Cutting the TV (and DVR rental) out of my TV/Internet package a few months back has been saving me about $100/month - it's really more than a lot of people give it credit for, when you factor in all the sneaky little details. Assuming Sony can deliver comparable service and selection, $50/month with DVR effectively included is a very competitive price.
Comcast only ever advertises their new customer promotional prices, and gets away with not mentioning that those rates pretty much double after a year. On their website right now, they're offering a $40/month "digital starter TV" deal for new customers in my area - but click through to the fine print, and you see that the price jumps up to $66-76/mo after a year, and that's for a single outlet, all equipment and installation extra, so I'm guessing another $15/mo for a DVR, and it's anyone's guess how much they'll ding you for installation.
Suddenly that $40/month steal becomes theft of a different sort at $90/month.
That said, personally, cutting the cord was as much for symbolic reasons as economic for me, so this is something I'd still resist if it came to my area. If I was to consider picking service back up again, though, this pricing would put Sony's service at the top of my list of providers to consider.
Wow, despite all the flak SE's gotten in recent years for being up its own butt, this may be the first thing I've ever seen that has me seriously considering passing on a (non-MMO) Final Fantasy game. A world with a technology path that's paralleled our own I can buy, it's kind of charming in its way, but real-life corporate presence is exactly the kind of jackassery I turn to video games to get away from.
So much for escapism in gaming; this really takes the Fantasy ouf of Final Fantasy.
@get2sammyb Super Nintendo branding with the Super Famicom logo and button coloration? I... never knew there could be an Uncanny Valley for controllers, but growing up with the American version (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7a/SNES-Controller.jpg/640px-SNES-Controller.jpg), that picture has me subtly super unsettled.
No PS4 here, with plenty left to play on my PS3. There's... not really anything groundbreaking the PS4 can do that the PS3 can't, from what I've seen, so I haven't felt much pressure to upgrade. Every time I hear "Cross-gen is holding us back!" I sigh and shake my head a bit, wondering if the truth is that there just isn't that much more to be done with a given game's mechanics and art style.
The exclusivity of Second Son and Type-0 are still the only things that have even really have me tempted so far, and at least one of those could be functionally pulled off on a PSP, of all things.
