@HMazzy111 I want FIFA but I would never buy it. So I guess I’m the exception and not the rule 😅 I don’t want it bad enough to spend money on it, especially since each FIFA is just a carbon copy of the previous year.
@naruball same. Sony always seems to do this to me lol. I wish I had the patience that a lot of others seem to have to just wait for stuff to go on sale or be given away — but there’s no way in hell I can do that because I need that instant gratification lol. And being honest, Tribes of Midgard is an excellent game. It deserves the attention.
They been consistently giving out games that are either on EA Play or PS Now which completely devalues the free game component of PS Plus for those of us who faithfully use the other services. I think Sony and their partners for delivering these free games should consider not using stuff from PS Now whenever possible.
The Sept 18th event actually has nothing to do with the PS5 at all. This event will showcase three new Sony DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras that flaunt their new proprietary E-Mount system for these cameras which is something akin to Micro Four-Thirds or MFT for short. The E-Mount has sort of fizzled since first release and has heavily struggled with MFT as it has largely become the golden standard in digital photography. A newer E-Mount chipset with even more advanced lenses than MFT can provide Sony hopes will reinvigorate their mount system, and so we will see.
But no, nothing about the PS5 on the 18th. This is highly likely to mean that ALL currently unknown information regarding the PS5 will be revealed on the 16th. Guaranteed? No. Highly likely? Yes.
At least both editions of the PS5 actually have equal capabilities save for the 4K UHD blu-ray drive. Same specs. The Series S is worse than the One X. So why? It’s not even worth $200 to me much less $300. If I were ready to pay $300 for it I would GLADLY drop another $100 for the PS5 digital edition. Easily.
@OmegaStriver not to mention that it only plays 4K media and does NOT have 4K gaming. SSD is small and slow. No disc. The disadvantages make a long list for XSS. Is it even next gen? I don’t think so.
@__jamiie what I think is that you’re an idiot if you think I was referring to any of those businesses. They do have highly profitable ones that clearly you know nothing about. I worked in engineering fields that used a lot of the tech they sell and manufacture for other companies — this is where they make the most of their money. PlayStation does not carry Sony, in fact, Apple does — if you want the truth. Go dig into that. I’ll wait.
@JohnKarnes correction: They sent out invites to register for a chance to be selected to maybe get lucky and pre-order one if you can order it fast enough. It’s no where near an actual “invite to pre-order.”
@__jamiie I’m not sure Microsoft is any more capable than Sony of taking a hit this time during the pandemic considering as well. Sony is not just a console maker they have several other highly profitable industries and Microsoft has been in a bit of a downturn of late with theirs. I’d say they are both in a pretty equally bad position to take a substantial loss if either one succeeds in significantly undercutting the other. This is why they are BOTH playing chicken. If Microsoft were in a much better position to take a hit on the console as you say, they’d just announce the date and price already and not worry. Sadly, they’re in the same spot as Sony.
@Porkfiend I never thought of it like this! You make some great points. I don’t think other countries really like basing launch dates off of holidays they don’t even have. So changing it to Late 2020 makes sense to me now. Even if it is a staggered release, I predict it won’t be more than a week.
@SirAngry This. And that’s why I think the worlds of PC and console just don’t mix. PCs are used often for much more than just gaming, they are designed to handle more and also built for simultaneous multitasking threads. Consoles on the other hand are built for one thing only and that’s gaming. Yes you’ve got streaming apps, but it’s designed as a dedicated gaming machine. You don’t do spreadsheets on a PS5 🤣 And most PC gamers are attracted to them because of the heavy modding scene. Skyrim is a huge example, but most other PC games have proprietary modding like World of Warcraft and the lua modding, and some games have mod tools built by the player base themselves. Consoles just aren’t built for that. So it’s easy to understand why there is such a disparity between the two communities and why, in general, I think they just cannot be fairly compared. A dedicated machine that runs one thing well is always going to outperform a machine that can run other things. All of that hardware is spent on a singular task. If the expense doesn’t scare someone for a PC, then it comes down to what you want out of gaming.
@SirAngry I’m in agreement with you. PC has no bearing on the console market at all. They’re two separate things that really are not even trying to compete with each other. Sony’s sole competitor is Microsoft but only when it comes to consoles. PC gamers are in a different category and league altogether and there’s no comparison. I ditched my PC rig and let’s face it, if you don’t have a good existing rig — this graphics card won’t do much for you. Getting all the top end things you need is well over $1000-$1500. PC gamers and console gamers play for different reasons.
@SilkySmile89 I get what you’re saying but I really don’t believe, in my own opinion, that PCs and consoles are even in the same market. Why? Because graphics cards alone don’t give you what you need to play a game. Even with that amazing nVidia Card — PCs as good as if not better than a PS5 or XSX would be way expensive, definitely over $1000 maybe even $1500. My friend is constantly telling me he can get me a rig set up for $500, but in digging into the specs for it — $500 won’t get you near the PS5 in quality. So perhaps the master race has an advantage because they already have rigs they can upgrade. But a new person jumping into the PC gaming market with ease is just unrealistic. This is why consoles and PCs just need to stay separate entities in gaming. Consoles are plug and play and PCs are not. So it’s comparing, not apples and oranges, but apples and steak. Just can’t judge one by the other. So I’m not worried about this graphics card. The PC market continues to dwindle due to many factors and the main one being investment. PC attracts hardcore gamers but most gamers are not that. It’s easy for a noob to hook up the PS5 and get gaming right away. I used to be an avid PC gamer, it has lost its appeal over the years. It’s also been a good decision for my wallet.
@phil_j I disagree with smart delivery. Now, before you think I’m just another Sony fanboy (fangirl in this case) I’ll inform you that I’ve pretty much owned every console there is, and currently own a PS4 Pro, One X, Switch, and Stadia. I really don’t limit myself to one console because that just doesn’t allow me to experience everything I can no matter what it’s on. I think that being so hardcore that you become blind to facts makes it really hard to see the truth behind things like Smart Delivery. (Edit: I’m not claiming any of you are hardcore or blind, just FYI) In this case, here is what I came to realize about the Xbox Smart Delivery. The fact that all of their new titles will work on both the One X and Series X, makes it really hard for me to even justify buying a Series X at launch. Microsoft isn’t really giving me an enticing reason to upgrade right away. I’m just not sure that the first year or two of new games for either PS5 or Xbox Series X are going to push the limits right off the bat. Just like with last generation, it took a few years for developers to really get a taste for the true capability of the One and PS4. Looking back on launch titles for those, and then comparing them to titles right now — there are significant differences in quality. It’s because they learn as they go. So, maybe it makes sense to buy a Series X in a few years, especially when 8K becomes affordable — but right now? I can’t justify it. PS5 on the other hand has specific games made just for that and I don’t want to miss out on those so immediately it created a need for me to buy it at launch. I think Microsoft needs to step up here. They haven’t shown any gameplay demoed on the actual hardware yet. They’ve shown CGI that was studio-rendered, and they’ve shown some game footage that was actually just demoed in-engine on a high-powered PC. I need to see more, they just aren’t really crossing the bar (and it’s not a very high bar for me) to make me need a Series X NOW. Anyway, that’s my two cents.
