then have a spate of doing really daft things on the easy bits. One of the most annoying ones I remember though was I got right through to the fire section, which was as far as I'd ever got at that point, and in my amazement slowed down just to compose myself and stood too close to the flames 🤦♂️
@colonelkilgore Cheers I did sort of mention my praise for ubi to get a bit of a rise out of people.
I've yet to play Watchdogs London, I might play it. Immortals FR is probably next up.
Got my first PS5 plat and 101st overall with Stray. I had decided a while ago that was going to be the first one and Stray leaving Extra gave me more incentive to get it finished.
@MidnightDragonDX congrats bud, I’ve been waiting for a decent sale price on Stray for aaagggeeeesss… might have to bite the bullet and pay full price for it at this rate.
