@Ralizah curious as to why you prefer console to portable for rhythm games? I've always found with my headphones in I can get in the zone far easier on portable.
Hyped for this. Physical double pack looks really nice, and I'm a massive persona fan, but I much prefer playing rhythm games on a portable (lag free pretty much 100% gauranteed), so I'm torn on which to go for. Will probably end up with both ...
@Lowplains and I can't agree with that at all. Accepting that aggression in that environment is acceptable feeds into the toxic culture. We are adults, and if we can't control our behaviour and be respectful to other people, then there is a serious problem. You should always speak online like you would speak to somebody in public, and swearing in agression whilst hiding behind a game is not okay.
I do agree that locking out if single player is probably a little far, but locking you out of multiplayer is completely acceptable. If you want to shout and swear and vent your agression, then you'll have to do it via local multiplayer.
I do appreciate what you are saying, but it worries me that it seems to some that swearing and being aggressive has become the norm. It's no wonder the press find it so easy to dredge up negative articles on gaming.
I agree that they are subjective, but to call it the worst game you've played is a mild exagerration ... I'm glad you enjoyed P5, but the similarities to P4 are so numerous that I find it hard to believe that you think one is one of the worst games you've played, and the other to be fine.
I do get slightly confused by the whole objective/subjective thing though. Some things are objectively good or bad, it's your appreciation of them that is subjective.
For example, objectively, I can see that GTA games are very good. They are well designed, they have there's lots of freedom to explore, the graphics are great, and the soundtrack has a lot of variety. I don't disagree with the high review scores they receive, however, I just don't enjoy playing them, and subjectively don't appreciate what they have to offer. I wouldn't say they are the worst games I've played though, as casting a critical eye with an objective perspective, I can see why they are so highly praised.
Whereas Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, I played through until the end, I didn't mind it, but find it the worst of the tomb raider series by far, and looking at it with and objective eye would rate it very low, as objectively it is a bad game with objectively bad control scheme, camera angles, and systems.
I would prefer game criticism to be written on this manner, in which the reviewer may offer their subjective opinion, but actually offer constructive criticism and give an objective perspective as well, which is why I'm all for getting rid of review scores (I find Eurogamers Essential, Recommended, no score, or Avoid a decent compromise).
@Spectra I'm not quite sure whether you are trolling me but ... criticising the music when it is literally good enough to spin off a whole rhythm game. I'm not sure we are talking about the same game. The characters are all fantastic, each with their own flaws and weaknesses (including teddy being annoying), the more intimate country town setting is a refreshing change from most other JRPGs, same as the plot, which is on a more personal scale, and a fun little murder mystery in itself that is still decent and really gives the characters room to grow.
And yeah, the gameplay is pretty traditional, but it's the interconnecting systems that make it fun to develop relationships, personas, and stats.
Everything you criticise the game for is what it is pretty much universally loved for (my vita pretty much became a Persona 4 machine). Everything you say about 4 can ewualky be applied to 5, and 5 has it's own issues as well (nothing is above criticism).
I do agree that the rpgs you mentioned are pretty subpar (anything with compile hearts name attached I pretty much avoid), but I just find your criticism of P4 so contrarian that I'm not sure whether you are pulling my leg.
@LaNooch1978 that makes sense if you watch to share them with others, as with digital it's possible, but the solution isn't ideal.
I'm certainly with you on Blu Rays, being a massive film buff myself (I prefer film to gaming). I'm more into Blu Rays and DVDs for the extra features, and the lack of a unified library for films makes it a bit if a hassle going digital.
@Spectra you could, but since I've been playing JRPG's for about 25 years, you'd be wrong. . I could name tons of JRPG's that are worse than P4, and they still wouldn't be close to the worst game I've ever played. Why is it you find it so bad? You seem to like P5, which basically just build upon 4 (the biggest change being the non-random dungeons this time, which I do prefer).
@Spectra you cannot have played many games if that is the worst you've ever played. Easily one of the top JRPG's (though P5 definitely topped it for me, it drives me crazy when I can't encourage people to play it, the only other game I've spent as much time with this gen is Yakuza 0).
@LaNooch1978 fair enough. Glad you enjoyed the analogy. I used to be pretty much 100% physical, with digital only games being my only digital purchases, but the move over to PS4 pushed me to 90% digital. Sales prices are amazing (though I don't want steam level craziness to start devaluing content), plus, the whole having to download big patches and install to system just made me feel like the disc was nothing but a copy protection device, and one extra hoop to jump through.
I reckon getting older and London living has done opposite to me, I just see game dics/Blu Ray discs/collectors edition as extra junk to find places to store in an overpriced flat, whereas once upon a time I would salivate over collectors editions, and quite happily spend a day alphabetising and catagorising discs ...
@Lowplains I understand the point, and agree that once bought you shouldn't be blocked from offline play. I do think they should be able to block online functionality etc. For bad behaviour, we all swear at some point, but online isn't the place for it, and we should all have a little self control. My main reason for avoiding online play is the agressive, over competitive behaviours. Makes something fun into something devoid of fun.
@LaNooch1978 it's far more convenient to press the home button and switch to another game. Convenience is about things been convenient, not going from one extreme to the other. For example, I have a grill, so if I wanted to make toast, I could quite easily put the bread under the grill, and turn half way. But because a toaster is more convenient, I have a toaster.
There is no arguing digital is far more convenient, like the other day, I had a game on my home screen, clicked to play, realised the Blu Ray I had been watching was in the machine, so had to switch the disc to play the game that was already fully installed on my hard drive. Not a massive issue, and I'm far from lazy (go to gym daily, swim a couple of times a week, walk an hour each way to and from work), but it bugs me that a full install still requires the disc. It wouldn't bug me half as much if the game streamed from the disc.
I'm generally happy to go digital, used to love physical, but now I just think of most physical copies as plastic, inconventient tat, especially with the full installs. Even the few nice collectors edition I buy (mainly Nintendo games) end up on a shelf, and rarely used beyond the initial opening. Maybe it's as I get older, but convenience beats out having shelves of nice looking physical copies.
@Lowplains is it really so difficult to not swear though ... I think the majority of people find it pretty easy to not get their account banned uf they behave like a decent human.
@EVIL-C similar to most websites today, it appears the proofreading is left up to the readers. I do enjoy the content the website puts out, but the grammatical errors, lack of fact checking and choices of phrasing are just a few of the things that really bug me, and come across as unprofessional at times.
"This is the first time in the history of the series that it's coming to Western shores" - this isn't entirely accurate, as there was a PS2 release in the US.
@GKO900 just because it needs a case, doesn't mean it isn't a portable. Popping it in a protective case isn't a great inconvenience, plus gives you a little space for game cards etc.
Plus your argument about bad games is disproven by the chart, whete nut ine of the switch games on there is objectively bad, whereas a couple of the pS4 ones on there are either bad or mediocre (new Gundam breaker scored a 2/10 on here and sat at an average of 43 on metacritic. And The Crew 2 was a 6/10 on here and sitting at an average of 64. Looking at the switch list, there is only kirby star allies, and labo that may be sitting lower down in the scores.
@GKO900 I'm not quite sure why you say switch is not a true portable? I use mine undocked the majority of the time, and considering I travel a lot for work, I often take it with me and use on the train. I can't see how this isn't portable?
And pointing out that some games are bad or mediocre at best is something you could point at any console.

What I would love to see from the Persona Team is a P3 remake in P5 engine, with content from fes and P3P rolled into one. I can but dream.
