Re: Review: inFAMOUS: Second Son (PlayStation 4)

Not a bad average rating, but doesn't look good enough for me to buy a system for... especially since PS4's now cost $450 in Canada. 1080p at 30 fps is not something to be impressed about with the current generation. With my CPU pushing almost everything at 60 fps/1080p+, I would expect this gen to do no less. People crapped on the Wii U for only putting out 720p/60 fps and 1080p/30 fps. Let's hope Destiny wows me, when it comes out.

What are other potential must-own games coming out for PS4? I want a justification for buying the system... there just is none at the time being.

This game is a prelude to another that will bring in $60+ per copy. This game should be released as a $10 release digitally and treated no differently than other high-quality, yet short, DLC. Many will argue its AAA status makes it deserve a higher cost, but I disagree. I am not stating this in an DLC or indie (based on my price recommendation), but there are many DLC for AAA games that have tons more content for a much lower cost. If this engine was built exclusively for this game, then I could understand their reasoning. This, concept, to me, feels like a parallel to all of those Early Access games on Steam with exclusive content if pre-purchased. Poor practice. If this sells well, we all might as well expect this to happen again... and again (again).

This game is pretty intense. With a few combinations for methods of control (D-pad, analog stick, R or L for thrust), I am finding the game is fairly tight on the Vita. Outside of what appear to be intentional slowdowns during collisions (they apparently also show up on the PS3 and I find them very helpful as you are usually being attacked by an ace or colliding with a battleship), the game runs very well. The length may be short, but the replayability lies in your desire to chase your high score and have fun trying to survive.

If this game had randomly-generated underground, I would buy it. However, many people stated that the game has no replay value to not being random (except maybe for optional sections). Some reviews state that the underground is randomly-generated, while others say it is not. Many people on GameFAQs have stated the treasures and such are not randomly-located. So many partially random. A game like this needs to be Spelunky-random to keep its interest.

I am not sure why others cannot understand that this was just a publicity stunt. If they didn't want the breasts to be viewed, they would have left the front of her body without any textures. This is working in the favour of the developers and I am sure it will increase interest in this game and sales of this game.

@ferrers405, not quite $100,000... much less.

Does this article consider the $115,000 from PayPal. That counts towards the stretch goals. Currently they are at $3,377,661 + $115,000 = $3,492,661. They are just under $8k away from their goal of $3.5 million.

Edit: The total is now $3,522,420 (including $135,000 PayPal). They have met the Vita + 3DS stretch goal! Two new stretch goals added for $3.8 and $4.0 million.

@TOMBOY25 IGN has been very inaccurate this generation. They speak high heavens of some games and mention only minor issues and then give it an 8.0 or 8.5, and then they have GTA 4/5 in which they speak of it in a similar fashion, only to write down similar issues and give it a 9.5 or 10.0. The only difference is that they use important-sounding phrases likely hoping to land in a post-release trailer or advertisement.

Ubisoft Official Statement:

Thanks so much for you passion about this game. I'm currently playing the Vita version and loving it. That said, I know some of you have questions about the Vita version, so here's what's going on: Due to a longer development time than expected, we couldn’t initially include the Invasion Mode – essentially, a second take on existing Rayman Legends maps — in the Vita version of the game. However, we can confirm that the Invasion Mode will be added via a free patch, at a later date. With more than 100 levels, online Coop and challenges, Kung-Foot mini-game, 5 exclusive touch challenges developed specifically for the VITA and 2 exclusive costumes, Rayman Legends already includes a lot for customers to love, and features the same outstanding graphics and gameplay design as the home console versions.

@ Sutorcen When I first played the game on Xbox 360, the ghost annoyed me, too. But, when you are going for high scores (which is one of the main purposes of the game), you will be happy it is there. If not, your score would depend more on what items you got (luck) than it does on your skill (ability to get through levels quicker). When you have a weapon in-hand, getting the golden idol and damsel back to the exit while retrieving your weapon is suddenly not as easy to do in 2.5 minutes. But, if you can, you will succeed better. It also forces you to play faster which, to an inexperienced player, will result in more mistakes and deaths. In the end, you will be glad you have a time limit. If you absolutely need to get something in the level, you can get around the ghost using ropes or a jetpack. I have run around the level which, opened up enough, offered me substantial areas to run away. The ghost is speed limited and must use its ability to go through walls and its size to kill you. In the end, treat it no differently than any other enemy... that cannot be killed.

Re: Feature: 15 Fresh PS4, PS3, and Vita Titles That Should Be on Your Wishlist

@get2sammyb I think people are obsessed with Roguelikes like The Binding of Isaac and (if you want to call it one) Spelunky because they offer challenging but addictive gameplay. People like myself, who are not gaming gods can still plow through some games with ease (one example, NSMB on the DS). However, games like these offer randomized replayability to keep them fresh while you develop the skills and improve enough to master the game. I look at my Steam friends list and see people in excess of 200 hours on The Binding of Isaac. I do not, yet, but I expect to play the Vita version for many hours. Reason I barely played it on the PC... keyboard controls are poor and the 360 has a crappy D-pad. I tried with the PS3 controller, but the program I used for emulating the controller wasn't the best and I was too lazy to keep configuring and fighting with it to get a proper setup.

Re: Project Phoenix Developer Certain of PS4 and Vita Release

@get2sammyb For me, this is the problem. I have been part of 1 Kickstarter project from 2011 and some people still have not yet received their products (I did much later). It is a Catch 22. If I support them now, with such a little amount of time left, I will end up getting not all that I desire (the stretch goals). I will have, thus, rather not supported them. However, if they were to put all of those stretch goal features in the game, then the game goes on my interest list. Most people know that ideas, features, and what developers say is not simply enough to make a game good. If we look back at previous video games made on Kickstarter with high expectations, none of them ended up that Amazing. I'd rather see something good come to fruition before I spend my money on it. There is enough other games to spend my hard earned coins on.
