The PS Plus Essential games lineup for August has been announced, and as always, subscribers to Sony's base tier are getting access to three additional titles starting from next week. The question, though, is whether this month's trio will be better received than last month's rather disastrous combination. Over 50% of Push Square readers rated it "crap", for the record.
So what's in store for August? Well, honestly, we can see these games being pretty divisive as well. The headliner is obviously the very robust LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It's joined by the jump-scary Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, and highly rated Metroidvania Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights. It's a varied selection, at least!
How do you feel about August's PS Plus Essential games, then? Get voting in our polls, and then don't hesitate to give us an honest opinion in the comments section below.

My subscription ran out a few months back but after these games were announced I quickly didn't renew it
I like some metroidvanias, and haven't even heard of this one, but the other two, I am so very tired of Lego games and not interested in FNAF whatsoever. Although, of course, adults can enjoy these two latter titles, I feel it's rather poor to include two games out of three that were made with children in mind.
Not a good month, but I have cat quest 3 next week. Here's hoping extra and premium is good.
Time to catch up on the backlog
Endless lilies quietus of the knights for me to play.5 nights of freddys breach security looks interesting.word up son
I'd be a lot happier had I not picked up a copy of the Skywalker saga a couple of weeks ago...
I have wanted this Lego Star Wars for a while. With the character packs all on sale, I'll get everything the game offers for $7.50 instead of $20. So, yeah. I'm pleased with that.
It's those sorts of situations/savings that give me the best value out of PS+ these days.
Ender Lilies for me anyway. Been thinking about giving that a go for a few months now.
Nice timing adding it to Plus.
(Now I just need the time to actually play it.)
Bottom of the barrel this month
Sometimes PS+ feels like a shovelware subscription....
I genuinely don't understand the hate for this months selection.
This month is fine. Nothing I am excited about but a good selection. I wish PS would redo some of their polls to be less hyperbolic “it’s a crap selection” just encourages more entitlement and negativity that we just don’t need.
Already have The Skywalker Saga and Ender Lillies… and have no interest in FNaF. Oh well, maybe next month 🤷♂️
There's a certain Xbox Gold-energy about this offering. Critics will say that Xbox Gold featured even smaller games, but this tier is inching towards irrelevance/garbage.
I don't have a foot in the race, so this is not meant as a complaint, more of an observation.
@koffing nah, people that have no choice but to pay for it deserve to be entitled; nobody asked sony to gatekeep peoples internet in exchange for “free” games. If it was separate like it used to be on PS3 then the false entitlement could maybe hold some weight, but no.
every apologist favorite word being misused again .
Pretty hyped for ender lillies tbh.
They aren't bad. I will add to my account. They are there if I do want to play them, so long as I am on essential.
I used to be on Premium but have recently moved down to the lowest tier for the multiplayer and access to the games we have been given on PS+ since 2010. Many of which are not available on the higher tiers.
PS+ 'Premium' and 'Extra' catalogue games will always be there. No need to be subscribed to Premium or Extra for long periods. I wasn't playing many of the games on the premium tier for the 2 years I had it for.
People have been asking for more smaller/indie games on plus. When they get them the complain, shock
@Artois2 I don't remember asking for no damn small indie games, I want the bigger stuff that makes it feel slightly better coughing up $80 ($88 in my region) a year. Maybe you shouldn't take what two people say here and apply it to everyone.
I already have The Skywalker Saga and to be honest, it's very boring as you have no idea where you're headed most of the time.
It's not a patch on the PS2, PSP, Vita and PS3 LEGO Star Wars versions...
The general tought amongst the users here is pretty much clear, barrel sludge!!!
Ender lillies looks decent. I'll give it a go. No interest in the other two titles though.
I’m curious what the voters here would think would be a fantastic monthly lineup. If you’re wanting College Football 2025, Elden Ring, and Call of Duty, keep dreaming.
By the way, has anyone else noticed that Game Informer is closing down? Damn.
I'm quite excited for Skywalker Saga, as it means I won't have to take the disc out when I send the kids to bed so I can play Elden Ring.
Not a great month for me personally as I’ve already purchased Ender Lillies (but have yet to play it) and I’ve already played a bit of Lego Stars Wars on GamePass. Zero interest in FNaF
@soracloud28 It's hate for hate's sake, the same usual suspects every month with the typical tired 'glad I didn't renew PS Plus'-type comments.
My wife and I had a lot of fun with LEGO Star Wars. It's a pretty fun time, if you're a fan!
Have been hanging out for Lego Star Wars to come to PS Plus so quite happy.
We need to give JRPGs some love. The smaller studios could use the payout.
@jgrangervikings1 about a year ago, for a PS+ subscription that was costing around 20% less, you had access to the PS+ Collection. Basically masterpieces like GoW2018, FFXV, fallout 4, Days Gone, Resident Evil 7, Last Of Us, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4, what am I forgetting? Now you no longer have access to these games and get each month a pack of shovelware or pay2win EA/2k sport crap. So yeah, people are not happy and that's understandable.
I wont be renewing ps plus come next month. Such garbage
knack 2 would have been free for them and better.
Great month! Good job sony
Got Skywalker Saga when it came out, it’s probably my favourite Lego game
@B0udoir Just like all Essential games, if you claimed the titles in the PS+ Collection, you still have access to them.
Ender Lilies is a brilliant game that people are missing.
Money value - it does not make up for the other games
Game quality wise - it makes up for the last 3 months.
It's fantastic.
@koffing what do you mean by "entitlement"? You do realise that people pay money for this service?
Ender Lilies is a really great metroidvania with awesome music. I own it on Switch and will add it to my PlayStation catalog. The sequel is on Steam now with an early access release. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive at 98%. Don’t sleep on this series.
Zero interest in the others, but I've been waiting for a price drop on FNAF Security Breach, so I'm pleased as punch.
Removed - disrespecting others
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Almost_Ghostly we are talking about Essential here.
Removed - flaming/arguing
Been wanting to get that Lego game for some time actually, so this works for me.
@Almost_Ghostly You know that million of people bought a PS5 and joined PS+ after Sony removed Collection, right? You are blaming them for being late and expect they are happy to have miss dozen of masterpieces when the service was far better and less expensive?
Nothing really exciting or sexy, but that’s par for the course most months. It’s always a nice surprise when it’s something you’ve wanted to play and haven’t yet. It’s just that that list grows shorter every passing year.
Not for me but this is a good month for the dad gamers out there that need something to keep the kids busy with Lego and five nights which from my understanding seems to be like baby's first resident evil.
@B0udoir Yes. Because they could have claimed them prior to buying a PS5.
@Czar_Khastik I cancelled mine a few months ago and left for PC. I love when companies prove me right. What is Sony on to make this many bad decisions in such a short span of time?
I like this selection, none of them are games I would buy myself, but each is interesting on itself in its own right to at least try. I like to buy the bigger games on disk anyway
I dont care if they are “for kids” or not, these lego games need to have network multiplayer for 2024. Couch coop is rarely comfortable, and honestly just do a different activity with your friend/couch. Use computer desks and high end chairs and separate machines to game
