They failed to manage the hype & keep fans expectation under control, all they needed was some regular updates & communication, but they did nothing. At this point, the idea of "scrap the project and make it a true vaporware" start to sound "not so bad". Unless the game is mind-blowingly good, people might end up remember more about the wait & ridiculous radio silence than the game itself. Love HK and want more HK? Go play HK again, maybe on another platform, maybe with some mods, or watch some HK lore YT video, and forget about SS, brainwash yourself, it never existed.
Anyone remember Sony made a PS phone aka Xperia Play? Also released a software framework called PS Mobile for Vita and Android with games like Tokyo Jungle Mobile, then kill it after 3 years?
Also while people talking Nintendo's NSO companion app on smartphone is bad, anyone know Sony released a s**ttier companion app years ago exclusively in Japan called "Kyoutou Guild" for co-op games like Soul Sacrifice and Gundam Breaker etc., and they killed it only after 7 months.
PS Vita having PSN sign-in and download issues recently and still not fixed, and Sony doesn't give a s**t. (Turn on 2-step verification may temporally fix sign-in problem but people still having download errors like NP-9978-3)
judging by their attitude, they will fail again.
Sony should just keep letting its subsidiary like Aniplex making F2P gacha games like Fate/Grand Order and milk people's money.
Most people now focusing a lot on the "digital only" games, "buy them now or lost forever!". But if we count DLCs too, then a much larger number of games we will loss of access.
Imagine one day after the store is closed, someone bought a used physical copy of Muramasa Rebirth without knowing there were DLCs for this game, and later finds out that about half of the game is inaccessible because they are DLCs.
(Also worth pointing out that lots of DLCs are yet to be "backed up and shared" online, so they will be gone completely, even if we decide to fall into the dark side, unlike those games)
From a preservation point of view, most of digital only games can still be accessed using "the evil way", since lots of them are shared somewhere on the internet.
But what about DLCs? Tons of them are still missing. Will be gone forever.
(Really hate those Japanese developers making dozens of DLCs & time-limited pre-order bonuses, especially for their domestic Japanese releases)
Nice, after so many years now I'm finally ready to *FW my Vita and also install & say hello to R**S3 on my PC. But this is typical Sony, not so surprised. Every time after a win in some area, they become arrogant and f**k many things up.
Did some google searching about this problem and it seems PS3 is also affect by this.
If the battery dead, no internet time = no game.
And if the battery is replaced, until the clock is synced from internet again = no game.
According to some tweets, Sony is not using normal NTP server to sync the time but using HTTPS, so is not easy to trick your not yet hacked console to sync with another time source.
Which means if one day Sony shuts down its time syncing service for old console and the clock battery in the console is dead/replaced, then your bought contents are now dead too.
Of course by that time the console can probably be hacked, but sadly there's still no way to preserve and use your own real money bought copy without any modification.
By comparing what Sony did with their laughable PS Classic with what the community has done, comparing how Vita handled the PSP and how community improved it, etc.
Buying emulator (no the game but the emulation software) made by Sony on a Sony platform? No thanks.
Although far from perfect, would rather emulate them on PC using emulators made by the community, offers more function, more flexibility. (Not talking about piracy, but things like online multiplayer, controller, mods, higher resolution support etc.)
BTW, Sony shut down its old web store (smcid=psapp trick) today, so no more old contents can be bought using web browser. Hooray!
Instead of "communicate its plans", Sony now silently killed their old web version of the store around half a day ago. So the "?smcid=psapp" trick won't work and no PS3/Vita/PSP games, DLCs, themes and avatars could be purchased using web browser anymore. Thanks Sony! and Thanks Jim!

Re: Sony Game MLB The Show 21 Will Be Free with Game Pass on Xbox, Full-Price on PS5, PS4
Everyone: Jim Ryan is Don Mattrick.
Jim: Wrong, I'm Stephen Elop.
...it's MLB, no big deal. If one day they put something like Horizon Zero Dawn on Game Pass, then it's time to freak out.
