If you're a fan of fast and furious, DOOM-esque shooting on PS5, Deadlink earns itself an easy recommendation. This is a cyberpunk-themed blast-'em-up with a roguelite structure, where the goal is to run through preset levels that dish out randomised rewards upon completion. It's frantic, often sweat-inducing fun, held together by tight controls, smooth gunplay, and a thumping electronic soundtrack.
In this dystopian future, you play as an operative who controls remote combat shells — humanoid killing machines that your corporate sponsors want to utilise in real-world war. Indeed, Deadlink's levels are set across a series of simulations — each more deadly than the last — while a sinister cyberpunk storyline bubbles away in the background.
But even though the typically murky plot does intrigue, you're playing Deadlink for the near non-stop carnage, and the adrenaline rush that comes with tearing through an arena in especially stylish fashion. Essentially, combat shells are your character classes, each of them equipped with their own unique weapons and abilities. Most of these abilities operate on cooldowns, and so a lot of the game's tension stems from finding a sustainable rhythm as you run and gun against increasingly dangerous opponents.
As you progress, you'll steadily unlock new implants and weapon mods, and if you're lucky, you'll stumble across potent character builds that are capable of catapulting you to later levels. While these upgrades are lost upon death, Deadlink still provides a rewarding sense of progression thanks to a slew of permanent unlocks, which can be claimed in exchange for the resources that you gather during runs.
There's a lot of cool stuff to work towards, and once you've pushed beyond the game's initial learning curve, the upgrades really start racking up. Eventually, you'll get to a point where survival actually seems pretty straightforward — and that's when you knuckle down with higher difficulty settings, and even a dedicated time attack mode.
Deadlink is a blast. At its pulse-pounding best, it's a breakneck shooter that rewards skill and tactical thinking, and keeps you hooked with a range of run-altering unlocks. A must for fans of relentless and often brutal action.

If anyone's got questions about Deadlink let me know and I'll try to answer them.
Really good game! I'll likely be keeping it installed on my PS5 for a long time.
How hard does the platinum seem?
I've played a bunch of this on PC (it's been in Early Access for a bit). I haven't played the most recent 1.0 release patch (which brought a bunch of gamepad updates with it to align with console support) but generally speaking, it's a really solid FPS rogue-lite with, as mentioned, a DOOM/Unreal/Quake-like feel to the shooting.
@J-Dubs my thoughts exactly 😉
The PC achievement guide states 20-40 hours and 6/10 difficulty, will be the same list no doubt.
I’ve never heard of this game but this review has piqued my interest. And I love the art style, with the fast and kinetic gameplay. I’ll definitely check this out!
Might have to check this one out!
@ShogunRok I just searched and couldn't find information on price or ESRB rating. Do you know?
@MindfulGamer its $24.99 and M rating.
@J-Dubs It's a hard Trophy list. You need to beat the game on the hardest difficulty and do a bunch of specific combat challenges. Not impossible but you'll really need to know the game inside-out in order to get the Plat.
This is a lot of fun. Gunplay is very satisfying. Agree with the description of it being a doom-esque roguelite. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but loving it so far.
I've been playing this game on my Steamdeck for almost a year and I love it. It can get a bit annoying after long runs and being killed by some tiny little enemy that got a cheap shot, but it is a lot of fun! Also, I can't say that I ever experienced any notable stutters on Steamdeck. Might double dip on this one though!
Looks like I found what I'm doing tonight! Love it. Ty for the review.
You didn’t mention the music at all in the reciew except for saying it’s ’thumping’ in the opening paragraph.
With roboquest and the other quality FPS rougelites out now this is just meh compared to them all. I ended up refunding after about a hour on steam as it's main gameplay loop is weak, the maps are way too small and repetitive.
