Re: Sony Says the Best Time to Get a PS5 Is Now

@MrPeanutbutterz I know the PS3 had a noteworthy failure rate , but it was no where near as bad as the Xbox360 - Yes, i’ve had one PS3 break on me , but so did my Wii. 7th generation was an ambitious generation all around that had to crawl so that later tech could walk, but with it came new revolutionary experiences. & besides, the slim models pretty much fixed the small failure issue that the OG fat had anyway, and the ps4 is much louder than the ps3! seriously , how aren’t your ears still ringing years later from that jet engine??

& while the PS3 back compat wasn’t perfect , it was still reliable & i’d rather have 3 generations of consoles in 1 system vs only one . Plus, the slim models can play ps1 games natively.

Yes the online is better, but at a cost. a scam at that .

better controller? yes, just revert back to hall effect analog sticks , and do something about the mediocre battery. the touchpad is also still useless but i won’t complain about that . the dualsense is a great controller nonetheless.

better storage? debatable . you can only download a handful of modern games before the ps5 is filled to the brim with HD texture garbage or whatever modern games bloat their sizes with.

4k blu-ray player ? not a fair comparison. the ps3 had a blu-ray player in 2006

the ps3 was way ahead of its time & was more powerful than PCs for a good 2 years. The ps4 released outdated & the ps5 is lukewarm especially if you previously owned a ps4 pro.

that said, i hope the ps5 generation gets extended somehow & gets a long run like the ps2 and ps4 did.

Edit - ok so i looked up the inflation rate, & the ps3 in 2006 was equivalent to damn near $800 . ahhh it pains me to say this but , you’re right , i admit the ps3 was a bit overpriced. i was a kid then so excuse my lack of empathy for that asking price. plus the economy here was terrible in 2008 when the ps3 was still expensive

@MrPeanutbutterz Ill preface by saying that i ignore inflation & hardly understand how it works but - for 2006 & considering how much the original PS3 offered at that time, i believe the PS3 was worth the asking price. The PS5? hell no.

@twitchtvpat No offense but why would i care about it being the least selling playstation ? & playstation (up until the PS4) has generally had shoddy ports and the PS2 wasn’t exactly easy to develop for either & was the weakest system of its generation. No console has been perfect yet imo , they’ve all had flaws. & the difference between the PS5 remasters vs the PS3 remasters is that the ps3 actually had its own games & own unique library. The ps5 is seeing remasters of games that are still fairly recent & from a console where the leap is minimal, so much so, that you can be better off just playing the same ps4 game on the ps5 instead. The PS3 wasn’t a remaster console, the PS5 is. Not to mention that the PS3 had “remasters” of its portable counterparts with added trophy support, so i think that’s a bonus and convenient.

& from a strictly games standpoint - whether first party or third party , the PS3 smashes the PS5 tremendously.

@Deljo The PS3 was legendary , we really had it good that generation; the PS3 & Xbox360 were both amazing consoles that pioneered gaming so much - the libraries were insane , the games were insane, the innovation & online were insane, new experiences & new IPs galore . Rockstar released like FIVE games or more that generation, COD was at its peak , there was so many genres and types of games for everyone & the birth of indies .

i could go on man, it was so good. so many games today benefit from that era alone .

Also want to add that i’ll never get over how ambitious sony was with the initial (fat) PS3 - despite being expensive , it provided soo much that it puts the ps5 pro to shame. the OG PS3 was a cutting edge freak of technology in 2006

This is the worst Playstation generation. While the Xbox brand is arguably irrelevant - the Playstation 5 still absolutely blows. Compared to its predecessors ?

-Overpriced
-Terrible lack of exclusives
-Terrible lack of original new IPs
-Exclusives releasing on PC making it even harder for me to use my console more
-Driftsense battery eater
-Mediocre UI
-Least impressive generational leap
-Online is still paywalled & more costly

The PS5 is the least Playstation feeling Playstation i’ve ever owned. $ony lost its identity imo.

1.PS3
2.PS2/PS4
3.PS1
4. A trash can
5. PS5

@RadioHedgeFund

“ How do we define AAA anyway? Technically superior? Games that last ages? Big open worlds?”

-YES. This is not to sound shallow or anything , but come on, this is what everyone associates a triple A game with. It doesn’t necessarily have to be open-world but definitely the former two. & i hope nintendo’s not wasting that much time on the next mario because we haven’t gotten a new mario kart in 10 years! the switch hasn’t had a mario kart, metroid prime (yet) , F-zero is still dead, no starfox, pokemon hasn’t had a groundbreaking game since the gamecube, etc most of the switch library just feels like AA indies imo

Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down

@NEStalgia that’s also true & “live service” is a fairly new term. i just haven’t played a racing game in years to really comment about them; the last i played was forza horizon 4, and i dont know what to make of it - would you consider that a live service ?

Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down

nomither6

Worst Playstation generation of all time, BUT before you hit that heart - I’m also glad sony is still trying to make another successful live service 😁 there’s still room for untapped potential, just stop making a FPS or third person shooter and try something different that also isn’t low budget indie garbage with cartoony graphics. at least that’s what i want .

A twisted metal live service would’ve been nice

@S1ayeR74 well there’s always going to be people that like something whether it’s good , bad , or even terrible. I’ve heard more people express their disappointment with this generation vs people thatve said it’s “the best”; in fact , i don’t think i’ve even heard someone say it’s the best - a good gen ? sure , but the best ? hahahaha 😂.

Also bioshock (1 in particular) is amazing; such a unique and eerie game oozing with charm & is so interesting and paced pretty good. it’s a gem from the ps3 era, & theres nothing like it! the setting, the story, the gameplay, atmosphere, music, etc is all so good, i’m glad you enjoyed it . unfortunately i didn’t like 2 it was just “off” to me , and bioshock infinite isn’t the direction i wanted it to go .

I’m with you about TLOU2 & horizon, but am surprised you enjoyed ragnarok. And yeah steam is where most of my attentions been lately as well , & i’m looking forward to nintendo’s new system or whatever mainly for a new mario kart , it’s been over 10 years !
